Her jokes were pure shit. One of her first ones was literally "I'm a mother". Haha! She got naked inappropriately! She made shit-ass accent jokes. She literally didn't make one original joke at all.
The sex drive one was funny. I think comedians should stay away from Trump jokes if they want to be considered original. Everybody and their mother are doing those. Low-hanging fruit.
I looked her up to see if I'd forgotten her character from How I Met Your Mother. She played 'Female Gate Agent'. Bit of a misleading sell there, Colbert.
Well, she's had a minor one-off character in quite a few big sitcoms/tv shows... so you pick one (or she requests one) to help get the audience's attention. Name recognition is a big thing.
I have a very intelligent dictionary....it knows all the words, but it didn't laugh ...I think it's the way she's b r i n g i n g (you understand I am telling a joke) t h e j o k e s (this.. was the jo ke...y ou get iit?) s o s l o w l y then she waited 5 minutes so you can read the subtitles again.... The problem is that she takes so much time that when she arrives at the end of her sentences, we've been doing some shopping, cooking, reading a book ...and yes...we forgot with what she started.
ybor20 yeah, delivery is also important. Just because you understand the meaning behind the words doesn't mean it's funny. If it were that easy, everybody would be a comedian.
When critisizing comedians it's important to remember the difference between "unfunny" and "unrelatable". Sure, Mrs. Gallagher's set bored me immensely, but as a 30 year old lifelong bachelor and certified neckbeard living in his mom's basement, I just couldn't relate to a word she said. Maybe she's funny, maybe she's not, I just don't feel qualified to make that call.
As a 24 year old certified neckbeard living in parents' basement I could relate to many of those and they were so great. So great. I think though, that people with different levels of empathy tend to relate to jokes that talk about something they haven't experienced more or less. But you're right, her jokes are objectively funny.
Her bits were good. Nice setups and the delivery always paid off. She seemed a bit stiff on stage but I understand taking it slow so that the audience has time to actually understand what you are talking about. Very well done!
"The Secretary of the Interior, it sounds like an Interior Decorator. Could you imagine an interior decorator as a dam inspector?. 'Oh this wall has to go. More windows, more windows, let in the light'." My fav Gallagher joke. LOL
I kinda want to go through 4+ years of med school, become an optometrist, and work until I find someone with 20/20 vision, just so I can tell them that their eyesight is "optimal". Then I would put on sunglasses while the CSI theme plays and walk out of the office.
ChadaMonkey i appreciated that pun. Your work doesn't go without notice, but is 20/20 the best? Isn't there a more desirable value.. 20/40? Idk, ive heard things, but am to lazy to research rn. Btw... i cant be the only one to point out that she was not very funny... Aren't there better comedians out there? I feel like everyone is treating her nicely because of her looks. But hey, maybe im wrong... doubt it though. I've never been wrong before... Opinions..?
Dude, most of these stand-ups are just cringy, not even funny. Also, 20/20 is what is considered normal, 20/40 isn't as good, but still able to pass a driver's test. 20/15 is better, but 20/20 is optimal. Not the best, but optimal.
That's not great, but decent, clean jokes more suitable for certain audiences that's a good thing. Just looked her up, she is 50 yo, a rather pretty woman, decent comedian, should have more success, I have to ask the same question again, Why Amy Schumer?
can one episode of How I Met Your Mother 5 years ago with a single line and 20 seconds of screen time (if you include wide shots) constitutes "You've seen on How I Met Your Mother" then again.. very funny seemed like a over statement as well. (also if her husband is 42.. IMDB either has her age wrong or she likes much younger guys)
Good jokes, great delivery, very comfortable on stage, all while meeting the rigid standards & practices thrown at standups on this show (Seriously, CBS, loosen up a little). I give it an A. Bravo!
