yep. thats why the Dragon Ball Z III: Ressen Jinzōningen has an interesting foreshadow of Cell second form. Because the game was released in aug 7 1992 and the episode with Cell first transformation was aired in 12 aug 1992 ;)
i remember there is a trick in this game where you can train Krillin to high lvl. involve half save game and reset the game before saving data finished.

I think it's just so making all the fights for fair and square. While in the SNES counterpart of these RPGs, you can bring these plus piccolo to namek if they survive from The saibamen, Nappa and vegeta.
In The Original Anime..They Are Indeed died..but in This Game..They Were Alive..and They were playable alongside Gohan and Krillin..later with Vegeta and finally..Goku
Everyone and their mother were trying to translate the Dragonball games back then. There are so many half finished and/or terrible translations from '98 through '01 or so, usually by people with barely any understanding of the Japanese language. This is just one of many.
Wait, why are Chiaotzu, Yamcha and Tien on the spaceship in the beginning? They were supposed to be dead on King Kai's Planet while Krillin, Gohan and Bulma went to Namek.
In the first game you can save them if Goku is fast enough. Plus the developers figured going with just Gohan and Krillin would be too hard. Anyway this runs on the Dragon Team saved timeline.
Came out before that game, in fact the prequel came out a year before that. But yes its kind of like taisen in the movement aspect, but so are games like fire emblem. the battle system is way different.
