Nice addition to the shop. Just to touch on your comment about cooling the unit down prior to storage. We use industrial leister brand hot air welders for single ply roofing. Its imperative the units be cooled down after each use to avoid damage to the internal heating element and circuitry. The elements are not hard to replace and do go bad after a few hundred hours but they are pricey and these guns run close to $550 each. I would recommend cooling if for no other reason than for safety. Nice gun 😉

Wanted to add my 10 cents here. This tool failed for me within about a year. Main PCB died. $150 USD to replace. I took it apart and found some design flaws. I suspect it failed due to voltage spikes from EMI during switching. Microcontroller was dead, while everything else worked. Microcontroller controls LCD and heat, so you get neither at that point.

I can smell heat shrink tubing from here through the innertubes. lol - I was going to order the contractors grade Dewalt heat gun. However, I wanted to upgrade to industrial grade, knowing it would last a hobbyist for the rest of my life. 600-hours is plenty lol. Great video!

Best heat gun I've used, also have the infrared thermometer which clips to the top.

0:57 Isn't that second photo with the IR thermometer clipped to the top? So I guess that it's possible to do that with this too.

@@Whigu Yes, it works really well, haven't tested the accuracy but I just use it to give an indication of if I need more or less heat. You can set a desired temperature and the LCD on the back will show the temperature reading and change colour, blue for under, green for correct and red for over. There is also an audible alarm which can be disabled.

Running the tool on lowest heat until the temp drops is more of a safety precaution. The chance of burning yourself on a noisy tool is much lower than one thats been switched off, or unplugged, leaving no way to tell if its still hot (LED on this is nice, but its just a small LED). It would have been a good feature, but then the first switch position would not be able to cut power to the circuit. Most electronics hot air guns do this.

Be aware! Same defect microcontroller as the other person mentioned. No replacement from Steinel, they do not care about customers. Would not reccommend to buy at all.
