    My wedding dress experience was..interesting
    1) Purchased a dress from BHLDN before my now-husband proposed
    2) Ended up not loving the original dress and returned it
    3) Ordered a new dress on Etsy
    4) Seller was a nightmare and the dress arrived ON my wedding day
    5) Purchased my actual wedding dress 3 days before my wedding on Facebook Marketplace and the first time I tried my gown on was the day of my wedding
Honestly, I always thought my wedding dress would be a huge moment for my wedding, but at the end of the day -- I just wanted to be clothed 😂

I didn't have the "this is the one" moment with my dress. It was my 8th dress appointment (I was trying really hard to stick to my $1000 budget) I passed by the dress on my initial look around the store but it kept catching my eye as I was trying on other dresses so I decided to try it on. It was very different than I what I thought I wanted but at the same time it really suits my personality. Everyone I was with cried and I loved the dress. I really liked the dress and knew if I didn't buy it, I would regret it. It was a $4500 dress at a consignment store for $1000!

I loved, LOVED my wedding dress. It was made by Jessica McClintock -" Wedding Elegance Wedding Weeds" circa 1978. A bridal boutique in Birmingham, MI was having a huge sale - wedding dresses sold for $49.00. Really! I didn't feel like me wearing a white dress, but this was a lovely off-white gown with long, lace sleeves and a high lace collar. I felt beautiful in it. My hat and slip were more costly than my dress. I think it originally retailed for about $300.

Confession- invited my MIL most hated family members to see if her threat of "not attending if they come" would stick. Fun fact: They came in full force, MIL didn't keep her "promise" and she was miserable the whole time. I secretly enjoyed it the entire time.

    Dress shopping
I had something in head, didn't find it in the shop I was. My mom litterally gave me no comments... "it's your dress, I don't want to influence you" ... But you're here to help me!!!
Finally, I bought my dress online after seeing it again and again pop in my feed. I don't regret it at all! It's everything I wanted, and more. Didn't cry but VERY happy.
I'm currently personnalizing it and making the alterations needed. Yep, I'm not a seamstress but I'm pretty alright .

I loved my recent shopping experience. The first time I went with family, found a dress but didn't really love it. but family did. So I returned the 1st one. After visiting my 5th bridal shop I picked the dress on my own. So glad I did. I avoided all the opinions. The other customers that were at the shop were so kind and it was like they were rooting for me as if I knew them. I loved my experience.

I was a Bridesmaid at my Friend's Wedding and during the planning process, the MIL had to uninvited to the wedding because she called her son after he had proposed and went off on him about how he's "Marrying below him and would have been better off with his Ex" (very unhealthy relationship)
Wedding day came and she did not show up, as the Bride feared, but His brother decided to try and steal a bottle of Whiskey from the bar to give to MIL afterwards... Many years later and the situation has only gotten worse with a Grandchild.

I felt that last one on a spiritual level. My future MIL refuses to even try talking to me because she’s convinced she can talk my boyfriend out of proposing to me this year. He told them in 2020 he was proposing this year, they live in India and we live together in the US. And we’re approaching our 6 year anniversary. Her reason…she doesn’t want to miss out on the dowery she would have gotten if he married an Indian woman. It’s a good thing they don’t really want to move to the US, I don’t think I could put up with them on a daily basis.

    My mother overnighted my
Wedding dress after altering for a rushed courthouse wedding. 2-3 days before the wedding date. It arrived the day after we got married. I wore a red velvet gown from a holiday party instead.
The postal service had no idea where the package was in the warehouse. Then she told them it was my wedding dress. She said she heard gasps and could see looks of horror from all of the staff that day. I think I felt worse for them thinking the day was ruined. I was newly postpartum so I figured I would wind up in the backup due to my ever changing body.

We're getting married in 33 days! But my fiance actually *lost* the ring in my apartment before he proposed... So I knew it was coming lol. My engagement ring belonged to my future-mother-in-law, and she had just given it to my fiance so it was just in his pocket before he could put it in something nicer. We tore through my whole apartment, but I was afraid to look anywhere since I did not want to be the one to find it! He eventually found it at his own place - so he didn't even need to have told me haha. Funny story now though!

