      Same here. But I can't decide between Ranger Grip 78 and Swiss Tool Spirit, as they are made for completely different situations. Therefore I got the big Victorinox nylon holster that's made for the ratchet. I don't use the ratchet, but both, the 78 and the Spirit fix inside perfectly.

    My Rg 78 has a 1/4" hex hole under the plastic scale on the keyring side/end. The scale is imprinted so you can carefully cut a hex hole for a magnetic extension bit for various driver bits and as Felix shows using a paddle bit with a threaded point for making a rocket stove.
    Great knife.

    I own that 78 and it's my favorite as camping and outdoors. The basic knife and saw are large enough to do most stuff without bringing a fixed blade or saw. It's light, strong and comfortable

    Say Heah Thor and Mrs. You nailed this one, it's now my Fav's video on the Victorinox Delemont Collection Rangergrip 78. Infact I almost regretted not getting the 79 with the Corkscrew instead of the Phillips. Some guy said he uses the Corkscrew to untangle knots. But carefully using the Awl and the Phillips, I can untangle knots too. Yeah, it's one of my Fav's. In some of my basic trio carries, I use my Rangergrip 78 as my back-up knife and tool. You did good, Thanx You and your Mrs. Dilly Dilly.,,.p

    I used my SAK and the Firefly ferro rod to start my first fire without matches or a butane lighter recently. I also used the vasaline soaked cotton ball and a bit of shreaded hemp chord. Amazingly it only took one scrape from the rod to start the tinder. Always before it took a fist full of matches to do the same job. Thank all you bushcrafters.

    Got into the idea of a more substantial blade in an SAK type multitool when I got a Boker Tech Tool 4 but it is a bulky block like object in itself. These Ranger grips look a lot more ergonomic in the hand and the blades a better size. Might have to make an investment here in the near future. Thanks for the vid!

    You're right. This is an excellent knife in many respects. One handed opening (does tend to stiffen up with use though); great sized blade and easy to sharpen (however, there is an annoying blunt part of the blade nr the handle @ 10mm which cannot be used for cutting - stupid!); great liner lock; brilliant saw; great awl; good handle grip and nice length; useful phillips screwdriver bit (rather than the dumb corkscrew); plus tweezers. These are the main attractions for me. This is a brilliant camping, hiking, utility, bushcraft knife. Those who complain about the weight need to man up and grow a set. I'd rather have this on me than the heavier L/man Wave any day of the week.

    • @rennenviluan946
      @rennenviluan946 2 года назад

      the blunt part of the blade can be used to crush small bones when cutting and wedging wood. also if you dive and like shellfish some shell fishes we call em padas here, youll need a blunt edge to break the shell and eat em. stones wont work as itll crush the whole thing. so yeah. also crab legs if youre in a survival situation the blunt edge is preferred. where were at people live off the sea specially during the pandemic. wish i had one of these., buying my first one this weekend.

    Nice review, thank you. I just checked the Victorinox website and this knife sells for $75 in the US, €65 in Germany or CHF 59 in Switzerland. That's a rather expensive knife. The one-hand Trailmaster (Trekker in North America) has exactly the same tool combination and costs $65 in the US, €47 in good old Germany, or CHF 44 in lovely Switzerland. However, you can't go wrong with Victorinox and I woudn't mind sparing a few extra bucks on this knife as well.

      Thor-is-testing : The Trailmaster is 111mm while the one you have is 130mm long. That’s something to consider as well and this might be one of the reasons why it’s a little more expensive. Thanks for the great review once again and have a great week.

    Yeah, you gotta be careful using the saw as a striker. But it's totally safe if you hold the actual saw with your thumb and finger so it can't close on you. Some people modify the cap lifter with a file and use that as a striker.

    It makes me want one. For me, two long-time drawbacks of Swiss Army knives have been the lack of one-handed opening, and the slippery scales allow the knife to accidently slip out of my pocket in some postures. And I really don't like nail nicks. That saw looks really good.

    Huge fan of the old ranger style victorinox in fact i just bought one 4 days ago. To replace my old "ranger" that was an asian knock off but useful none the less. Find that a ranger and a small pair of vice grips are more versatile than the fanciest of multitools. This ranger looks nice and stout maybe even a better work horse than the original. Love the notch stick, perhaps show the making of it.

      Hi Thor...very late reply, but may be useful...he means that if you remove the scale (not sure which side) there is a hexagonal hole in the frame that you
      can fit standard hex bits in to extend the functionality of the knife. On the inside of the scale there is moulded a matching hexagon, which (if you remove material) will allow the use of the internal hex slot. I have seen a video of the process on RUclips but don't have a link, sorry. Great review. All the best to you and yours.
