  • Hello everyone!
    Today, we're diving back into Factorio. In this third part, we're implementing the first resources and science pack into our mass production city blocks. Hope you enjoy!:)
    Factorio is a game about building and creating automated factories to produce items of increasing complexity, within an infinite 2D world. Use your imagination to design your factory, combine simple elements into ingenious structures, and finally protect it from the creatures who don't really like you.

    Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories. You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. In the beginning you will find yourself chopping trees, mining ores and crafting mechanical arms and transport belts by hand, but in short time you can become an industrial powerhouse, with huge solar fields, oil refining and cracking, manufacture and deployment of construction and logistic robots, all for your resource needs. However this heavy exploitation of the planet's resources does not sit nicely with the locals, so you will have to be prepared to defend yourself and your machine empire.
    Join forces with other players in cooperative Multiplayer, create huge factories, collaborate and delegate tasks between you and your friends. Add mods to increase your enjoyment, from small tweak and helper mods to complete game overhauls, Factorio's ground-up Modding support has allowed content creators from around the world to design interesting and innovative features. While the core gameplay is in the form of the freeplay scenario, there are a range of interesting challenges in the form of Scenarios. If you don't find any maps or scenarios you enjoy, you can create your own with the in-game Map Editor, place down entities, enemies, and terrain in any way you like, and even add your own custom script to make for interesting gameplay.

    This series has the perfect balance between showing design details (especially love seeing you iterate on things like the rail design, as non-obvious issues crop up) and skipping ahead to see progress being made.

    Hey Nathan, just a comment on your train conditions. You want to remove the 5 second inactivity condition from the loading station. You never want a 1/2 full train leaving to a supply station. It just adds to congestion problems. That said the 5 seconds at the unloading station is a great thing to reduce resource bottlenecks.
    Loving the series. 😊

    Hey Nathan, this content is honestly awesome. I started playing factorio consistently a few weeks ago and I have just launched my first rocket! I'm looking to start developing a mega base now. Would you suggest trying to copy a design/idea from RUclips (like yours) or think of something new and innovative. I have little to no experience with mega bases so hopefully you can provide some insight 😁. Keep up the awesome content dude.

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  2 года назад +1

      This is my first mega base. I basically tried to understand the late game designs to then come up with my own solution. I wouldn't download blueprints, it takes the fun out of it (only speaking for myself).

  • @prebenthomassen9333

    Nice work Nathan! Consider making a holding cell for inactive trains, add a holdingcell stop to all train so excess trains wait there and not mess up the highway :)

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  2 года назад

      I tried the holding cell, they seem to skip a destination when it's closed and movw on to the next, resulting in them driving all the time. Any ideas?

    • @prebenthomassen9333
      @prebenthomassen9333 2 года назад

      @@Nathans-Sandbox not sure why they do that. They should follow the path of you stops. Like ore first, then holding cell, then smelter. So they should drive to a holding cell first, but the holding cell needs to be open ofc. Playing with it myself now so if I find a way ill let you now:)

    • @prebenthomassen9333
      @prebenthomassen9333 2 года назад

      @@Nathans-Sandbox yeah ofc. If a stop on the way is closed it is "removed" from the automation path of the trains, so you need enough holding cells for all trains that share a road. Like if you have 2 trains for getting the same ore

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  2 года назад

      They don't only skip the holding cell but also the other stations that aren't available, e.g. I had a train go empty to a delivery station becaise the loading area was closed.

    • @grifferz
      @grifferz 2 года назад

      @@Nathans-Sandbox Since I'm a week behind I appreciate you may have realised this already, but… Your issue is that you're turning your stations off, which removes them from the schedule of all trains. Instead of going unload-holding-load, they go holding-load forever. What you can do is set the train limit based on need, instead of setting enable/disable by need. When a load station has enough available to fill a train, set train limit to 1, so 1 train can come. Similarly when an unload station drops low enough to accept a full train load, set its limit to 1, so a train comes. At all other times trains will be stuck in holding station saying that the limit has been reached. Train limits were added because of this exact problem you're seeing. Well, that and "thundering herd" where all trains would wake up as soon as 1 unload station opens.

    Use icons for station names instead of words, makes locating them easier even in map view. Also use isolated roboport networks instead of one huge single network, use spidertrons for building.

    4:34 the outside route would be avoided, more because a train will avoid running *through* a train station, rather than cause its slightly longer, because pathing through a train station is equal to 2000 rails

    How much gameplay time is spent on a one-hour episode? I'm asking because these episodes make expanding look so easy and quick, and I always struggle with the fact that in my bases expanding becomes increasingly slower.

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  2 года назад

      Let's say I skip a lot of time to make those episodes more interesting. If you wanna go into mega base territory, you'll spend many hours on it. Don't be frustrated, watch a movie while things are slower. Generally though, there's always something to do;)

    I’m new to factorio. Been trying to learn the game through videos. But I’m confused if the launching the rocket is “beating the game” then why the mega base? What r u building towards next?

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  4 месяца назад

      After launching your first rocket, the game becomes incremental to the point until your PC can't handle it anymore. The goal is to produce as many materials as possible to do the infinite research in the end.

    How did you decide on the size of each module in the megabase? I'm pretty much a beginner but to me each module seems almost excessively large. Is it because of the solar panels or am I missing something?

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  2 года назад +1

      The modules need to be large for a lot of production lines. The module size is determined by the ability to place robot hubs evenly, so that they can cover everything.

  • @majstealth

    left-right-balancer, why not use the belt-solution? i do not yet see benefits of using half unerground belts for it

    • @Nathans-Sandbox
      @Nathans-Sandbox  2 года назад

      The difference is this is a balancer, so both sides of the belt will have even resources. If you just use splitters the distribution is only even if you always get full belts. So maybe in the case I've used it, it wouldn't have been necessary.
