    Hi, I've watched all your instruction videos on bitcoins and they were really helpful for a newbie like me.
    I currently live in Canada and am planning to use Quadrigacx exchange.
    I am planning to purchase Ethereum and keep them for a long time so I am looking for a way to securely keep them.
    Through the search, I found out about the ledger nano s hardware wallet from your video and thought that it was just what I was looking for, a perfect, safe, long keeping wallet (thanks again).
    But now I have some questions for you, since you have used both the Quadrigacx and the ledger hardware wallet.
    1. Is ETH transfer from Quadriga cx to the ledger wallet spontaneous?
    2. Is there a transfer fee?
    3. In your video you use the copay wallet, is that because direct transfer from Quadrigacx to ledger wallet is not possible? (Almost same question as #1)
    4. If ledger website crashes (gets gone forever), will I still be able to use the wallet and the coins within the wallet?
    Im sorry Im bombarding you with questions, but please, your answers will help me out so much.
    Thanks!

      @BTCSessions  7 лет назад

      Hey Park, thank you so much for watching my videos. I'm really glad they've helped you out so far. I can definitely answer your questions here.
      1. As far as I know (at least the last time I checked) QuadrigaCX only sells bitcoin, and not ethereum. Because of this you'll have to use a service called shapeshift to change over your coins. The best way to do this is using either the Exodus wallet or Jaxx. I've got videos on both of them here:
      Exodus:
      ruclips.net/video/2sltZUm8hE4/видео.html
      Jaxx:
      ruclips.net/video/Wu7jsarwfa4/видео.html
      2. For every bitcoin or cryptocurrency transaction there will be a fee that goes to the miners (the ones maintaining and verifying transactions on the network). This fee can vary depending on how busy the network itself is. Right now a bitcoin transaction can sometimes be $0.50 or $1.00, whereas any ethereum transaction will be less than a few cents. Also keep in mind that Shapeshift is a service, so you'd be paying a fee to convert from BTC to ETH. I'm unsure how their fee structure works.
      3. You can directly transfer out of Quadriga into any wallet you like actually. I think I did that in the video just to show the transactions popping up on my phone, etc. Here's a video I made on basic sending/receiving across multiple platforms. Quadriga is at the end - but once you watch all the examples you should have a firm grasp how to do the same thing between any two platforms.
      ruclips.net/video/p-DhP6gN-9o/видео.html&t
      4. If the ledger website were to disappear, which I don't think will happen anytime soon, yes you would still be able to access your funds. Now unfortunately I think this would mean that your device would no longer work... or at least it would no longer get any updates/security fixes. However, as long as you held onto your seed words from setup, you could put that phrase into another compatible wallet - a mobile/desktop/hardware wallet with the same encryption would do the trick. If you message ledger they will let you know what other wallets are compatible with their backup seeds.
      Hopefully this information was all helpful!

      BTC Sessions Thanks so much for the kind reply!
      Quadrigacx did confirm via email and facebook official page that they do trade ETH/CAD as well.
      So direct transfer is not a problem between ledger hardware wallet and Quadriga cx exchange right?
      And is it common that there is a $1 service fee whether the exchange was with lots of money or small?
      Your videos and answers always clear all my answers
      I will share your channel with my friends that are interested in electronic currency!
      Thanks!

    • @BTCSessions
      @BTCSessions  7 лет назад

      Oh that's good to know! I guess they must have just added ETH recently. Direct transfer should be no problem, and the miner's fee should be minimal (maybe a few cents).
      The main fee you'll be paying in this case is when you load money onto the exchange. I think Quadriga charges a small percentage - around 1%-1.5% depending on your funding method.
      Thanks again for watching, I'm glad to hear that my content makes sense!

    That was awesome. I like the fact that you can wipe it clean and recover it; so keeping that passphrase is not on the Internet. That old school security is best. They need the Nano and the piece of paper or whatever to transfer funds... cold storage is the way to go! I am new to 'all of this' so you make it easy for someone who is Not a techie and being a Senior, it is not so easy to learn anymore. I just tried to order the Ledger Nano S and the reply said: 'they do not Ship to Toronto, Canada'! Can you tell which Hard wallet would be your second choice? Thx I also put the CoPay App on my phone and it came thru with USD and not CAD?

