Crown moulding can really enhance your home's aesthetic appeal. I have installed wood crown molding over the years and I will now start using high density foam crown moulding from now on. It is cheap and easier to work with not to mention it looks just like wood. You can also buy this crown molding from places like Home Depot or Lowes.
Here are the specs on it:
Internet: 206665560 Model # GP
Nomastyl 1-1/2 in. x 5-1/2 in. x 78-3/4 in. Polystyrene Crown Moulding
High density foam is lightweight and installs with acrylic caulk.
Surface is smooth and crisp for a classic crown appearance.
Choose a custom look by painting any color you wish.

Just so everyone knows, these feel like Styrofoam but there is another type of polystyrene molding by American Pro Decor from home depot that is different, it is a lot harder and feels almost like plastic. I would go with those.
how long does this thing last? I heard some get powder like after some years
@@onzkicg This is the best stuff ever! I have the foam from Amazon and just used double sided tape, Been 3 years now and looks great. The best tool to cut with is a thin utility blade and not a saw or even the one shown in the video as this is FOAM!
Thank you for giving us such a detailed video.
Thanks for watching & for the feedback!
Very good video, thanks. I have a question. Can polystyrene molding bend for a slow curve wall ? Do you have video for it ?
What kind of paint did you use ?
(Water based, polyurethane, etc..?)
Perfect instructional video 👍🏼
How do i buy the product
Looks awesome dude. Now you just need to do something about those cabinets.
Thanks! I did. This is an older video.
could you please provide the exact link for ordering this as the link is not working for me
Very useful video.
I thought about doing this but the price is crazy at $43 each. Ouch! Great video. I would want to add led lights to the crown mold.
Search “Nomastyl” crown moulding… it’s $9.24 at Home Depot per 6’… that’s $1.42 per foot
We can sell as $1 per inch
Great stuff Sir. Came out very nice. How long did it take you to complete?
It took 2 days but only because I have a day job too. The 1st day was spent cutting, mounting, and filling in seems. The 2nd day consisted of taping off the walls with painters tape and painting the crown moulding with a two coats of white semi gloss Behr premium plus paint.
I really enjoyed your video, my apt has no molding until now , should do another followup on do's and don't, seen alot and this is far the best without electrial equipment, thanks
Thank you! Will do!
Looks great. I bought the same as yours. Really good material. Only problem is i am not able to get the right angle for the corners. Do you have a link where i can buy the angle cutting tool that you have. Thanks.
*Thanks you much! Here is the angle cutting tool ➜**amzn.to/2wKSZgU**.*
Do you know if it has any off gassing?
I can’t cut with that board. I tried and tried and I never makes a flush cut. What am I doing wrong?
Do they make chair rail molding?
I'm not sure but I would only use this material in high areas where things can't bang into it.
Great review instructional vid, thanks
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
How do you call that yellow tool you used for angle cutting?
*It is called a mitre box ➜**amzn.to/3wPxp67**.*
very nice how to order
Looks great
Thanks! Happy New Year!
My husband has no experience with styrofoam crown molding but he seems to think it would be lower class or quality. Although I'm not sure he's ever had to put it up-maybe once or twice. Is there anything you can tell me here I can relay to him, to demonstrate its possible superiority over wood ? ....And advantages over wood? Are there any possible disadvantages to wood? Less expensive? Looks as great? Lasts as long? Also, if you buy white light weight crown molding, do you still need tol paint it white to make it look finished?
In my opinion I love this stuff. I have worked with wood for years and this styrofoam material is amazing. It is so easy to use, cut, shape, mount, and paint. It is also resistant to mold, mildew, and moisture. Most importantly you don't need a big table saw/angle cutter or nail gun etc. It is a fraction of the cost off wood and last just as long as wood if not longer. Painting it is not required but highly recommend just like with wood crown moulding.
What can be done about the open end of the molding? My living room has an open end doorway. So i can i close the gaps that show on the ends.
You can use caulking or even drywall putty.
I think I'm going to try it.
Thank u thank u for this video very very detailed and sooo helpful love it u did and outstanding job 👍🏾
Glad it was helpful and I truly appreciate your feedback! Much thanks!
Can you use this product for crown moulding on cabinets?
Any updates on how it’s holding up?
Still this same. I'm so happy with it. Will do a follow vid real soon!
