Disappointed that you didn't mention HUMBLE PIE. Lead singer/guitarist Steve Marriott was considered on of the greatest voices in rock and was a huge influence on others who followed, From 1969-1974 they produced 8 studio and two live albums and filled arenas around the country with their kicka** sound of rock/soul/boogie and blues topped off with Marriotts amazing voice and charisma. Yet way too often when I mention their name, the response I often get is "Who"?.

Yes especially Badfinger. They made millions from their records (they did two US tours that I recall and all were sellouts) and yet their pockets were empty. Their manager and later Warner Bros Records who had them after Apple went defunct, stole all their money. The music is beautiful but the business side of it is ruthless and cut throat.

AI metions the Carpenters Song, "Close To You" also as "(They Long To Be) Close To You" on the very next sentence and treats them as if they are seperate songs LMFAO! Besides the song was written by BUrt Bacharach and Hal David and was first recorded by Richard Chamberlain and released as a single in 1963 as "They Long to Be Close to You" (without parentheses). However, while the single's other side, "Blue Guitar", became a hit, "They Long to Be Close to You" did not. So the Carpenters was a cover.

Why do these channels always include some of the most famous acts from the past in their lists of forgotten artists?. The Carpenters, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Fleetwood Mac have certainly not been forgotten. People who like rock music haven't forgotten King Crimson who regularly appear in polls for the best prog rock bands of all time, usually in the top five.
None of the bands on the list have been forgotten by the people who were around at the time, though granted some of the British bands might not have been so popular in the States as they were here in the UK, and requarly appear on radio stations that deal with the various musical genres from that era.

You could have done a lot better job trying to match the title of this clip. The Runaways is interesting and influential due to the presence of Joan Jett, and Lita Ford. They are certainly NOT forgotten. Neither is King Crimson. Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac is revered as great as opposed to the their pop version. The Green Manalishi, and Oh Well are very influential and covered. And I particularly love Station Man.
Not only did you spell Lynyrd Skynyrd incorrectly it's also pronounced incorrectly. Many of us from the 50s still play Free Bird, That Smell, and others which are rock anthems. Derek and the Dominos is a painful reminder that Cream disbanded due to Claptop saying they were getting too commercial, then his Derek and the Dominos created near pop music in a betrayal of his own (reportedly) words. Bad Motor Scooter is a very good song from Montrose.
Bands are often less than successful due to the producers that make their recordings. If a new group doesn't "pay their dues" they often never getr the high production values needed to succeed. Otherwise I agree that the rest of you list seem to be insignificant.

    • @Whoremembersusa

Thanks for your insights! You're right-The Runaways, King Crimson, and Fleetwood Mac certainly deserve recognition for their influence and legacy. Badfinger was destroyed by their greedy manager who got away with it scot free and lived to an old age. Some of these other groups had little success in the USA. Comparing Bad Finger with The Beatles was pure marketing. That is as ridiculous as comparing Icehouse's fine song Hey little girl with Roxy Music. Yes there is a very slight hint of and all that... But BF's compositions didn't even come close to the knees of the Beatles. And I don't give a toss if the Beatles themselves pretended that BF sounded like them. I've gone through their records, listened to every song. There is some good stuff out there, but nothing really outstanding, nothing with the 'it" quality of evergreens. Decent pop, interesting to know, not worthless, not spectacular, not progressive not reactionairy. Their downfall is sad, but that's not a reason to put them all of a sudden on a pedestal
