'Brushing teeth twice a day will prevent tooth decay.' Brushing = SUBJECT. Therefore, brushing is a gerund (noun) rather than a participle (adjective). Sorry for the mistake.

Awsome, Dave, as always: clear, terse and very useful.
There's just one and only one thing better than this: being Dave's private student.
I have been for almost three months and it is undeniably paying off.
    Trust me!

The last example of the "sequence" could be the example of "cause and effect "

@@maryam4851 Of course. And exercises. And Quizzes. I prefer to call them 'participle phrases'. And you even get my grammar book (free pdf) on the English language course. Both the grammar course and the language course have lessons on participles. Grammar is aimed at TEFL students. Language is aimed at natives and advanced TEFL students.

I think 'Wanting a coffee...'is not a Subordinate Clause it is a phrase .A clause as far as I know must have a finite verb.

    Hi again teacher Dave!
I know that subjects in two clauses must be agree.
    For instance;
Being selected for national team, he is happy.
I am puzzled about a sentence in the reading text which is
"He forgot the anniversary, making her very upset."
    But here
"He forgot the anniversary, so he made her very upset' seems to be not true .
I would be grateful if you could explain it to me.

Dear sir, I would like to understand a bit more about how to form a complex sentence using a past participle clause.
If we want to connect the following two sentences, which one (1 or 2) is more appropriate?
    A. Joe was tired of having cereal for breakfast every day.
    B. He had congee instead this morning.
    1. Tired of having porridge for breakfast every day, Joe had congee instead this morning.
    2. Being tired of having porridge for breakfast every day, Joe had congee instead this mornning.
Could you give me some advice?

This definition stresses on the totality of environment, implying that every organism including human beings has its own environment.
Sir, kindly tell me that the present participle " implying " modifies which word in the above sentence. Is it modifying " this definition " or " the totality of environment " or the whole main clause " This definition stresses on the totality of environment " ? Sir, please please help me.....