    Hi Ben, I like you videos they are very Informative. And thanks for sharing your experiences with Safe Hardware devices.
    I have a question when you say "The wallet generates a new public address every time." Does this mean should I check every time somewhere, whenever I'm giving my public address to any one.
    Like my gmail address is a public key. Does the public key works on same line here. Or do I need to share new Public key for every new transaction after checking it somewhere.
    Please advice.

    I have a question for those who use Ledger Nano S, I have sent all my Bitcoin from my coinbase wallet to my Nano S. I have yet to send Bitcoin from my ledger but I noticed that when determining the amount to be sent it must be measured in Bitcoin not in Dollar amount. With coinbase I can determine the exact Dollar amount I wish to send and it automatically converts it into the exact Bitcoin amount. Is there a setting on Ledger Nano S that allows be to determine amounts to send in Dollars not Bitcoin?.....Thanks for your help!

    Can I use this with any alt coin? And without sounding dumb, I know there are no physical coins, but if I took what I have on Binance, for example, and transferred to my nano, Binance should show balance of ZERO, and the nano will contain a key stating I have X amount of my alt coin? I hope that makes sense.

    I have my bitcoin stored on my Coinbase wallet, I don’t really have a huge amount of bitcoin at the moment however if was to buy a larger amount in the future would you recommend buying this Ledger Nano S and storing my bitcoin on there rather than the Coinbase wallet? And would it not cost me fees to keep sending bitcoin from my Coinbase wallet to this physical Ledger Nano S? That’s the main thing I’m concerned about (getting charged fees constantly every time I send the bitcoins to the physical hardware from Coinbase)
    Thanks :)

      honestly, the best and safest way to go about this is by investing in a company that will mine, trade and reinvest whatever crypto currencies you have for you. that's how i go about mine, all i do is to fund my wallet and after that i instruct the company to do whatever i want, either trading or mining and it will be handled by the company and when production is due and ready, i wait to cash out which will be sent directly to my wallet or local bank account. these done effortlessly, you can also go about yours the same way.

    Is it possible to use it for several people ?

      Thomas, Yes. That is correct. I usually (In my ledger nano), copy my receive address to my clipboard then on the exchange paste the address where they want me specify where to send. When you copy and paste always double check to confirm you've pasted the correct address. I usually take a second to check just the first few characters and the last few characters if its just small amounts of crypto.

    • @BTCSessions

      That's strange indeed. Where did you order your Nano S from?
      When you plug the device in, it will give you the option to recover a wallet or start a new one. When you start a new one, this would be different from any wallet that had been previously used by the device IF someone has used it before.
      That being said my only concern is that the device itself was tampered with. Knowing where it was ordered from might help me make a better judgement call though.

      Hi Thank you for your reply.I bought it on Ebay and it came from the UK..there was a card in the box which says "did you notice there is no anti-tampering sticker on this box." are the nano s sent out without stickers now do you think?

      Yes actually that is 100% the case. I do recall getting that with mine now that you say it.

    The nano ledger S doesn't charge fees to send and receive? Does the company recommend a exchange to use? Some are pretty sketchy. Coinbase seems legit.

    • @BTCSessions
      @BTCSessions  7 лет назад +1

      Mr. V when you send and recieve the only fee you ever pay is a miner fee, which is chosen by you and applies to the entire Bitcoin network. It doesn't go to Ledger (or the creator of any wallet that you use for the matter).
      Where you get your BTC can vary based on where you're from. Coinbase is a decent option if you're in the US. I would also check out Gemini. Just make sure you move your coins to your own wallet after you buy them.

    Hi Ben, while you have cryptos stored on these devices, do their values still fluctuate with the present market? If so, wouldn't you run out of room if your cryptos were going up? Thx.