I just had a generic idea of what I wanted in a dress, mostly wanted it to be sparkly (its not so I have to figure out how to sparkle it myself ! ) but I actually went twice, once with my fiance and I had the slight pressure that he liked a different dress than me so I took a picture of a couple - but I hated all of them so I went again by myself and took the time to ask more questions and really look and ask what can be added (also my budget was quite small and the dress is a color, not white) and I have ordered it but I am worried it is gonna be the wrong shade color 😬 and I didn't have the aha moment, just like ... I guess this is good, as long as I am pretty , look like a sparkly princess lmao

I have a funny wedding dress story. I’m getting married May of 2022. I bought a dress without even getting to try it on! I went to the shop with low expectations since it was my first time. I had no idea what I wanted, I only knew what I didn’t like. My mom and sister came with me. One dress stood out to us, but they didn’t have it in my size to try on. It had lace and buttons down the back and it was tea-length which I actually loved. I tried on several others, all of which looked terrible. We kept talking about that other dress, but the consultant wanted to find me something else. Finally, my mom asked if she could just try it on. So, my mom tried it on for me to visualize it. I bought it on the spot. It has now come in in my size and I absolutely love it. I got a long veil to go with so I will have a train for the ceremony. But people can’t believe I bought a dress that my mom tried on. Lol.

My dress story is pretty wild. I went dress shopping with my partner and best friend. We had a great time running through the boutique pulling dresses. While I had no intentions to purchase a dress that day, my plan was to figure out what I liked and get an idea of sizing because I wanted to buy something secondhand. I fell in love with the last dress I tried on and ended up finding it on StillWhite for less than $700. It is brand new and fits me like a glove! ABSOLUTELY UNREAL!! After our wedding I’ll be donating it to a local boutique that supports survivors of sexual violence ✨

I had the crying "this is THE dress" moment. My maids of honor and my officiant knew the second I came out in the dress...my confession is my mother tried to convince me not to buy it because she felt like she could find a much cheaper one or hire someone in asia to make it for dirt cheap (btw my fiancé and I are paying for the whole wedding ourselves). Not only that, the first bridal salon I went to, my mother made many comments about me being too fat, too ugly for the dress, etc. Word of advice to brides: pick a ride or die bridal party that has your back and knows YOU. Some mothers or family members can be damn nuts. Also quick shoutout to the 2 bridal consultants who helped me try on dresses because they saw me cry and made me remember it's my special day and NO BRIDE deserves to be put down. My husband's parents made comments about how "inconvenient" the location of my wedding venue was for them and showed up at the church in everyday clothes because they didn't have "time to change". It was about a two-hour drive for them and we had other guests arriving from much further away. It wasn't the fact that they didn't have nice clothes on in church that bothered me. To me, it showed a lack of respect. They also complained about other stuff throughout the day and I can still feel that I'm upset about it when I think about it months later.

    Wedding dress Horror story:
I had that perfect AHA moment when I got my dress. Went into David’s Bridal, (ALONE) first dress I put on was exactly, in every way, what I was looking for. I cried in excitement and relief because wow that was easy! Then, after purchasing this $1,500 dress, I proceeded to show it to my girls….
    HUGE MISTAKE!!!!
I was told I looked; Fat, pregnant, square, should stay away from any lines, saggy boobs, and sloppy.
I fricken cried and cried. Didn’t eat for 3 days and then went back to David’s Bridal and got a different dress. The lady who helped me was a 10/10 b****!!
Not only did she roll her eyes at my every critique, sigh when I asked to try something else, huff n puff at me wanting something a little more “me” and tell me she knew best for my body type, she also complained about my breast, wouldn’t listen to a word I said about not wanting a veil and then tried to sneakily rip off the clearance tag and charge me full price!!! It was horrible and I hate my dress. It’s pretty, but the experience makes me so angry that it’s hard to enjoy. I just wanted to get out of there so bad! Also, who takes a person with body issues and puts them in a COLUMN DRESS?!?!

I found a $4,000 dollar dress at a discount bridal shop in the mall. The ticket said It was $300 but when I checked out they discounted it again and it ended up being $200 with the tax. I actually ended up buying a different dress on Facebook marketplace for $300 because the one I found in the mall could not be altered so I ended up taking the beading from it and adding it to the other and it turned out beautiful. I did not want to spend a ton of money on a dress for one day.

