In 1479, the Sultan of Turkey confirmed Raden Patah as Khalifatullah ing Tanah Jawa, the representative of the Islamic caliphate (Turkey) for the Land of Java, by handing over the black-purple Laa ilaha illallah flag made from the Ka'bah kiswah cloth, and the flag that read Muhammadarrasullah in green. The duplicate is kept at the Kraton Yogyakarta as an heirloom, a marker of the legitimacy of the Yogyakarta Hadiningrat Sultanate which represents the Turkish Caliphate," Sri Sultan said in his speech, Monday, February 9, 2015.
I agree with you steve, jogja is the most livable city out of all indonesia, i've been lived here near 1 year and never get bored. Another FYI, the more far from the center of city (malioboro street and surrounding area near that street) the more cheaper price of food you get. For example: that chicken satay, in malioboro (that showed in your vid) is about 20k for 10 sticks, in the suburbs the price will cut half of that
6:48 yes. i visited jogja some 15 years ago.... it was different. it was less organized, very crowded, very chaotic and less clean. it is good to see these changes. 8:52 that's about RM6 for 10 sticks.. very good price. 17:48 wow.... you are better at eating chilis than me... i can't take these small chilis (Bird's eye chilis) anymore.. 19:27 jogja nowadays feels like malacca to me.. it had different vibes the last time i visited. oh well, win some, lose some.
According to Government, Jogja it's self is the most livable city in the country, It ranked 1 in term of livability, even though it's Human Development Index is very high but the regional income is relatively lower compare to other 5 provinces in Java Island, More than that it's the second largest tourist destination in Indonesia after Bali as well as it is known as the center for learning since there are hundreds of universities, including Indonesia's most prestigious university named Gadjah Mada University (UGM)
Ah! This is interesting info! Thanks for this! So, my suspicion was right! Yogja is a very livable city, which is unique because it is great for tourism AND living. What a nice place :)

Apart from the programs being recognized by the Malaysian government, the lower cost of living and tuition fees as well as somewhat similar language and food are the main attractions to come and study there.
It looks like a genuine touristic region, I mean, it's touristic because there's a lot of genuine culture and not the contrary. Other good point, the domestic tourism. Actually, I do prefer to go where the locals go than the foreigners, it's a different vibe. I really like it!! 🙌🤌

I like to watch your video: the way you tell about the city is very nice. You know a lot about Yogyakarta.... The history but also the places to visit. Top!
Wellcome to the most complete tourism destination in indonesia (Jogja and around). You can find historical sites, cave, famous liveable street, white sand beaches, brown sand beaches, palace, culture, tradition, lake, mountain, waterfalls, art market, handycraft center, the most beautiful airport in indonesia, world class university etc 🙏🙏
In case if you go to Java again Magelang is supposed to be on your list of your liveable city in Indonesia. It has Borobudur, surrounded by mountains and rice paddies, near Dieng Plateau, higher altitude, but still have mall and somehow not getting crowded as Yogyakarta. Malang in East Java also has similar vibe but bigger city compared to Magelang.
@@JetLagWarriors Solo or Surakarta must be on your next trip too. It is the sister city of Yogyakarta since they are basically from the same kingdom before Dutch split it. Sadly its kingdom has no power anymore unlike Yogyakarta. They both connected with new electric commuter train.
U shoulda visited the other Teras Malioboro at the other end of the street near the main station where more or most street souvenir vendors (less food vendors) are relocated, and all on ground/no 2nd level.
Wow, the lumpia comes wt garlic and green chilli. I hv never eaten chilli this way. I can't take the spicyness. I would burst into tears with runny nose and a heap of tissue! Steve n lvana sure could handle it but not too well after that..."my mouth is on fire"...7 times 😅😂🤣🔥🥵
The Sultanate of Yogyakarta is an Islamic kingdom on the island of Java, but the arrival of Islam has not changed the original Javanese culture as seen from the Javanese cultural performances which are still thick with Hindu nuances, although there are Hindu stories that are Islamized, such as some wayang stories. And FYI, Malioboro has been designated as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO. Therefore, the traders who used to be a lot in the area were relocated to a special merchant area on the "Teras Malioboro"