This is my 8 month update ➜ruclips.net/video/FHsPUqXAjLM/видео.html
Wow what will they think of next
looks really good actually.. good job
🍃🕊 Thank You!!!! Sir. My Husband Will be Thrilled with this Product! 🕊🍃 Blessings!
Wonderful!
You said $6-7 a piece but I find them $29.99 or so per length of 78 inches. So you probably used 8 lengths for your kitchen and should have cost you almost $300. Am i correct?
Where did you bought that products
Great job
Much thanks!
So it is $29.99 a length. Am i correct?
how long does it last and does it get dirty easily?
They last forever and it does not get dirty easily. To give it a better finish and easy for cleanup it helps to paint it satin, semi gloss or a high gloss finish.
This is my 8 month update ➜ruclips.net/video/FHsPUqXAjLM/видео.html. I found no issue with it. It still looks as great as day one and it doesn't get dirty.
Did u paint it or caulk it or anything
Yes I caulked first then painted 2 coats of semi gloss white paint. You can use semi gloss or high gloss.
@@VibrantDeals do you recommend the caulk over plaster? Should I use both like you
Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching!
I'm thinking of doing this with double tape in an apartment really cool
Nice! Let me know how it turns out.
I use this polystyrene crown molding everywhere as well. It's pricey compared to wood or mdf, but it's lightweight.
Love it!!!!
Much thanks!
What paint did you use?
I used this paint ➜amzn.to/359ZpBA and it covers everything nicely in one coat. If you want a bright finish you can go with a hi gloss instead of what I used which was a semi gloss. From my experience it is best to pay for high quality paint so you can get better quality coverage with one coast vs several coats with a mediocre finish.
I just bought this for my home, did you find the 3m double sided tape made too big of a gap?
The 3M tape worked just fine with minimal gap which would just be filled with caulking. If you want to reduce the gap further more put the 3M tape a few millimeters below the lip of the edge where it can sit in the groove. This allow for a tight flush install.
Wait - your cost was $7.00 per 6 1/2 piece of polystyrene ???
would led light melt it? I want to use it for led crown molding
It would work perfectly with LED accent lights. LEDs run cool and it takes high heat to melt this material.
Any suggestions on how to deal with the shrinking and expanding causing my joints to crack and seperate? Tired of messing with this stuff. Its kept my project at a stand still trying to figure out what would hold. Ive tried caulk, joint compound and now thinking of using an epoxy but not sure if the heat will cause it to melt. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.
Adhesive
What did you find helpful? I am about to try staple gun
Super helpful video! Kitchen looks great!
Thank you!
I’m trying to find foam molding for tapered dead ends for the top of a fireplace I’m doing. If you can suggest anything that’d be amazing!
Thank you much I appreciate the feedback! Dead ends can be achieved based on your cut. I wish I had a better understanding of your project/layout. There are so many different styles and sizes out there. I buy a bunch of products from Amazon ➜amzn.to/2XzLqCX. You might want to check out Home Depot's website too.
I would like to know the place of available this material
Any hardware store like lowes just for starters
I can
not find the exact one you have...ugh
I wasn't sure about these moldings. Your video convinced me. They should pay you for this (if you are not already getting paid (LOL!)
I wasn't sure either until I installed it myself. I have no regrets. Thanks for the feedback and for watching. I'm not paid by the company that makes these but this is my honest review.

nice
Goodluck to anyone who buys this to find out they have to cope a bunch of inside cuts because of weird angles
its $29 a piece
I purchased mine from Home Depot. 1-1/2 in. x 5-1/2 in. x 78-3/4 in. Polystyrene Crown Moulding than $8 each
It's crazy that anyone would use this product. A true craftsman would never use this. I've been installing crown for years and recently I tried this product and was horrible to work with. Everyone is just trying to make money no matter if there integrity goes out the door
I think I'll pass. Styrofoam is not high on my choice of building materials. This looks like a product for someone who wants it done and cheep. Not something that will look good for a century.
toxic i think?
Absolutely not. It's the same stuff they make cups and plates from. I wouldn't eat from them but there's no fumes. It doesn't get molded, there's no mildew or any other stuff I'm allergic to. Wood is way worse for me.
Please do drop me a message
I believe you can get it from Home Depot's website and look up Nomastyl Crown Moldings. There are similar products on Amazon that I have tried.