    • @BTCSessions
      @BTCSessions  7 лет назад +2

      Hey David, yes the value would indeed still fluctuate. You can think of it as if you were to store a brick of gold somewhere. Even if you bury it in your backyard, the value of that gold can vary depending on supply & demand.
      As far as running out of room, that could never happen. Your device could store any amount of cryptocurrency. It wouldn't make a difference if you had $5 of BTC or $20 billion.

      Thanks Ben, appreciate your help. I just watched your video on paper wallets. Do I need to buy a separate computer just to create a paper wallet? I've got a nano s coming around june 23rd but would like to get some funds put into safety. Am I to assume that when these currencies are in a hard or paper wallet they can't be exchanged or day traded so to speak?

    Why are Nano S's sooooo expensive in Canada? Is there somewhere I'm not looking that sells them roughly the same price as in Europe? Amazon says $600+...that can't be right, considering they're €58!!! Help a brother out :)

    so cool the nano s,
    trezor is a bit more quick since you are not forced to put a pin if you dont want,
    also in case you want put a pin, there is a blind pad in the computer screen, so its "anti keylogger",
    Maybe at nano s they just though its much more safe to force people to put the pin everytime, takes 30 seconds and reduces posible complains on stupid people losing the device.
    i really liked the nano s! i would have put a 5 digit pin for extra safety, but i guess 3 out of 9999 must be enough, thats 0.03% success rate.
    An extra button for confirm rather than a combination would had been a nice implementation too, the simpler the better, always.

    Did I understand right 01:40 min? We'll be given a recovery phrase which is choosen by Ledger?

    • @BTCSessions
      @BTCSessions  7 лет назад +1

      The recovery phrase that you're given is randomly generated by the device and not pre-determined by the company. Also the key will never leave the device even when you sign transactions - the device is able to mathematically prove that it holds your private key without ever sending it to your phone or computer.

      Are you able to choose the 12 words or are you forced to accept 12 words that you're given by the device?

    • @BTCSessions
      @BTCSessions  7 лет назад +1

      With this site you are given the 12 words, though I believe there are ways to choose the phrase yourself via alternative means. The thing is that there is a set list of acceptable words based on the method through which you create your wallet. Also sometimes choosing your own words may be less secure/easier for an attacker to guess.

    And what's the difference to a normal USB stick? Also, do I have to sync the whole 100+ GB blockchain onto that, or how does this work?

    • @BTCSessions
      @BTCSessions  7 лет назад

      You technically could create a paper wallet via bitaddress.org, then encrypt it and put it on a thumb drive. I enjoy the convenience of this hardware - plug in and go. I can use it with my android phone as well, along with a good handful of compatible wallets. The thumb drive wouldn't be capable of that unless you essentially coded your own software.
      You don't have to sync the whole blockchain. Ledger hosts servers with full copies of the blockchain. The same would be true of KeepKey, Trezor, etc, as well as most light-weight mobile clients like Copay and Mycelium. You're relying on their copy of the blockchain. If you don't trust them you can always run a node at home and verify yourself - though it would take some technical know-how.

    So question. Everyone says sending bitcoin is so cheap and that is a benifit, but why is it so expensive for me? I have sent money from purse to coin base and on a 100 dollar transaction its liek 30 bucks! What is going on?

    • @BusyBeeLeds
      @BusyBeeLeds 6 лет назад

      Dont send from coin base send from GDAX. Oh a purse? like google wallet? Yikes yeah they probably dont have that set up so well yet.. go to your bank send a wire transfer cost 10$ and if you send it before 1130 am it will show up in coinbase later that evening. or you can send it through your bank the slower way sorry I for get the other name but it takes 4-5 days but it is free.
      When sending funds Gdax
      I believe it is 1.3% not 3% but even so 1.3% is still high i think for crypto.., paypal is 3% to receive and 5% to send out of the country, but you can send funds through paypal as friends/family for like 50 cent for around 1000 its how i send money to my factories in china to save the wire cost the bank charges me which is 50$ every time no matter the amount. Fucking banks have a license to steal..