She must have come up with the sex drive joke in 2005 because 500GB is a joke for an HDD now. I know I'm being a dick, but jokes that are factually accurate are funnier, this is why the show Silicon Valley works. Just change two words, say he has a 10TB HDD that holds all of his 4K porn, would be much funnier.
energy ....good you did like it but for me it was like for an audience 85+ ...so incredible slow...every time waiting till everybody had time for a coffee I prefer the power and the speed of Samanta Bee or the humour of Betty Bowers,
I gotcha, I don't mind the slowness but to be fair I don't have a taste in stand up comedy developed. For me a stand up comedian is either "funny" or "not funny" and she was in the former. And wow I can't believe I forgot about Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian. She's awesome
somehow the amount of good stand up comedian's among women is limited while they do have Claire Goll....is "written" stand-up ..one should read her autobiography " La Poursuite du vent (Ich verzeihe keinem. Eine literarische Chronique scandaleuse unserer Zeit, 1976)." The pursuit of the wind, I do not forgive anyone; A literary chronique scandaleuse of our time, 1976....... The way she describes all world famous artists, authors and so on...she had more relations than Trump ever will have (paid & unpaid), Michelle Wolf's descriptions are so sweet compared with the pen of Claire Goll...but Goll was not only sharp and to the point, she could also write incredible beautiful about man she respected...
Haha, like i care about the opinion of someone with provably bad taste... Also my taste in music is the best you'll find, due to its range and quality. You wouldn't stand 5 shuffled songs of my MP3 playlist due to its diversity of language and styles (if you're American that's not surprising). It would blow your small mind.
Not American and you still have crap taste. Gotta good look at your playlist sunshine. Go ahead, blow my mind, I dare you. And, btw, you do seem to care about my opines as you have commented on my thread. Do keep up.
"care", "bored"... "potato", "potato" .. you have no horn to toot my friend, but then perception is reality so you do you... oh and australia > usa so... lol?
She's Tilly from FRIENDS!!!
Pretty funny. Some jokes were better than others. But she did well with the audience with her relaxed unforced delivery.
Her jokes were pure shit. One of her first ones was literally "I'm a mother". Haha! She got naked inappropriately! She made shit-ass accent jokes. She literally didn't make one original joke at all.
Yeah, like leading with ‘girl next door’ into ‘neigbours, chuck’ was lazy, stand-up writing-wise. :)
The sex drive one was funny. I think comedians should stay away from Trump jokes if they want to be considered original. Everybody and their mother are doing those. Low-hanging fruit.
Honestly I completely agree, Steven should go to any amateur standup club in london and get someone with real talent to performs
totally agree
I looked her up to see if I'd forgotten her character from How I Met Your Mother. She played 'Female Gate Agent'. Bit of a misleading sell there, Colbert.
Yeah, I had to look it up too. Did you see the rest of her work? I guess she has a Day Job.
Well, she's had a minor one-off character in quite a few big sitcoms/tv shows... so you pick one (or she requests one) to help get the audience's attention.
Name recognition is a big thing.
he did say you _might_ recognize her...
Tom Morgan for real!! Loved that show... watched it thru twice... no idea who she was... hah
it's like saying she's known for 'friends' that one time she appeared for a sec on an episode 22 yrs ago lol
"Now I think she might win." Now that's funny.
Good, clean Mom jokes XD
Liked her stuff, found myself laughing out loud quite a bit
I can see her as a fulltime stand-up comedian.
Superstar! - *Mary Katherine Gallagher*
Fran Tura first thing I thought of
It’s ok. Not my type of humor. But she got a consistent flow and nice energy. 👏👏
Dad jokes told by a mom. A lot of these were groan-worthy, but the 500 gig "sex drive" did make me chuckle.
The netflix standup with Ali Wong
had reeeeally funny mom jokes too :)
Most of the audience didn't know what an optometrist is.
I think the joke just flew over their heads
I just don't think the audience is very intelligent.
They knew. It's just a super predictable joke.
I have a very intelligent dictionary....it knows all the words, but it didn't laugh ...I think it's the way she's b r i n g i n g (you understand I am telling a joke) t h e j o k e s (this.. was the jo ke...y ou get iit?) s o s l o w l y
then she waited 5 minutes so you can read the subtitles again....

#toometa
Someone living in their mum's basement should have the best imagination and be perfectly qualified to make that call...
as a parent of two children who in theory can relate to most of it, I can tell you she's boring for everyone.
Nah, she's just not funny. If she were, you would be laughing and not analyzing why you're not laughing.