We just started wedding planning like a month or so ago, and I just started dress shopping last week. Didn't cry nor feel like "omg this is my dress" in any of the dresses tbh, but I did fall in love with like several dresses but they are all in different silhouette and styles. Another note, I never realize alterations and tax would cost almost double the price of the dress (which I feel like is what's holding me back and is definitely swaying my decision). So now I am panicking and feeling the pressure from family members (from both side) as they all have opinions on where and how much we should spend on our intimate wedding and my dress.

I found 2 wedding dresses I liked from David's bridal. I actually ended up going with the more wild dress. I love it though. It really complement my curves and hides my tummy. Part of it has some volume and the other part is more traditional. It's strapless. After looking at the pictures to compare 2 dresses I saw how much better I looked in the second one. I tried it back on for a second time and knew it's the one. I felt like a princess and gorgeous.

Oh my, I haven't been married but for regretting your wedding dress... when I got my prom dress, I liked so many that it was hard to decide. I think I tried 50 ish, and at the end, there were eventually 2. One I'd half to order because they didn't have my size but I went safe to just .ake a desition with the one in stock in person and though it's pritty, I should have sleped on it because I put so much pressure on myself so am nervous to pick a weding dress. I think I want to bring one friend. Maby a different to every store and save it as a surprise for my mom and she said she doesn't care. it's my day❤. It's so awkward to try on dresses when theirs people just watching you. Brought my mom... grandma (because I thought it be cute)...friend how had already got hers because she had spent the night... and another younger than me. They were great, but it was weird. I did like having one try on dresses with me (the younger one), so I will do that again. Just friends that will try stuff on with me. Good luck, all brides. And do what she says to skip the expensive extras.🙂💖💗

I went to 3 bridal stores and tried on over 30 dresses, but did not have “the moment.”
I was starting to believe the bridal moment did not actually exist and I would have to settle for a dress that I liked but did not love.
But, it was actually my mom that did not let me settle and said we should go to the other bridal stores to look.
In the 4th store I went to, I saw this dress hanging up immediately when I walked in. It had all the elements I wanted and as soon as I walked out and looked in the mirror I just knew. It was the first dress I said I loved. I even tried on a couple others to make sure it was not just a spur of the moment thing. I just wanted to put my dress back on.
This is a message to everyone!
Do not force it, you will know!

While my fiancé and I had talked about marriage, I had no idea he bought a ring nor did I have any inclination that he'd propose when he did. It was a complete surprise!

I bought my dress by myself because I worked in a bridal salon. I saw it, I fell in love, and I was paying for it. I also picked out my girls dresses as I had size 0 to size 26 bridesmaids and knew I needed a dress that worked for all those sizes. My mother was around but not really involved (mental issues she refused to take care of), my biological father refused to have my adopted father walk me down the aisle (so told him he was not longer invited if he was so shallow as to not have the man who actually raised me there). Thankfully I had the best wedding ever with friends and family (over 300 guests) ever and it still gets talked about today (we were married in 1989!) I don't recall feeling overwhelmed as I planned everything and had things completed well in advance. The only thing that went wrong on that day (well, two things) are my veil and bouquet was left in the BM's car and I refused to walk into the reception w/o it (he arrived 15 minutes late) and, now I can laugh about this one, I wore a tiny thong thing for the first time, with a pad. Yep, pad fell out walking down the aisle. My mother caught sight of it and kicked it under a pew. Pretty sure no one but the two us us knew it happened. There is even a picture of us in the receiving line talking about her quick move! Oh, and we had a 2 year engagement so he could finish college. Celebrating 34 years of honeymoons on a cruise next month!

Re. dress shopping: I got a little misty when I first tried it on, but there were things I wanted to tweak and my mom didn’t love it. She convinced me to go to the next appointment we had scheduled before making a decision. This lead to another month of dress shopping, including trying that same dress on two more times, before I finally went back and bought it. So I guess I fall somewhere in between having a Moment and just picking a dress I liked.
Re. the proposal: I knew it was coming but there were so many times I thought it was going to happen and it didn’t that by the time he actually proposed I was completely surprised. And the wait was worth it, even though I got so annoyed with him when it kept not happening 😅

Dress shopping: I brought my mom, future mother in law, and my sister/maid of honor. They all picked out great dresses to try on! I put the first dress on and broke down in tears because of the overwhelming experience. Suddenly it all fell on me that I was actually getting married and became really real. I found a dress that as soon as I put it on, I loved it. I cried some more and was able to bring it home that day!

