Summary of the Summary
In Macbeth Act 1, three mysterious witches meet in the Scottish countryside. They say they are going to meet someone named Macbeth after a battle is over. Macbeth is a brave thane (like a general) in the Scottish army. He kills an important enemy who is causing problems in the west of Scotland and then he goes on to fight against an invasion on the eastern coast of Scotland.
After the battles, Macbeth and his thane buddy, Banquo, start the long horse ride back to King Duncan's castle.
The three witches stop Macbeth and Banquo in the countryside and tell them 3 prophecies (things that will happen in the future). Macbeth is called "Thane of Cawdor" (not his current name) and is told that he will be king. Banquo is told that he will not be king but his children will become kings. The witches vanish. Just then, riders show up and tell Macbeth that he has been given the name of "Thane of Cawdor" by King Duncan due to his amazing fighting skills. Macbeth and Banquo return to the king. They both are thinking about the witches' prophecies. Are they true? Are they tricks? Macbeth writes a letter to his wife, Lady Macbeth. He tells her what the witches said.
Macbeth thinks that maybe King Duncan will choose him to be the next king. But King Duncan names Malcolm, the king's son, to be the next King of Scotland.
King Duncan also announces that he will visit the Macbeth's castle starting that evening. Macbeth rides to his home to let his wife, Lady Macbeth, know that the king and other thanes will be arriving shortly.
Lady Macbeth wants Macbeth to kill King Duncan that night as he sleeps in their castle. Macbeth doesn't think that's a very good idea, but he agrees to the murderous plan.

Appreciate it, Yusuf.
It’s just that sparknotes is a bit more general and talks about the outline and base story. She just says it more in-depth

OH MY GOODNESS, YOU ARE A GOD SEND!!!! Thank you! I'm 16 and a sophomore in high school. This was super helpful and informative. It's one thing to read the language of shakespeare, but another to try to understand and enjoy that plot. You make classic literature fun and easy to understand. I appreciate it!

I very rarely comment on videos. This summary is amazing.
Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Glad that my videos were helpful!
My daughter was super frustrated trying to read Macbeth with language footnotes. Then she watched your videos. Her stress melted away and she was able to feel much more confident with the plot. Thanks for making these. You transformed this whole evening from high stress to "I got this now."
Thanks so much for leaving a comment Tom Johnson! You made my day! I am so glad that your daughter has a feeling of success instead of stress. Shakespeare was a remarkable playwright and I hope that students can appreciate his skill and think deeply about the issues he raises in his plays.
Those illustrations must've taken a long time! I appreciate your effort to make these videos; they help a lot!
So glad found this cause I have a test tomorrow and this is gonna help greatly

I try to respond to everyone @y6vni Studying something that many students find challenging can be really frustrating. I admire anyone who looks for additional resources to help them understand the material. Thanks for your comment and have a great day!
You delivered the most important things about act 1 in a short, funny and informative way. Thank you so much!
Thank You so much for this amazing interpretation of Macbeth. I loved it! It clearly explained the reason behind the language Shakespeare had used. Will help me in annotating and tests. Thanks once again. Cheers!

Amazing summary! My friend watched these videos in prep to performing his 1st Shakespeare play and his performance was amazing! He said your videos were instrumental in gaining a clear understanding of the play and speeches (and helped my comprehension while watching the play). Thank You!!!!
That's wonderful! +Aimee Pavy! Please tell your friend that I am so happy. In fact, I wish I could see the play! To think I helped an actor is the greatest. Hats off to anyone who has to learn all these lines - even though Macbeth is the shortest tragedy. thanks for letting me know.
@@EnglishPsychoTeacher Passing your note on now! Thanks again for your amazing work!!
You have added cartoons and special effects to the profound mystery of the play.Your voice, coinage of words and presentation are commendable.Thank you.

Thank you much! I do online school and they suck at explaining and analyzing things. This helped me a lot
These are super helpful, would honestly love to see similar breakdowns of other Shakespearean works
Just came back to say I got 80% for this section in my exam. Thank you!
reading other summaries then watching this is so much more helpful, so glad i found this!
I have a paper on this tomorrow and am 16 kinds of screwed. So thanks for this :) I may actually do okay
I wish there where other Shakespeare works such as Hamlet and twelfth night already done like this. This is one of the most helpful video's Ive seen and its really easy to understand. Thank you for your hard work I'll be sure to check for new videos from this channel even when i'm no longer studying Shakespeare, because your take on the work is so interesting.
That's a great comment B Monti. Thank you very much.
This one is the best explanation of macbeth on utube....
This is fantastic! I have an entire project on Macbeth and this is really helpful!
THE Musics near 6:24 is amazing, fits the shock they had in the play.
This was really helpful, it helped me really understand what was happening in the story!
THE QUESTION FOR THE HORSE SPUR CAME OUT IN MY EXAM AND I KNEW HOW TO DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! :)
So glad to hear that! The horse spur is a bit complicated to understand. I'd never really drawn a horse before and I think it turned out okay, too!
your videos are so clear and straight to the point. i learned more here than I did sitting in a 3 hour lecture. thank you so much!
Glad to hear it, Mahreen Tanveer. Good luck with your studies.
This channel is a gold mine! Thankyou for putting these up! Hope you'd make more!
I'm really thankful of this it really helping me a lot since I find the Shakespearean language hard , it's really helpful . We only starting to read the book tomorrow ( at school)I know Act 1 already haha how crazy . Thank you
This has helped so much with my students comprehension of MacBeth !
Produced in a manner where anybody could understand. Although I'm in 10th grade, this will surely help remind me of some of the basic backbones to each act. Thank you!
Thank you so much for making this! I'm studying Macbeth & this video really helped shed light on the story. Thank yuo!

thank you so much, my teacher never really explained this to my class and this helps a lot, thank you.
thank you sooo much for this!! I am definitely a better visual learner so this really helped😊😊😊
love these videos , thank you so much .Really helped me during my exam 💛💛💛😉😉😃😃
this helps my understanding so much thank you. I didn’t understand Shakespeare before this...
You really carried me with the previous year when I was doing Macbeth. I learnt so much from you so I'm grateful for that❤. Now at school we are busy with Hamlet😢, it's sad to see that you don't have videos of him too. Please consider making videos explaining Hamlet, it could help a whole lot of students.
Thanks for getting in touch. Glad my videos were helpful to you last year. For Hamlet, I recommend the movie from 1996 starring and directed by Kenneth Branagh to understand the narrative. To understand the soliloquies (Hamlet's long speeches) there is a good website owlcation.com if you search for Hamlet soliloquies there, that will also help your understanding. Good luck, Qawe Mooi!
very helpful. i used this as a review for my exam i have tomorrow, thank you!

I prefer suchlike explanatory notes required for the other plays that are found in english literature
This was amazing! My exam starts in a few hours and I'm completely confident I'll do well now! I was hoping to find Oliver Twist somewhere here as well, but turns out you've only made this series.. I really hope you do make more though!

I liked the animations you used, it helped me understand things more clearly then just words and you spoke slowly so that was easy for me to understand since I dont understand when people speak fast sometimes. Thank You! 🌟🎇

Very intersting. The weird sisters overshadowed Mcbeth 's destiny .
The laughing at the end scared me 😂
I loved how well you explained the horse analogy of ambition.
Thanks, Tharusha Carvani Naidoo. I spent a lot of time figuring out the best way to break it down.
