  • Hello everyone!
    Today, we're diving back into Factorio. In this second part we're planning out the shape and exoskeleton of the mega base including some rails, smelting and crafting modules. Hope you enjoy!:)
    Factorio is a game about building and creating automated factories to produce items of increasing complexity, within an infinite 2D world. Use your imagination to design your factory, combine simple elements into ingenious structures, and finally protect it from the creatures who don't really like you.

    Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories. You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. In the beginning you will find yourself chopping trees, mining ores and crafting mechanical arms and transport belts by hand, but in short time you can become an industrial powerhouse, with huge solar fields, oil refining and cracking, manufacture and deployment of construction and logistic robots, all for your resource needs. However this heavy exploitation of the planet's resources does not sit nicely with the locals, so you will have to be prepared to defend yourself and your machine empire.
    Join forces with other players in cooperative Multiplayer, create huge factories, collaborate and delegate tasks between you and your friends. Add mods to increase your enjoyment, from small tweak and helper mods to complete game overhauls, Factorio's ground-up Modding support has allowed content creators from around the world to design interesting and innovative features. While the core gameplay is in the form of the freeplay scenario, there are a range of interesting challenges in the form of Scenarios. If you don't find any maps or scenarios you enjoy, you can create your own with the in-game Map Editor, place down entities, enemies, and terrain in any way you like, and even add your own custom script to make for interesting gameplay.

      @@Nathans-Sandbox I meant for building solar panels/bases, although I admittedly I don't know you layout very well, so maybe it's not an issue, but you can massively slow down construction if your robots have to spend eight weeks shipping items across the map.
      On the other hand, I suppose you might only construct from your inventory, and have every cell with it's own network, so maybe my comment isn't relevant.
      Basically, robots (especially logistics ones) fall off rapidly when they have a large service area, or at least get hard to balance.

    At that point, Nilaus switched to LTN for his train network. For the way you are building, I think that TSM could be a better option; it works by having your trains dedicated to their product and immediately going to refill after emptying, then they go back and wait for a request.. LTN waits for a request before going to fill up, which at this scale can waste time, since you are doing full trains all the time anyway.

    • @grifferz
      @grifferz 2 года назад +2

      Don't need it any more with train limit in vanilla. In Nilaus's current "megabase in a book" series he just sets train limit based on amount of resources required, no more need for LTN or TSM.

    The rail signalling at 7:00 is a recipe for disaster. Don't chain rail every possible intersection for it will create conjunctions and many signals won't even function. I really prefer to keep trains from entering intersections if it is too busy. Better lose a bit of efficiency for a short period of time than lose all efficiency until you discover and manually fix a conjunction.

I like nuclear, it's cool and provides more than enough. Yes it polutes, but so does your factories! If biters become an issue before you can set up defenses, I would suggest "biters be gone" mod. Your intersections are really bad, trains going the same direction on parallell lanes can't continue when getting to one of those intersections. Not even trains going straight in different directions can pass each other. If you can't make it work with that many lanes you get more throughput if you remove lanes.
