    Probably the most informative bloke in the game. I'd die to get my hands on one of your Z-wrecks or a DB4's but sadly there's no Australian dealers & with the exchange rate the way it is slightly out of my price range.
    Keep up the good work Mike..🤘🤘

    I just got the Maz 18 mkII jr nr 1x12. Wow! I used it for one rehearsal and one gig so far and i couldn't be happier. I cranked the volume all the way and had the master at about 11:00. I used my guitar volume (strat) to go from clean, to light break up, to rock without any pedals. It's so dynamic with your pic attack. I guess if i had to gripe it would be that for that price it should come with a cover. Also it didn't come with a cable for the EQ bypass. That being said, my friend's and bandmates said that was the best I've ever sounded. It also helped me play better. I was getting some really cool feedback when i wanted to. I was smiling ear to ear. What a great amp!!! I got it from Chicago music exchange because they had the color I wanted. They shipped it super fast in perfect condition.

    Oh man, when you mentioned envelope issues for some of your tubes from a certain manufacturer, my ears perked up. I worked many years solving envelope issues in short arc lamps, and most problems with an envelope is stress. The stress was caused when material is added after the glass has cooled below the temperature that the new glass melts at. However, this problem can be fixed by reheating the entire envelope to a uniform temperature. We used a polariscope to see this stress in the glass, and we could literally see where the operations to build the envelope, were performed properly, or not.

    I imported a batch of them for my repair parts closet. If I read the date code correctly, they were made in 1990........these were made for many years, and the supply was good.

    Watching this video reminded me of a weird pair of tubes I've had for years. Don't remember where I got them, but they were in my box of EL84's.. So I pulled them out and what do know, a NOS pair of 6n14n tubes with the flying sauser getters! COOL! I never knew exactly what they were until now.. Going to put them in my amp and see how it goes!

    We were always taught that the getter has no function whatsoever in a tube's operation, and that it's only there to assist in evacuation of the tube when it's manufactured. It helps to remove the last bit of the active gases within the envelope and maintain a more perfect vacuum.

    Dear Dr Z, as others commented before, these Russian tubes are tagged in cyrillic. They are 6P14P. Others are 6P14P-V, 6P14P-EV and 6P14P-ER.

      And as we have commented before, we know, the fact is that our customers don't or they don't care, and then we get questions like "why does my amp have 6N14N power tubes, not 6P14P" over and over again, at a rate much higher than we get people "correcting" us :-)

    Hey, Dr. Z,
    I recently acquired your MAZ18 Junior NR head and just used it on a gig for the first time and just loved it!
    I’ve had quite bit of boutique amps in the past and I love your MAZ18 better than any other amps I’ve ever owned or gigged with. Thanks for creating such great amps!
    So, I just watched your video and made me curious about my MAZ18 so I opened up the back of my MAZ18 and found that mine has el84 instead of 6n14n and even the tube layout sticker inside shows el84 as power tube. My MAZ18 sounds fantastic but I wanted to ask to see if I should switch power tubes to matching 6n14n.
    Do you think I should? I’ve read some comments saying switching them to 6n14n smooth out the top end somewhat.
    I’m very curious to see what you would recommend.
    Thank you in advance for your input!

    I use these in my modded Blues Jr and LOVE them. I have a set of the standard (no suffix), and a pair of the -EB... Both are great. One of the more affordable NOS EL84-style tubes out there right now. Get em while you still can, they'll probably be flying off some of the bigger supplier's shelves after this video.

    Hi Doc,
    Would you be able to tell me exactly what tubes I need to re tube my Z-Wreck?
    So the non halo version of the 16n14n's for the output of the amp? And what rectifier and pre amp tubes?
    Thanks!

    • @DrZAmplification
      @DrZAmplification  2 года назад +2

      6n14n, or 6n14n-k. those are power/output tubes. they will have a flying saucer getter, not a halo getter. the halo getter is on 6n14n-EV or EB.
      Preamps are Tung Sol 12ax7 and the rectifier is a Sovtek 5AR4.

    Hey Guys has anyone compared the 6p14p-ev or eb compared to the normal 6p14p. My 6p14p's in my new maz did not last that long for some reason (demo amp from shop I think) so I am in the market while they are still available. Z says the standard 6p14p is the best sounding is this the consensus? The ev's sure as hell sound kill in the mid range on other amps makes them more pronounced and defined.

    • @DrZAmplification

      They are not. Some EHX EL84 will be designated EL86-M, meaning they are the old NOS 6p14p-EV or EB tubes rebranded. Those are reliable tubes but sound different than the standard 6p14p/6n14n due to different plate structure and getter.

    • @RockDrillSuite
      @RockDrillSuite 4 года назад +1

      The tubes aren’t “pushing” high plate voltages, they’re able to accept or run on higher plate voltages. The transformer steps up the voltage and the rectifier circuit converts it to DC voltages for the plates. The tubes themselves do not create plate voltages. And, they “amplify” the input signal based on electron flow between the cathode and plate.

    • @samroney6644
      @samroney6644 3 года назад +1

      @@RockDrillSuite Thanks for the auto-correct, but pretty sure he was talking about his Traynor amps, as "pushing" plate voltage- not the tubes. Strictly speaking, grammar dictates that "those" should reference the most immediate noun.
