I live in Switzerland and we call it a Raclette machine not a fondue machine. Those for raclette just melt the cheese in the pan. You serve it with potatoes and the melted cheese slice slips of the small pan over the potatoes. Fondue pots are something different that one heats wine, cheese and perhaps kirsch to melt the cheese and then one can dip bread into the pot. :)
Good definition of the 2 / The difference is raclette you have your own plate and fondue is one pot for everybody (each one dives pieces of bread into the cheese pot)
Anytime I travel, I love to visit local supermarkets...whether in the states or abroad. Apart from being a foodie, I just love getting a better sense of the local community. Thanks for sharing such a variety of food stores in France, including Monoprix. You’re a woman after my own heart when it comes to food shopping, Diane! Besides picking up snacks or picnic treats, I love picking up a variety of their store brand cookies and whatnot to bring home as little presents for people whenever I am in Paris. I agree Monoprix is the closest French equivalent to Target. The last time I was there, I bought wine and an Alsatian wine glass. Oh and, Diane, those are cool Francophile shopping bags!
OMG! When you started explaining how the public toilet works, I was laughing at myself. Was in Paris in 2016 and needed to use a bathroom really really bad. Went into one just as someone exited, without looking at the lights at door. And yes, I was in there with the wash cycle too. Door opens, I go out and go right back in, door opens with my pants down! Will never forget that funny experience. BTW, those are cool Francophile shopping bags!!!

One of the most interesting things I do when I visit a new place is check out the supermarkets. I love your supermarket videos - It's good to hear how these French brands are pronounced as I see them also in my local stores. Thanks for always sharing a lot of information. I found 3 silk shirts on a discount rack in a Monoprix near the Bastille in Paris 5-6 years ago. I'm hard to fit on any day but these fit right off the rack. They're a different weave of silk that needs no ironing. Wash, don't wring just hang them up dripping wet and they dry in 30 mins without a wrinkle. At 20 euro each I still have all 3 and wear them regularly. Fantastic quality. Now, I always visit the Monoprix in every large French city I visit.

I'm impressed that the toilet cabañas appear to be plumbed into the city's water system (rather than being like porta-potties that need to be emptied periodically). That's so civilized. I wonder if that would work in the winter months of my colder climate. I love it that the French eat crêpes on Candlemas and two weeks later on Shrove Tuesday the British eat pancakes. Those are cool Francophile shopping bags in today’s post. In the 70s, when I lived with my aunt in Italy during a summer, she always had cloth string bags for shopping. It amazes me today that Americans just recently made reusable shopping bags a thing. Those do make great gifts and maybe a gift bag! Thanks again for the little trip around Paris.

Though I'm a Californian, all my closest relatives live in France and your vlogs really keep me in touch with their world while we are separated from one another by travel restrictions. French supermarkets are the best entertainment value on Earth. ( I could spend days in the Carrefour cheese section alone!) And Nantes is such a fascinating city. Can you do a story on La Cigale?

Aw, I studied abroad in Nantes in 1996-97 - the institute where I studied was on the rue des Cadeniers, though I also took some courses at the university as well. Such wonderful memories of riding the tram and spending time with friends at Place Graslin and going to the movie theater that was right down by the river... I lived on Beaulieu and mostly shopped at the Carrefour, but every now and again I would stop in at Monoprix. Those are cool Francophile shopping bags!

I went to a Monoprix a month ago and was so overwhelmed at all the fun stuff there that I didnt end up getting anything. Ugh. Ended up missing out on the awesome reusable bags of course as well. We are planning to go back next year and for sure will buy a bunch of clothes and stuff from Monoprix and other shops ❤️ Too bad I missed out on all your generous and fun giveaways! My boyfriend and I thought we were the only ones obsessed with overseas supermarkets until we started searching for RUclips videos on them. When we travel the first places we hit aren’t museums or famous landmarks but SUPERMARKETS!! As a souvenir, I ❤️ collecting reusable bags from various stores - Sainsbury’s, F&M, Harrod’s, Yata, etc. Finally made it to Paris in 2019 and picked up a bag from Carrefour but I didn’t see the ones when we frequented Monoprix!!! 😥 Those are cool Francophile shopping bags. I loved Monop before I moved to France and I still love it - the biggest selection of French products. I love their traitor counter for Champagne choucroute and the designer fashion collabs in Spring and Fall. Naturally I have their Eiffel tour bag among too many others. Years ago when a friend and I traveled through Europe we met two girls from Nantes. We followed them in their Citroen 2CV, I'm glad I could see something of where they came from. When I'm in France, it generally centers around being in Paris. I might be late but Those are cool Francophile shopping bags. No Trader Joes at my Aldi since there's a Trader Joes nearby.
During my month in Paris, I went there almost every other day. Half my tourism is based around supermarkets wherever I go. And the cool thing I didn't figure out until later: They deliver! So, I could do lots of buying of things that were not only numerous but heavy: Wine, water, etcetera...

I love Monoprix. When I was in Paris,, the hair dryer in the apartment t I stayed was not working. I bought a European hair dryer at Monoprix. And wine! And produce. Everything there was so pretty! Those are cool francophile shopping bags.

I did get grocery items like truffle salt and Savon de Marseille at Monoprix, but I also bought a couple of cashmere sweaters on a promo that are so cosy and that I still wear today.

My wife is the bag lady. We spend a lot of time in Montpellier, in L’Écusson. I don't know how many bags my wife has bought at Monoprix and Carrefour. They do make great , cheap gifts and definitely necessary in France.

Those are cool Francophile shopping bags. I love Monoprix! It's one of the stores I visited when I was on a study abroad trip a few years ago. I purchased a really cute sweater there and pillows that I use in my living room. A funny story, I almost got in trouble with the security at Monoprix. I wore the sweater I'd purchased a few days before at Monoprix in Lyon to another Monoprix in Paris. I didn't realize there was a security tag sewn in so I set off all the alarms when I entered. Security was on me quick. Thankfully, I was JUST competent enough in French to explain myself and they helped me out by removing the tag so it wouldn't happen again. lol.

Love the grocery, pharmacy and bakery vlogs! Those are cool Francophile shopping bags. I went to school in France in 1967, Grande Lycée Antibes and Ecole Normale d’Instituteur in Versailles. Not sure if either exist anymore. France gets in you for sure, lucky I was able to have the school/culture experience. Keep up the wonderful glimpses into everyday experiences.
