Love the painting. If you are ever in that position again where you are needed to collage and stick something like that down, do the glue part, and place it on the paper. Then gently turn it upside down and press from the backside so that you don't smudge the work on the front or accidentally smear glue over the work. I do this all the time when making collages. Glue, place, turn over and press from the back.
This is such an entertaining video! I know this is also an old video but the struggle to stop is so REAL. I've realized I struggle to stop because I've finally gotten to the easy part and I don't want to let the easy go. The idea generation, sketching, composition, color selection, color mixing, and painting are all mental work and a little anxiety producing (or a lot anxiety producing). That last 10% is "easy," simple, "relaxing," - like the hard stuff is done so my mind is almost on cruise compared to everything that went into that 90% - so I don't want to stop when it's finally gravy. That's the best way I can describe it anyway. Giving it 24 hrs when the painting is almost done breaks that hyperfocus, "so much dopamine!!!" effect and allows me to see clearly. Plus I dislike everything I create right after I create it - no idea why - but I'm generally really impressed with it by the next day or next week. That gap makes it almost feel like someone else did it and that someone created a cute piece (yes, the neurodiversity is real 😂).
Vacuuming it is a work out, I got a medical intervention once, and the doc told me, just don't do anything hard, just do your everyday chores and stuff just nothing extreme. So, having in mind what he told me I decided to vacuum, because, it's normal and definitely not extreme. Oh my... I felt like dying afterwards... like all my insides were about to fall out and I wanted to cry. Like he literally told me to live as if nothing happened, that I didn't need to stay in bed, and yet I could only rest for an entire day because I decided to vacuum for 20 minutes. So, that was fun.
i always come back to your channel whenever i’m in a bit of a slump, both mentally and artistically. but i wanna say i haven’t laughed so hard in a while hearing your answer about toady and james swapping bodies. i loved it. i’m laying in bed with a headache but drinking water and made a little charcuterie plate to snack and watch you paint. it’s winter now and i miss the sunlight so watching your summer vlogs is really soothing somehow. anyway love from washington state
FYI the Staedtler pens are made to write on non-paper surfaces like CDs, plastic and the like - the non-permanent one is water soluble. We used them in school a lot, when we used those old-school overhead projectors with the images printed on see-through plastic sheets.
Watched this with my 5 year old & during we talked about what things calm us down ❤️ Love the doggie! Canvas is great because you can always add/subtract/paint over it.
omg Toady and James switching bodies really had me chuckling, excellent question. I loved watching you paint this session, I'm gearing up to do something on the weekend that pushes my use of color (I usually go for 'life like' color so watching you helps inspire me!)
for the larger pencils that you were unsure to sharpen…you can take an xacto knife and “wittle” it of sorts. Also love the vintage ceramic animals! I know it’s your thing but i love that you’re slowly adding to your collection 😊
Thank you so much for talking about how you were faster than the people in your class, I've struggled with this a long time (still am) and hearing you say it really made me feel better. I've always had the same problem of finishing a painting faster than others and doubting if I did a good job, just based on the time it took me to do it. Also I love your vibe and aesthetic so much, you're an inspiration
The reason I love in-progress pieces so much is because you can still see the potential of where it could go. 😂 I feel like that potential holds a lot of magic that fades away once you make your final decisions, lmao.
wow you just blew my mind by using poscas to figure out your painting. i usually just wing it or i use charcoal but both those things leave me unhappy. Thank you SOOOO much. funny, the things you learn.
proud of you for setting that “don’t overwork it” goal and following through-honoring personal boundaries always feels gooddd. painting turned out great, loved it right away on insta and it’s cool to see a process video and that inspo ceramic! dog looks like a Maisie.
All of your videos always bring me so much joy, and leave me feeling so inspired. I love the big doggo painting, the colors are awesome, thanks for sharing your daily life with us :)
I still LOVE how the flower painting ended up! the way you saved that was PHENOMENAL 💕💕 have you tried taking a picture of your painting with the white bg and then try to plan the background composition/colors on procreate? Maybe you'd like the end result if you plan it a little bit before committing to a paint color? i don't know painting so i'm just spitballing lol but i love your end results all the time anyway!! 💕💕
Your hair color looks beautiful and healthy with your skin! I’ve just started watching and excited to watch painting!! Yaaaay thank you for sharing your art life with us!
My dog died yesterday and I'm on my period and I finally have the time to relax to some nice videos and within seconds of it starting I feel better, how does your cute artsy and professional style always get better and better? Satisfying, absolutely lovely haha thundering here too, and I got my stickered up bottle by me at all times
The thing you said about going for too long because you saw everyone else was still working reminded me of when I was in Art class and there was an alternate/pro class for everyone to work at their own pace and i feel like that helped a lot of people grow as artists. :)
aaaa I loved all of your little desk and plant things but for some reason I especially loved the white vase with the blue lineart, sooooo pretty. And the art you made of it was cool. And yes, we all want to be Cheyenne Barton and y'all are way way ahead of me, but that's ok, the little art studio in my mind is perfect haha
Looking forward to NY PT2! I just went on a trip and planned to do a similar kind of video, with trip footage and drawing/painting sprinkled in. So funny, must be in the hive mind. 🤔
Love that doggo piece! I loved it before you "finished" it and loved that you left it ''unfinished"! I will name him Maraschino.. also! Big fan of random ceramic animals that are Made in Japan! lol.. Have WAY too many, but cant seem to stop! Thanks for a lovely vlog!
I submit Lemondrop for your dogs name... also... couldn't agree more about the soup, I love making homemade soups! I can't wait for this oppressive summer heat to be gone so I can get back to soup life! Thank you for always brightening my day! xoxo
I had the same problem with being too fast!! One thing I do when I feel like i might be in a stopping place is take a picture and then add things to it in procreate. That way I can explore other options (like if I want to add black lines or something) and see if I like it or not. Then I can go back and add it if I like it, but if not I haven't ruined my painting!! Hope this helps
Me! It’s me clicking the like button at the very beginning of the video 😆 Love the vlog! Also love both paintings. Doggo is super cute! Looks like a Samantha to me.
Yeah well I will try my hardest TO quote you about the walking and thinking, I hope you don't get mad. And the dogs name is Samson in my world. Loved this painting. Love your vlogs Leigh, they're always so chill and fun to watch. My mind doesn't even want to begin when I try and do a voiceover hahaha relatable
Looking gorgeous Leigh! Love the hair/colour and cut ❣ I was going to suggest 'Bones' for the dog (loving the colours in the painting!) but looking through everyone's suggestions I prefer theirs lol. Taffy, Samson, Leroy, Bruno, Yoghurt - OooOo - Yo-yo? Much love from Australia! 🥰
You are the best on RUclips. You beatiful vomen and so fun also love the painting whith the dog . Billy is his name 😅💙 big hugs from me an artist in sweden.see you.🥰
Gorgeous paintings omg!! Obsessed! I am loving all of the vintage ceramics that I’m seeing in this video! I try to take as many reference photos of the future things I wanna draw our paint when I can buttttt have I done anything with them? Nopeee 🤣 thank you for this VIBE of a video ✌️
Hahaha if I was alway collecting them idk if I’d ever draw them! Taking them in one go was the vibe for me this time we’ll see if I can do it again lol
Leigh, what printer do you use for art prints? I was looking through your faq on your website and couldn't find the answer! Thank you in advance. You are a true inspiration

