Thank you Mark Larkham for all of your professionalism and knowledge. There are only a handful of TV presenters GLOBALLY that can explain something very technical to the everyday viewer and have that viewer understand what is said. This sir, is YOU. I'm going to miss all the 'Larko-isims' in 2021 as will every other Supercars fan. A massive corporate failure for them to not include you in the 2021 coverage. ALL THE BEST LARKO ! & once again --------------------->THANK YOU
This man will be dearly missed by so many. Came back to this because it's truly one of his greats, among so many others! I wouldn't know anything about supercars without him 😭😭😭
I just did a trip to Sydney with the family, and came back via Bathurst. Tradition states that when anywhere near Bathurst, we do a lap of the Mount. As we pulled up to the start line for a lap of Mount Panorama, I pressed play on this RUclips video running through the car speakers at 100% - it was the most epic commentary and soundtrack as we went around the track with Mark Larkham as our audio tour guide - you could feel the emotion enveloping the car as we went around - incredible.
That is one of the best in your face talks on how to attack a race track I've hurd..the power in his voice demanded attention, his authority he portrayed sent a shiver down my spine. But what I saw in his eyes was nothing less than, than staring into the coal face, that stood the up hairs on the back of my neck.. Wow and drivers hats as they have to do that lap in lap out to win.. that's the cost of being a champion.. the cost of not listening, well the scap heap of failure and obscurity.
I'm from the UK and even though we are steeped in F1 history, have all the teams here and some of the best tracks in the world (as well as in Europe), I get so jealous of the Mt Panorama circuit and V8 Supercars, they are amazing and that track is epic!!!!!!
This is the best commentary and explanation of Australia's premium race I've ever seen. I'm 62 and I always remember watching this wonderful race with my father. Never knew all the stats and what the drivers had to do to get his car around just 1 lap. Stupendous I can't tell you how many times I've watched this piece of art. Love it!!!
Doesn't get any better than this. 10 years after the world witnessed the greatest sporting event ever to 'erupt'. As a Pomme who has been watching from afar for about 20 years, this is still the 'Holy Grail'. If i ever make it to The Mountain, please bury me at the "top of the hill" alongside the cases of VB that were buried that were never re-found. Like pretty much all racing series the world over & whilst I love the current V8s...it was 'better in my day'...
Every year, we come back to this. To get myself excited (like im not already), to feel just as confident and courageous as the drivers are. This video IS what its ALL about
An outstanding video, watch it all the time. Being in Canada I sacrifice my sleep to watch the week of bathurst but my god is it a great week of racing.
That's why it is THE GREAT RACE.....what really amazes me is through the week..its a normal 2 way road....we have some good tracks in the 🇬🇧...but this is utterly brilliant.......I'm also a huge TCM fan...and some of those can get to within 300kph down conrod.....love this presentation with larko....
If you're into podcasts check out Rustys Garage ep with Larko (Greg Rust hosts - he is a motorsports journo here, used to host F1 etc before throwing to the BBC or Sky feed). Anyway, Larko was his own manager, team owner, mechanic, merchandise manager, logistics manager, sales manager, sponsor promoter, engineer etc etc when he ran his own car in the early 2000s. I can't think of anyone since Brabham that could say the same.
What an absolutely brilliant piece of work.. Bathurst intros have always been the highlight for me, 7 did a great job with a few of them, and now 10 matched it if not bettered it with this
If you're a motorsport fan it's an amazing experience. You'll be surprised at how narrow the stretch over the top of the mountain looks at 60kph. Then as a mere mortal, you can only wonder what it looks like from inside a racecar at 200kph? TV can never accurately represent the drop in elevation through the esses and dipper. Be warned if you do drive the track, the 60kph speed limit is strictly enforced.
one of the only, Monaco is probably the only other one as brutal as Bathurst... maybe Macau as well, but over the top of the mountain would have to be one of the most brutal sections of any track on the planet.
Sims cannot compete with it in person, the altitude change plays havok on track temp off line. It's a beautiful track to drive but at the same time just the biggest headache on the planet.
i've driven the track a few times (just as a sightsee-er) and trust me..... you really DON'T understand how Mount Panorama really IS a "mountain" until you're there in person............. up mountain straight through Griffin's Bend, right up to mcPhilliamy Park and Skyline? It is just CRAZY elevation of 'up-hill' where you really feel the WEIGHT of the demands of this race....... and again when you're driving down through esses, the dipper, onto Conrod........ it's just INSANE how fast they navigate those steep descents..... if you're a Bathurst fan? I HIGHLY recommend finding any way you can to actually drive the track yourself.......... (it's open to the public if there's no events on) It'll blow your mind when you compare it to the speeds of Race Day. ;)
I thought I would be able to smash around the corners in my subi when I visited and yet I actually was holding onto my life at 40kph round the insane elevation changes. If it snowed there you could ski down!!
Not to mention how bloody tight it really is, the cameras will never do this track justice, we driven and walked it, once you do that the respect you have for the drivers grows ten fold
i was just checking out specs of the track........ turns out 'skyline' is 174 metres "UP" from pit-straight....... so if you wanted to look at Skyline at 'eye-level' from pit-straight? you'd need to be 174 metres in the air....... what an ABSOLUTE MONSTER climb this mountain truly is.... that's just insane for a 'race-track'.
