I found a listing on Ebay for two "tested - not working" N64 games and they came in today, *both* worked with a little bit of cleaning. And the seller sold them at a *steep* discount so I am rather happy.

4:11 The version that came with the Power Pad had that. Nintendo with the light gun came with Mario and Duck Hunt.

For most adhesives I found that Iodine-Benzine works wonders. It is used frequently in medical facilities around here to clean off residue left from from patches and plaster.

_"Are either of these games fake?"_
No. It's not unusual for another manufacturing run to be ordered for more copies. Also, Nintendo was very good about updates, including using the newer Nintendo seal of quality when it superseded the older seal in printed materials like manuals, labels, and boxes.
Although many NES games came from different publishers, Nintendo was virtually the only company who manufactured copies for their licensed 3rd parties as well as for themselves.

For the games that aren't working, you're giving up too easily.
For those games that are not starting up, try wiggling the game pak while it's still in the loaded position in the control deck. This causes the contacts to scrub and make a more positive connection with the pins.
The ZIF slot of the front loading NES isn't the most reliable. Chances are that those same games that wouldn't start in your tests may play perfectly fine with a little more effort or when used with a top loader NES.

Okay, I’ve seen a couple of these now, and I wanted to drop some feedback.
    - For tough stickers like the one on Mario Duck Hunt, use WD40 and not isopropyl. IPA dries to quickly to break down the glue. Spread WD40 into the area and leave for 5 mins, it will come away easily when wiped, clean off residue with an antibacterial wipe and paper towel
    - Throw that magic eraser in the bin, it’s time to take your training wheels off. Use WD40/IPA to remove marker pen, and damp antibacterial wipes to clean the rest of the cart
    - Stop using IPA as a cleaner, it’s abrasive and will wear the plastic for no reason. Antibacterial wipes are your friend here
    - For the contact pins, use a pencil eraser and IPA and they will come up gleaming
Please don’t harm any more carts with using the wrong tools for the wrong job , and I look forward to more content!

The problem with using WD40 is that most of us do not have the luxury to have the room ventilated since it is 1) Flammable and 2) Not good to breath in. Goo Gone is better at removing stickers and if there is marker on the cartridge it is never going to retail it's near mint condition anyways so I would opt to using IPA to remove it and a magic eraser.

@@andychamplin isopropyl is highly flammable and toxic, it’s neither here nor there which one you use

    • @andychamplin
      @andychamplin 21 час назад

@@Tiigsi_Retro IPA isn't harmful to breath in unless you are huffing it. While alcohol is flammable it is not as flammable as WD40. I've used WD40 to start a fire. Alcohol just burns until it is gone. WD40 has fumes that will burn along with the stuff itself. You are more likely to catch your house on fire with WD40 compared to IPA.

The US and Canada cartriges for NES games are slightly different. That may be the case with those Baseball games.

  • @KitDoctor

Someone correct me if I'm wrong since NES is not my forte, but I think you should be taking the game fully out and reinserting it instead of pushing down on it then, pushing it back - I don't think that changes anything with how the pins are making contact. I bet some of those games that showed the menu screens might work if they were just taken out and put back in.

I wish sellers would never put their annoying price tags over the actual face of the cartridge. There is plenty of room on the side or backs. Always ruin the cover art. I would also swap the back cover on that Mega Man game with one of the better ones.

Magic eraser is not low grit... it is high grit. the lower the number, the more abrasive it is. The higher the number the smoother it is and magic eraser is equal to about 4000 grit.
