  • This review compares two top Khukri Houses in Nepal and their offering in micarta handled Kukris. The Kailash Blades and Khukuri House models bushcrafted and torture field tested here are the perfect blend of modern and traditional elements of Kukri design. I use and chop with them, to test points of failure or weaknesses. We laugh, we cry, and in the end we dance if the viewers hang around that long. You'll see other favorite Kukri's in this video like Himalayan Imports, and the Bud K. I have many other Kukri themed video art available right here on the best worst EDC Kukri channel on RUclips. Kukri’s are NOT designed to take the place of a proper axe. It’s easy to test. Put a razor sharp kukri under appropriate magnification before and after the abuse.

They're not designed to take the place of an axe because axes chop better and are way safer. Nothing about the knife should make the edge any different after chopping compared to an axe though. Have you tried this with your khukuri and has a blunt or rolled edge afterwards? Because I can tell you ours hold up fine

Hell yeah! Glad you like it and that it stood up to whatever the hell you were trying to do to that log.
Thanks so much for putting in the effort to make such a thorough and entertaining video.
I almost had a heart attack seeing you pop that point straight through the side of the sheath, it's such a common occurence that most khukuris ship with an infographic showing to hold it from underneath. They say a knife isn't truly yours until it bites you but khukuris tend to take ER requiring chomps rather than nibbles. One of many great reasons to go with a stacked leather or kydex sheath for a user.
You notice any difference in grip between the two handles? The resin and fabric we use to make our micarta makes it a bit more flexible and textured than mass produced stuff., though I'm unsure of khhi's source and it might be similar.
If anybody has any questions about our knives or khukuris/ nepal in general feel free to reach out and help as best I can.
    Take care,
Andrew and the team at Kailash Blades

I prefer the slightly tougher grip of the Kailash. A polished grip has its place- but I don’t think choppers and fixed blades are the best use for it. No problems with slippage.

I bought a heavy duty camera shoulder strap and made a baldrick by using a carabiner clip through the belt loop. I now hang the Kukri over my shoulder. I don't feel the weight at all now, and I even forget it's there, and because it's a baldrick it sits high up tight to the body (although you could hang it lower if desired). If you wrap the entire handle (including metal top and bottom) in camouflage hockey-stick tape right down to where the actual blade starts, you can create an amazing looking weapon (I personally don't like the original bling look) and it gives it a non-slip grip. I wrapped parts of the sheath in tape too (near the top and over the bottom metal protection bit) to give a really great coordinated military look. Combined with a lightweight Mora knife you have everything you need.

    • @kailashblades
      @kailashblades 3 года назад

      Hey there Jeremy!
A lot of the special utility that a khukuri is famous for comes from its size and its balance, which is why there's so few smaller options out there. For a blade that's capable of carving, surface work and camp tasks while still chopping nicely look into our Historical Service Issue.
      www.kailashblades.com/product/historical-service-issue/
It's popular with bushcrafters and as a camp knife due to its more compact size and versatility with handling regular knife kind of tasks. the 11.5" would be my suggestion but the 9.5" is very popular too.
      Take care,
Andrew and the team at Kailash

The song is about a Matador:
Your toast, I render it unto you
Sirs, sirs, for along with the soldiers
      Yes, the Toreadors can understand;
For pleasures, for pleasure they fight!
The arena is full, it is the feast day
The arena is full from top to bottom.
      The spectators, losing their heads,
The spectators begin a big fracas!
      Apostrophes, cries, and the uproar
      Grows into a furor!
Because it is a celebration of courage!
It is the celebration of people with heart!
Go! On guard! Go! Go! Ah!
      Chorus:
      Toreador, on guard! Toreador, Toreador!
And dream well, yes, dream of fighting
There is a pair of black eyes watching you,
      That await your love.
      Toreador, love awaits you!
      Toreador, on guard! Toreador, Toreador!
And dream well, yes, dream of fighting
There is a pair of black eyes watching you,
      That await your love.
      Toreador, love awaits you!
      Verse Two:
All at once, there is silence
      Ah, what has happened?
More cries, it is the moment!
More cries, it is the moment!
      The bull rushes out
      Bounding out of the Toril!
      He charges out! He enters.
      He strikes! A horse rolls,
      Dragging a Picador,
Ah! Bravo! Bull! The crowd shrieks!
      The bull goes, he comes,
      He comes and strikes again!
      Shaking his banderillos,
      Full of fury, he runs!
The arena is full of blood!
They save themselves, they pass the gates
It is your turn now. Go!
      On guard! Go! Go! Ah!
      Chorus:
      Toreador, on guard! Toreador, Toreador!
And dream well, yes, dream of fighting
There is a pair of black eyes watching you,
      That await your love.
      Toreador, love awaits you!
      Toreador, on guard! Toreador, Toreador!
And dream well, yes, dream of fighting
There is a pair of black eyes watching you,
      That await your love.
      Toreador, love awaits you!

I love khukris. I own I Tora Blades one as they make only authentic designs which includes true weights, balances, and blade geometry. On the other hand, I use parangs and golok machetes way more for yard chores and clearing out hunting areas then anything else. You really can't go wrong with a Condor parang or golok. They can take beatings and do the same amount of work as a khukri but cost is very affordable.

    • @hermanderaeymaecker4134

Tora is the way to go for the 'real' deal. My feeling is that the other Khukri houses as they call themselves are smart people tapping into the market. But once you compare their output to the traditional stuff, you will know... Not that it is all bad, it's different. They aim for the armchair survivalist to put it rudely. Guards, sawbacks, whatever they have it. When you start lookig at the more recent videos of the production, you'll notice the difference too. It's still all rather primitive, but cutting to shape and stock removal was something not really seen in the past. I'm no specialist on the matter but I have 1 Tora, 2 Khukri house and 2 different models from the Nepal Garisson find. And is there a difference.... a huge one actually.