Omgoodness yessss on the decision making/opinion confession! My then fiancé had the habit of saying "I don't care" to all of the decision that I asked of him. I knew fully well that he did care, but it just didn't matter to him which option as long as I was happy with it. He knows I plan meticulously and any option would be fine, but I needed/wanted his opinion. I broke down one day and just had to lay it out to him that saying he "doesn't care" made me think he really didn't care to get married and I would cancel the wedding if he said it anymore. He never said it again, nor does he say it to this day.
For the dress: I loved my dress! There was no crying for me, I didn't even cry at my wedding, or for the group I had with me. I just felt like I never wanted to take it off. It had pockets!!

At first the dress was NOT a priority because, "it's just a dumb ole dress I'm gonna to wear one time". Low budget, I'll grab it off Amazon or something. Whatever.
I did the try on dresses thing to get an idea of what shape to buy (not intending to actually buy) and took my Fiancee because he's my best hype man and I would be sure to get something he likes. But maaaaan, when we saw it, and then I put it on, all the "clouds parting, birds singing" talk made a lot more sense. It was the first time I saw what HE sees when he looks at me. After that, there wasn't anything else I could buy.

WEDDING DRESS MOMENT- (a true skeptic turns neurotic. LOL🤣)
Being plus sized, I "just knew" I was gonna struggle to find something I loved. I DID NOT WANT a hip hugging trumpet/mermaid/sheath dress. Absolutely DO NOT want to show my tummy, I'd like sleeves because of my flabby arms. I also HATE LACE on me. It ages me like raw fish in the Texas sun! I searched online to find multiple dresses at different stores in order to find a store that would have enough of a selection for me to try on. I had a soul crushing experience at a David's bridal that left me broken. I no longer wanted to try on dresses or do the whole bridal moment thing.
While walking the aisles of a store to pull dresses I saw a glimpse of an applique on one dress and asked to try it on. It was 3sizes too small, couldnt fit over my hips and certainly could not be closed. There was something in my mind that said- I need to try this on in my size.
I called 10 different dress shops: there were none in the state of Arizona. I proceeded to called 31 additional stores in CA, NV, NM, NY, NJ, FL, & CT.
I became OBSESSED w/ finding this dress and I had no clue what it looked like on me.
FINALLY FOUND IT! a Shop in Ca shipped it to their sister store here in AZ. Fast forward- As I pulled one of the sleeves on I got chills. I legitimately started to shake. The associate was fastening the buttons, "This dress was made for your hips and butt. They look SO GOOD!" 🤣 The moment I stepped out my friends burst into tears, and I don't think I looked at myself for 1 whole second. But I already knew.... THIS WAS IT! It was everything I SWORE I DID NOT WANT:
It was form fitting (EVERYWHERE), showed off my hips, had a DEEEEEP plunging back, and lace-like appliques. BUT!!!!!
    THIS WAS IT.
I didn't care how much, take my card, ring it up, this Bissssh iz miiiine!!!!
I have NEVER felt as beautiful as I did in that dress. (I have pics if you'd like to see.)

One of my bridesmaids decided to die her very long black hair HOT PINK one month before my wedding. Yeah she was wearing sage green too. So my wedding photos are more colorful than I anticipated.
I also had a friend tell me he was “disappointed” in us for not giving him a plus one to his girlfriend of a year that we didn’t know he had. See we hadn’t seen him because of the pandemic and he never thought to tell us he was dating someone. So we were just suppose to accommodate him 3 weeks before the wedding (rsvp were due weeks before this conversation).