Steve and Ivana, it is finally another session for my TLDR post lmao . Seriously and Honestly, I'm not trying to flex, but I often feel a considerable urge to explain things and I find it fun to do. 🤣 Plus I know that you have many Malaysian followers who are also watching your Indo videos and are active in the comments, some curious about Indonesia. I want to dedicate this explanation to them as well. 😃 First and foremost though, to my fellow Wong Jowo and Indonesians in general, please feel free to correct me and I apologize beforehand for any potential mistakes in my following explanations, maturnuwun/matursuwun. There's a bit of confusion and misnomer for both foreigners and Indonesians outside of Java whenever using the term 'Jawa'/'Java'. This is because it can mean a number of things: 1. The island itself (Java) 2. The Javanese ethnic (contrary to what Ivana said, we don't consider Javanese to be a particular 'race', as this would better suited for 'Austronesian', which the Javanese ethnic is part of). 3. The provinces of Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta (provinces on Java where the Javanese ethnic is native to) There are at least 5 major native ethnic groups in Java, predominant in/inhabiting the respective provinces on the island: 1. Betawi (Betawinese, from Jakarta) 2. Banten (Bantenese, from Banten province) 3. Sunda (Sundanese, from West Java province) 4. Jawa (Javanese, from Central Java, Yogyakarta, mainland East Java provinces) 5. Madura (Maduranese, from madura island in east java (origin), and several parts of mainland east Java province) Some people would include the Baduy people in West Java and Tengger people in East Java as separate ethnicities from Sunda and Jawa. Besides that, there are also variations and mixes within a particular ethnic group. Each of these ethnic groups has distinct culture from one another despite similarities, and calling a Sundanese, Betawinese, Bantenese, and Madurese as 'Orang Jawa' is not exactly correct. It would be correct if this is to refer to the fact that they originate from the Island of Java, but they are clearly not of Javanese ethnic and would refuse to be considered so. When hearing the term 'Yogyakarta as the center of Javanese culture', well... this isn't entirely correct. To be clear, it would be better to say 'Center of Javanese Ethnic culture' so as to avoid grouping the other ethnic groups under 'Javanese' due to natural geography. Furthermore, there are variations in Javanese ethnic culture. For example, the folks in East Java province, particularly in Surabaya and its surrounding, have a different dialect (Suroboyoan) which has some words with different meaning to that commonly used in other areas, Yogyakarta for instance. What you mean as 'leave' in Central Java/Yogyakarta dialect could well mean 'arrive' in Surabaya dialect. The difference reminds me of Indonesian-Malaysian daily language differences, such as in 'Di' in Indonesian and 'Kat' in Malaysian. To some Javanese (ethnic) people, the idea of Yogyakarta as capital of Javanese (ethnic) culture may even be considered rather offensive as not all of Javanese ethnic regions were always under the Islamic Mataram Kingdom (which later became the Yogyakarta and Surakarta (city of Solo)). Some regions, especially in the east, even resisted Mataram rule in the past. When you go outside of Yogyakarta to Central Java and East Java provinces, differences may emerge. In Central Java, the difference may be subtle, but you'd find a different spectrum once you head further east towards Surabaya and Banyuwangi. The Sunda, Madura, Betawi, and Banten people all have their own characteristics. The Bantenese share similarities both with Sundanese and Javanese, the former due to proximity, and the latter due to historic relations between the Banten Sultanate and Mataram Sultanate in Yogyakarta. The Sundanese people are closely related with the Javanese ethnic, including words, traditional fashion, performance arts, etc but their languages are not mutually intelligible. It would be as if a Japanese meets a Chinese, they would find similarity in Japanese Kanji alphabet, both use chopsticks, etc etc but they are still so different from one another. The Maduran people have a very different language and a very distinct accent to that of the Javanese (central, yogya, or even east). Many migrated to East Java and have lived there for generations, making most of them able to speak Javanese. Finally, the Betawi people are said to be much closer to the Malays than the rest of Java. Aspects of their culture are influenced by Chinese, Arab, Malay, Dutch, and Portuguese culture, thanks to their homeland being an important port in the past for traders from Asia and Europe. Finally, if you think you've fallen in love with Yogyakarta for its culture, people, art, and ambience, wait till you see Bandung. 🤣 EDIT: I'm not trying to say that Bandung is better than Yogyakarta. I'm just saying that it's another beauty to consider. In the end, both have their own charms. Some people prefer one over the other. I'm Javanese myself (I identify with my mother's hometown, Pekalongan) but I was born in Garut, south of Bandung.

Walau kini kau tiada tak kembali
Namun kota mu hadirkan senyum mu abadi

What a great city! Doubly impressive because it's great 1-for travel and 2- to live in! Shoutout to Yogja!
@@JetLagWarriors it seems to have amazing beaches near by too. Seems a perfect place!
I like to watch your video: the way you tell about the city is very nice. You know a lot about Yogyakarta.... The history but also the places to visit. Top!
Thank you so much 😀
Wellcome to the most complete tourism destination in indonesia (Jogja and around). You can find historical sites, cave, famous liveable street, white sand beaches, brown sand beaches, palace, culture, tradition, lake, mountain, waterfalls, art market, handycraft center, the most beautiful airport in indonesia, world class university etc 🙏🙏
Terima kasih☺️
In case if you go to Java again Magelang is supposed to be on your list of your liveable city in Indonesia. It has Borobudur, surrounded by mountains and rice paddies, near Dieng Plateau, higher altitude, but still have mall and somehow not getting crowded as Yogyakarta. Malang in East Java also has similar vibe but bigger city compared to Magelang.
Sounds like a great place! Thanks 👍
Saya juga suka dg kota jogja,i love jogja

Welcome to my home town 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩♥️♥️♥️

First and foremost though, to my fellow Wong Jowo and Indonesians in general, please feel free to correct me and I apologize beforehand for any potential mistakes in my following explanations, maturnuwun/matursuwun.
There's a bit of confusion and misnomer for both foreigners and Indonesians outside of Java whenever using the term 'Jawa'/'Java'. This is because it can mean a number of things:
1. The island itself (Java)
2. The Javanese ethnic (contrary to what Ivana said, we don't consider Javanese to be a particular 'race', as this would better suited for 'Austronesian', which the Javanese ethnic is part of).
3. The provinces of Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta (provinces on Java where the Javanese ethnic is native to)
There are at least 5 major native ethnic groups in Java, predominant in/inhabiting the respective provinces on the island:
1. Betawi (Betawinese, from Jakarta)
2. Banten (Bantenese, from Banten province)
3. Sunda (Sundanese, from West Java province)
4. Jawa (Javanese, from Central Java, Yogyakarta, mainland East Java provinces)
5. Madura (Maduranese, from madura island in east java (origin), and several parts of mainland east Java province)
Some people would include the Baduy people in West Java and Tengger people in East Java as separate ethnicities from Sunda and Jawa.
EDIT: I'm not trying to say that Bandung is better than Yogyakarta. I'm just saying that it's another beauty to consider. In the end, both have their own charms. Some people prefer one over the other. I'm Javanese myself (I identify with my mother's hometown, Pekalongan) but I was born in Garut, south of Bandung.
Bandung selalu ngangenin
Where was this place??
Sudah 9 tahun nggak pulang kampung kgn jogja😢😢