A clean, funny, talented, kind, FEMALE comedian???? This is the best day of my young life
Lot's of funny ladies lately. Love it
Her bits were good. Nice setups and the delivery always paid off. She seemed a bit stiff on stage but I understand taking it slow so that the audience has time to actually understand what you are talking about. Very well done!
She felt nervous to us, but both my mother and I liked the set. If she gets a rhythm down she'll hang with the greats.
Very few female comedians are any good. She is not bad. Much giggle. Ty.
these comedians is the only thing that keep, ''Stephen cough burp's'' show alive
Nice and clean 👌🏾
She is good Colbert ! Really really good. ! I want to see her again.
I have a neighbor named Chuck. At least he doesn't venture outside partially dressed.
Thats just straight up classic funny comedy
That Mary joke at the very beginning was pure gold. I haven't laughed so hard in weeks.
atarileaf you need more entertainment in your life if that’s the case
LOL you're probably right
This would have been incredibly difficult after the news today. Kudos to her, she did a great job.
Don’t quit your day job... I didn’t even smile.
She IS the girl next door! So down home and cute!
Awww I was expecting a mallet and watermellon.
"The Secretary of the Interior, it sounds like an Interior Decorator. Could you imagine an interior decorator as a dam inspector?. 'Oh this wall has to go. More windows, more windows, let in the light'." My fav Gallagher joke. LOL
yeah she should have followed in his footsteps i think
I was expecting someone who was funny.
Mom jokes are way better than dad jokes, obviously.
I kinda want to go through 4+ years of med school, become an optometrist, and work until I find someone with 20/20 vision, just so I can tell them that their eyesight is "optimal". Then I would put on sunglasses while the CSI theme plays and walk out of the office.
rosebuds not an oversight I'm just that much of an over achiever, especially when it comes to jokes. I mean, just look at that pun :D
ChadaMonkey i appreciated that pun. Your work doesn't go without notice, but is 20/20 the best? Isn't there a more desirable value.. 20/40? Idk, ive heard things, but am to lazy to research rn.

ChadaMonkey I
ChadaMonkey thank you for the knowledge.
Awesome standup!
H B I think u meant awful ?
why hasn't a cosmetic company swooped her up? She's over 50 y'all and looking flawless!
She seems like she'd be an adorable auntie or grandmother
Hey optometrist my eyes are up here...
Oh, she's good
Yeah this was great.
Chris Martin COLD PLAY, lead singer Chris Martin?
Very good, nicely done.
Awesome!
She's a real comedy-catch.
She nailed it!
awesome! seen her before, she's pretty funny.
J Scott Hatcher pretty, Yes. Funny, no
DID we just watch the same video
That's not great, but decent, clean jokes more suitable for certain audiences that's a good thing. Just looked her up, she is 50 yo, a rather pretty woman, decent comedian, should have more success, I have to ask the same question again, Why Amy Schumer?
Oh wow, she doesn't look 50 at all.
50?! Damn! She looks fckn phenomenal!!
She's not funny... But, she's certainly not looking 50.
She needs to put a "Katherine" in there if she wants to be a superstar.
Wow she is cooooool
Fell. Asleep
It kept getting worse !
Wow I didn't think this channel could make me laugh but then she happened
The microphone right in front, hiding her mouth the whole time bothered me. But it was a decent show :)
This must be what it's like to be a TV executive. Watching comedy and your only reaction is, "yes, this is humorous," instead of laughing.
Didn't realize TLS had open mike night.
With a little work on her delivery she could become big quick. She has a lot of potential.
Wow, I love her humour! Has she done any big stand-up shows? Because I've never even heard of her before.
There's a reason you've never heard of her... she's not that funny. Her routine didn't even make me smile, let alone laugh.
You have my sympathy
truly hilarious 😂
I loved her. Need to find more now.
She's funny and she deserves a less intrusive microphone.
Who was she in how i met your mother?
Nabiha Siddiqui according to imdb "female gate agent"
Lee Ann Stubbs lol why would anyone remember that
Nobody
Lamppost.
can one episode of How I Met Your Mother 5 years ago with a single line and 20 seconds of screen time (if you include wide shots) constitutes "You've seen on How I Met Your Mother" then again.. very funny seemed like a over statement as well. (also if her husband is 42.. IMDB either has her age wrong or she likes much younger guys)
Rob Elliott no one else cares
Close your eyes... She sounds like Ellen!!!
annaboulderco
Without Ellen's sense of timing unfortunately.
annaboulderco
Nope. She has that flat, broad Midwestern accent that signals Minnesota or Wisconsin or some such like.