My wedding dress experience is that I'm from New Zealand, I'm also plus size, so for me, my wedding dress shopping was very, very difficult. I did my dress shopping online, New Zealand's Trade Me to be exact, it was nerve-racking to receive my dress in the mail and when it put it on in front of my mum, she liked it and I loved it at the time..... That was 2019/2020... We were meant to get married that May but crap hit the fan with a few other things as well as the global situation... Now, we're getting married May this year, 2022, and now I look at my dress I don't like, thankfully, my best girlfriends, cheered me up about it a few weeks ago and I was able to try my dress on again in a more open environment because my place with my mum at the time that I had brought the dress didn't have the space. Anyway, I kind of like my dress now but I'm still not 100% about it and it's kind of bugging me.
Other than that, my wedding is 3 - 4 months away, I can't decided on a theme, can't afford anything to do with a planner and I feel like I'm bugging everybody with talking about it because I keep going on and on because I'm excited. May 21st is going to be nerve-racking, also the comment you said, Jamie, with the hating the pastor that married that couple, well I'm in the same boat, originally wanted a non-religious celebrant but wanted to hire the space of the church building and hall that's attached but the pastor we're dealing with, he won't let us get married unless it's by him, I would go for another venue but there's barely anything where we live... Apologise for the rant, haven't talked about this for a few weeks.

RE Dress shopping: I decided to go dress shopping by myself mainly because I didnt want my mothers opinion I wanted to decide on a dress on my own .... and then my bestfriend pulled a sicky and drove to a different city to be with me and my boss loves dress shopping so she did the same hah. I had a dress I had seen that I loved and I decided I didn't want to try it on first so I got the girls to find dresses for me to try and I chose a few as well .. I'm just gonna say it ... I didn't have a "Bridal moment" ... I didn't get emotional or have the "say yes to the dress dramatic crying" thing going on ... I found my dress and I loved it and afterwards I felt like "omg is there something wrong with me I didn't get all emotional?!" and yaknow what .. nope its perfectly normal not to have "that" moment .. you don't need a bridal moment to find your dress .. I got my wedding dresses on December 23rd at David's Bridal. My mom, grandma, and 3 of my sisters were there with my FMIL on FaceTime. I tried on my first black sparkly dress and was in tears when I tried it on. I cried a lot that day, I mostly cried because I had been trying in traditional white wedding dresses and didn't feel confident or sexy at all. Then my stylist said that she had a dress she wanted me to try on and I felt like I looked so good in it. I originally didn't want to wear a black dress because I wanted to wear white out of respect of both my family and my FH's family as well. But my mom and sisters said that that's who I am and that the dress made me the beautiful rocker girl that they've known me to be and that I shouldn't care what others say.
Went on to try another dress because the 1st one I felt was more party styled and not elegant enough for the ceremony. My second wedding dress had everyone in tears. My grandmother was crying when she saw me in the 2nd dress and said that she loved it even though she would have loved to see me wearing white. My dress shopping experience was so amazing, I'm so thankful and happy that I had decided to do that. Originally, I didn't want to do the whole wedding show (dress shopping, Bachelorette Party) but I'm glad I did!

I went dress shopping with my mom when I was "engaged" the first time. She's really chill and I knew she wouldn't make me uncomfortable or feel pressured. It was the only one that I REALLY did not want to take off and made me feel so pretty and like a princess. No other dress made me feel that way. When we broke up I tried getting rid of it because I didn't want to think of him or wear a dress intended for a failed engagement when I actually do get married. Luckily, I couldn't find anyone to buy it and I came to my senses and realized I shouldn't let that bad experience be the reason I don't get to wear the dress of my dreams if and when I do get married. Now, many years and pounds later, I'm getting married in October - and trying to get back in shape to fit back into that dress (making a lot of progress!). I couldn't be happier and I hope everyone gets to feel the way I'm feeling right now.

STRAP DOWN LADIES AND GENTS. Okay so I have a 20 month engagement. But we are at the 9 week mark now.. okay so I had all of my bridesmaids picked at the 6 month period. Well less than a month ago a bridesmaid BACKED OUT at the last minute! Well let’s just say someone swept in and just invited themselves into the wedding party and are now wanting to make our wedding about themselves…. And THEN. We sent out invites. I wanted a 100 person wedding cause of my horrible anxiety 😒. It’s… 150 people without me knowing until we didn’t have enough invites. Well here’s the thing… my mom was butt hurt that I didn’t invite people I didn’t know, so she sent invites without telling me. I knew 2 weeks later cause then I couldn’t uninvited them….. so now I don’t have enough centerpieces, table clothes, desserts, chairs, ANYTHING!!!!! And I have 9 weeks to go 😭

