    This press has worked like a charm for my projects ruclips.net/user/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with.This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

    A slightly larger table, with some tee-slots for proper work holding and you start to approach being a mini-mill. I actually see some real uses for that in a hobby shop. I also would have used a brass block, rather than the wooden block, for more rigidity.
    Oh yes, very nicely done.

    • @serengytech
      @serengytech  2 года назад +10

      Thanks. but it is not a wooden block. this is textolite. material impregnated with resin and compressed under pressure. very strong material.

    Very nice build, really well done! And that Phenolic for the headstock is an excellent choice, it's dimensionally stable, and very wear resistant. I use it a lot.
    And that's why this beauty deserves a better motor (there are some lovely speed controlled brushless motors with high torque at low rpm), a scale for the fine adjustment and a tiny drill vise.

    if I didn't see this vid on you building it, I would swear it was factory made, truly professional finish, especially the fine adjustment wheel/knob for the headstock, aside from the mirror polished finish on many of the parts. I also noticed the run out on your headstock and drill bit looks to be damn near zero..Dremel tools have really wild and bad runout.. the mark of a really well made drill press is the runout or how close to centered without wobble the bit rotates. your drill press is VERY accurate. like it can be used in a professional setting

      Hello, not My MiniCrafts but, quoting one of his other comments, its made out of "Textolite". He says "material impregnated with resin and compressed under pressure. very strong material."
      (Edit): After doing a little bit of research it turns out that textolite is another word for micarta/glass impregnated resin/fiberglass/compressed resin + wood. It can be made out of a variety of materials but is basically wood micarta. It looks like in the 70's they made countertops with it!

    Most excellent! That micro adjuster is brilliant. I very badly need a mini drill press like this, but the cheaper ones have horrific runout that makes then unusable for detail work. I don't have the machine tools necessary for this build, but I plan to design one up and test fit with 3D printed and off-the-shelf parts, then have the pieces cut by an online service for the final. I think if I design the individual parts to be easily and cheaply laser cut, I should be able to get it done on a budget.