Vacuuming is no joke!!! Especially if you have a heavy vacuum !!!
Love Howard the dog painting. Great additions at the end to the work. Fab video ❣️💐🐾
the texture of that pink bunny from apple cheeks looks like a mexican marshmallow cookieee aaaa

dogGAMMIT i love that painting, 10/10 would buy for my living room
I used to work at an antique mall and love all my references I got from that time.
The reason I love in-progress pieces so much is because you can still see the potential of where it could go. 😂 I feel like that potential holds a lot of magic that fades away once you make your final decisions, lmao.
Also, I would name that doggo Melba, because it reminds me of the peach melba dessert.
I love a good mystery. You’re right.
wow you just blew my mind by using poscas to figure out your painting. i usually just wing it or i use charcoal but both those things leave me unhappy. Thank you SOOOO much. funny, the things you learn.
You're welcome!! I actually saw someone using the poscas to sketch a big painting on tik Tok!!
proud of you for setting that “don’t overwork it” goal and following through-honoring personal boundaries always feels gooddd. painting turned out great, loved it right away on insta and it’s cool to see a process video and that inspo ceramic! dog looks like a Maisie.

“Pinkut ~ Pinkoot” comes to mind when looking at this 🐶🐾
The thing you said about going for too long because you saw everyone else was still working reminded me of when I was in Art class and there was an alternate/pro class for everyone to work at their own pace and i feel like that helped a lot of people grow as artists. :)

We all have those bad painting days when we want to challenge a piece and every thing we do fails…blah….you have my sympathy
The dog in the painting, his name is Taffy, because his colours remind me of sweet Taffy. Love the colour palette as a whole 👌