Which confession to put here? There are so many.
I didn’t completely understand that my husband was proposing right that moment (we were flying tandem hang gliding - which is normal for us, but he wasn’t on one knee or anything). He said a lovely little speech (wish I remembered it) about how much he loved me and then said “so read the grass” I was like, “what is he talking about?! Like tea leaves? Grass, as in weed?!” I was so confused. The landing zone said “Merry me, Alicia?” But I, of course didn’t have my glasses on and was confused so it took me a sec. He, mean while, is asking if that’s a yes and I squeak out “uhuh” and he to this day thinks I was just choked up. I’m gonna let him keep believing that.
Sort of sad I didn’t get to emphatically say yes, but this is cute too. And it was quite the proposal. 💗

My dress shopping experience was very different but I enjoyed it a lot: I was prepared to spend up to 3000€ but also be open minded and check what's out there online. So I didn't shy back from trying on beautiful but even more expensive dresses just to see what would fit me best and then see if I found something similar on AliExpress. And I did!!! I was shocked to see that the expensive stores used the exact same pictures as on AliExpress and in the end I bought 2 dresses on Ali that were very close to ones I had tried and liked in the store and then decided once they had arrived. This literally saved me 2500€! And I'm very proud about my budgeting skills which makes me like my dress even more

My daughter just got married 2/2/22. Here is her dress story. When she was born, my husband's boss gave her a savings bond, which led me to start payroll deductions for savings bonds. Fast forward to her college years and we totally forgot we had them to use for her education, so I said they will be used for her wedding gown when God brings her together with her husband. She only had a MOH but preferred that only I come shopping with her. Her bridal consultant was spectacular and when she tried the sixth dress on, (the consultant's choice) she cried and I was literally jumping up and down. She was stunning. The exciting part was that the savings bonds amount was $50 over the dress price. We only paid for alterations. Her advice to brides would be to NOT bring a parade of people dress shopping. Just bring one or two people whose opinions really matter. Less drama, more happy memories.

In June it'll be 2 years been engaged. Because of what has been happening in this world, we waited til this year to get married. I made sure to plan everything MAJOR ahead of time. No joke 2 years out. Everyone told me to slow down and I have time. I didn't listen and went with my gut and I'm glad because if i hsd waited til more recent everything we have had booked wouldn't have been available to us. Going into planning with the mind set that alll if not majority of the weddings that had to be moved due to the pandemic it may havw been hard to book for 2022. Booked the venue, caterer, photographer, florist and almost a videographer (they ended up being too expensive for us) months after getting engaged. No regrets. I even got my dress which I fell in love with when it was in thr bag, I tried it on and boom. I was the ONLY one that cried when I had THE dress on. In the moment I was mad because I expected and thought atleast my mom would cry (tho we have very different tastes so that's probably why lol). Getting my dress as early as i did (fit and flare style) its kept me in check physically. But I have no regrets and the same amount of excitement being my wedding is around thr corner. We are now focusing on my fiance, our kids, our parents and sibling getting dressed for our day and all the small details are coming together. I absolutely love Jamie's personality and vibe and I have taken alot of her advice going into my wedding planning

My dress was a rollercoaster, lol. I chose one model that I wanted to have made, but then during a period of PMS I decided I hated it, but since I don't trust my feelings during that period, I waited until it passed to see if I would have the same opinion. I did, so I decided to look for a different model. I found one that was absolutely perfect, so I took that to the seamstress for her to make something similar. After that first conversation I thought everything was perfect, until I had the first fitting and found out that she had used the wrong fabric for the sleeves, the one I had SPECIFICALLY asked her NOT to use, and had only very loosely based the dress she was making on the model I'd given her, had put these hideous lace flowers on the straps of the dress, and it didn't even FIT me, despite her having gotten my measurements! So after a lot of tears, a lot of prayer, and a couple of months, she calls me again for the second fitting. I was nervous as heck that it would be terrible, but when I saw that she took all of my concerns to heart, and made a stunning dress with so much love and care, I cried again - but this time, tears of joy! And everyone who saw it said it was totally me, with the medieval style sleeves and cape instead of a veil. My now husband was totally in love with it, too! A happy ending after all! =)
