Originally seen during Kellogg's syndicated sponsorship of "YOGI BEAR" (of which Snagglepuss was a regular feature) during the 1961-'62 season. And Kellogg's DID co-sponsor "WHAT'S MY LINE?" between 1958 and '65.
@rainstarflowerdroplets9624 Snagglepuss also was part of the cast of Yogi's Gang (which was spun off from the Saturday Superstar Movie Yogi's Ark Lark), was one of the announcers (with Mildew Wolf) on Laff-A-Lympics, and was part of the cast of Yogi's Treasure Hunt. All of these shows are currently on Boomerang, though sometimes only once or twice a week instead of every day. And Yogi's Ark Lark and Yogi and the Magical Flight of the Spruce Goose are sometimes shown on Boomerang Theater.
Inspired by a beautiful young lady with opera glasses based on Dorothy Kilgallen from Kellogg's Cocoa Krispies cereal commercial ''What My Lion?'', starring Snagglepuss,
Pretty good cartoon renderings of Dorothy Kilgallen, Martin Gabel and Bennett Cerf. But where’s the delightful star of stage and television, Miss Arlene Francis?
Kind of vapid insulting dialogue for Dorothy though, who was a brilliant intellectual. Although she was known for her writing about Hollywood, hence this dialogue I guess, she was murdered for what she'd uncovered in her Investigative journalism. (She also had by far the highest score for correct guesses after the fewest questions.) Yup, I'm old, but too young for this. Every WML show is on youtube. The charming dapper emcee had been an entrenched WWII battlefield war correspondant.
"Snagglepuss Voice by DAWS BUTLER" A result of the settlement reached between Kellogg's, Hanna-Barbera and Bert Lahr after Mr. Lahr had sued both companies over these ads when he thought that Snagglepuss's appearances would mislead viewers into thinking Lahr was involved in them.
@@ClassicTVMan1981X Wow. I had to look that one up. Looks like they weren’t the only ones he went after in court for using that vocal style. Everyone in this commercial, sans the announcer....it's Snagglepuss, not Snorkelpuss. You've seen him on TV before and now, he's got his own comic book from DC and is on Jellystone!.
"Are you a Detroit lion? A Dandelion? A 50 yard lion?" "Heavens to Murgatroyd! I'm a GAY lion! Can't you tell by my seemingly effeminate voice? Un-masculine, evennnnn!"
It was a joke. If you were of a certain age, you were in on the joke. It was not done to put down kids nor exault grownups. It was clever and a very good marketing tool. I'm sure it sold a lot of boxes of cereal.
@Josh McDowell I'm sorry I posted this comment. I didn't think as I was writing it, I got too emotionally involved, wasn't thinking about how it was just a comedy. I apologize to anyone I might have alienated or offended. I'll try as hard as I can to be a bit more sensible in the future with my comments.
Heavens to murgatroyd please bring back Snagglepuss! The one and only, true original even! 🤘😁🎤
@Yes Koncobo right
I haven’t seen this commercial in decades. Thanks for posting it. Exit, stage left!!😀
Snagglepuss, honey, you are most certainly a dandy lion!
Best comment.
Now THAT takes me back. If you can remember What's My Line on Sunday nights and Cocoa Krispies...then you are ..aged. 😉
"50 yard Lion!"😀😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣😂😂😁

Animation is tremendous also! Disney quality.
@@orfulmeany6890 that’s right
I love this
@@orfulmeany6890 I'm pretty sure Daws Butler had his own company for making these. So, yes. the animation was way better.
And what better way to plug "WHAT'S MY LINE"?" on a childen's show than to give it a gentle kidding with a cartoon lion?
Detroit Lion? Detroit Tiger? I'm from Michigan and always loved Snagglepuss! Great commercial.
He’s a spokesperson type of lion
His picture was on the Cocoa Krispies packages from 1961 through '66, and he appeared in virtually all of their commercials during that period.
exit, stage left
Thank you....Looking for that.
Other voices were Jean Vander Pyl and Don Messick.