Bro, do you even check your ears?
Hilarious 😂
Be mindful and ask the same question to yourselves u will find the answer eventually
She's pretty in Friends as Tilly, Chandler's crazy roommate ex-gf. So I looked her up and found this, nice job.
Probably does alright with US audiences. Most of the jokes were a bit over-explained for my taste.
half this set is "oo take my wife! baddabing"
Tilly from “friends”
Her jokes are very smart
that would be a great stand-up. if it would aired 40 years earlier, i guess
this Colbert episode is from 1952?!
tonyatthebeach
It’s déjà vu all over again...
Hahaha! Huge sex drive!
Funny!
Great set Mary!
Mary gallagher > noel gallagher > liam gallagher
Bad mum jokes
Got to move the mike away from mouth
Good jokes, great delivery, very comfortable on stage, all while meeting the rigid standards & practices thrown at standups on this show (Seriously, CBS, loosen up a little). I give it an A. Bravo!
very funny
Everybody doing stand ups on late shows
These are great jokes.
Am I the only one confused at how the affair joke ended? Maybe I didn't understand it
meh
"we are all going to wanna sit on the sofa, in my underwear"
I feel like she stole that “back that thing up” line from Emily Heller.
Abdullah Siddiqui
Mr. Emily Heller is so wickedly dry!
omg, the jokes are good, but the timing is way off.
fab! ♥️🐜
She's good. She's very dry. Her delivery reminds me a little bit of Steven Wright.
Kimberly Robinson steven wright!!? Deep cut
Dry? Try Anthony Jesselnik
Her delivery isn't bad the jokes weren't funny. And Steven Wright was funny.
Waiting to hear something funny...
Scooter Boy I think I’d rather watch grass grow.
Was she the mother in "How I Met Your Mother"?
Jason Bean no, that was cristin milioti
Lee Ann Stubbs, thanks! I really didn't know.:)
Is she as tall as she looks?
She was almost funny folks give her a round of applause.
Wow. They finally had a good stand up act on this show. The last few have been very questionable.
That audience is the worst.
Bebo18 If she had actual jokes, I'm sure the audience response would have been fine.
She must have come up with the sex drive joke in 2005 because 500GB is a joke for an HDD now. I know I'm being a dick, but jokes that are factually accurate are funnier, this is why the show Silicon Valley works. Mary Gallagher>Amy Schumer
Man... Schindler's List > Amy Schumer
Anyone > Amy Schumer
that stuck popcorn shell in the back of my mouth > amy
Probably the lowest bar you can conceive, aside from Hillary Clinton.
@Juan: that's not a high bar to climb over.
Actually funny. Her style and delivery is awesome, but I didn't find her jokes that funny. Dunno if it's just because I couldn't relate to the themes.
You're great!! Get the mike away from your mouth. It covers way too many of your expressions.
She’s so funnyyy!!! Omggg!!!!!! Invite her back!
I felt asleep after two minutes.....how was it?
It was pretty good, some jokes weren't great but there were more funny ones
energy ....good you did like it but for me it was like for an audience 85+ ...so incredible slow...every time waiting till everybody had time for a coffee
I prefer the power and the speed of Samanta Bee or the humour of Betty Bowers,

Her worst joke was 100 times better than your attempt at humour here...
The bar is set so low for these comedians it must be a negative number.
given your terrible attempt at a joke, don't think your opinion on comedy is actually valid :/
Your playlist has a lot of unfunny crap in it, you prob have shit taste in music as well. Not to worry, we can't all be perfect.
Haha, like i care about the opinion of someone with provably bad taste...
Also my taste in music is the best you'll find, due to its range and quality. You wouldn't stand 5 shuffled songs of my MP3 playlist due to its diversity of language and styles (if you're American that's not surprising). It would blow your small mind.

is no one gonna ask her middle name? really?
Material STARTS getting good at 1:44. Otherwise, this is awful.
I'm Tilly
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Finally Colbert finds a good one.
