- In what feels like a surprise move to me, @WizKidsOfficial is releasing a set of acrylic 2d minis! This initial set covers all the NPCs and monsters in the D&D Essentials Kit. It's a great affordable alternative to traditional minis and they're also great for those without a lot of room for mini storage. What do you think about these new 2d minis from Wizkids?

The paint issue does make me lean toward saying that the cardstock Pawns that Paizo puts out are still superior to acrylic minis like this.
Certainly more cost effective, even without the paint peeling issue, how embarrassing😬
That wizard was almost completely out of register as well.
Hopefully the peeling image was a preproduction issue and not a big issue in the future.
Oof these looked like a good product especially competitive of skinny mini's but with the product quality doesn't seem good. For about 7 bucks and an hour of your time you could make this in cardstock and tape with penny bases.
They’re sold out on Amazon as of 4:20 PM EDT Oct 16 2020.
Release date is November 4th.
@@ausmax1972 I saw that. I thought they’d be up for pre-order, however.
Amazon also stated they were “out of stock.”
Sounds like Whiz Kids removed them. Probably because of the peeling issue.
I wonder if instead of removing the cover sheet, you cut around each figure with a small knife. This way you can protect the paint on them over the years.
I wanted to get these but that paint getting damaged by the removal process has made me hesitant.
Not sure if its all of them or i just had a fluke, but its worrisome
@@NerdImmersion i guess I will try my luck and see.
It doesn't look like these are being released. Probably due to bad quality control/design of the paint and tape covering the minis.
Have you checked them out recently? They are finally being released after these issues were figured out
@@doms.6701 Really. I guess I will have to check them out. Thanks for the heads up👍
My question is, why does it need the tape? Why can’t they just be packaged with the plastic sheet and then pop them out?
Production efficiencies most likely. I'm guessing that the acrylic is laser cut, the image is printed on then the plastic film is put on over the top before it's packed. So without the plastic film, the figures won't stay in sprue for packing.
This is a good question. I subscribe to Dungeon in a Box and each box has a sheet of acrylic minis. They come on a sprue just like these, but no plastic sheet covers. I've had no issues whatsoever. They stay put in shipping and are easy to snap out. I'm not sure why it's needed.
I already use the Paizo Pawns which are much cheaper in quantity as well the ArchKnight flat plastic minis which are higher quality and a better deal anyway. This is almost too little too late. 2 Orcs? No Goblins, no kobolds, no regular human enemies... No thank you.
I think they have the monsters for the essential starter set
Could use clear packing tape to protect paint. Just don't cover the peg so it still fits the stand. Or a can of clear acrylic paint maybe, test on a lesser piece 1st. Or nail polish hardener/clear coat whatever it's called.
In theory any or all of those should work
I backed a Kickstarter for a similar product, so I hope that doesn't have the same problem as this one.
Yes I am, yes because I have a limited budget and newish to hobby
😲 I was hoping for these to better quality. Not lined up and paint peels off. That is not good enough
If the tap is required for shipping, then it should only be on the acrylic side cause I think I would be less mad with a broken item that I could possibly glue than paint ripped off the mini.
These are great! I have picked up other acrylic ones from another company. These are ready to go too.
I wonder if it would be better to use a razer and cut them out leaving the tape on both sides for added durability to get around the paint peeling issue?
Quite possibly, but once again that would have something to state somewhere on the packaging
@@NerdImmersion Definitely, I'm just trying to think of alternative ideas to suggest on how to open them without the risk of loosing any paint.
I'd love colored bases for these
wtf! don't they seal the minis after painting?
You would think they would have had a vanish over the paint
@@ravingbean9766 Yea, you would. Seems like a bad job if the paint comes off like that..
Right? Either that, or just print on paper first and then seal it with the acrylic
I My thought was not that the paint was wet when they sealed it, but instead it the heat gun or whatever they used to shrink the protective plastic onto it was just too hot and it caused the paint to separate from the acrylic.
Aside from that, for the price I think it's great for it's intended purpose: something to help newer and/or cash strapped players to get things going.
Looks like these just aren't coming out. Not that I specifically was looking forward to this but I knew some people who were looking forward to these to get minis on the cheap
If you do not like them, I would be willing to take them of your hands. It would be an honor to do that for you.
Looks like they just ripped off Arcknight and Dungeon in a Box Skinny Minis. I kickstarter the Skinny Minis and they are awesome.
Vee's video says to peel slowly, I think you are peeling too fast
I have 6 of these but mine came in different packaging and not one had paint peeling issues. I'm just saying.
I like the concept and the price. Being relatively new to hobby I've only recently started picking up miniatures and I'm missing a lot of the enemy/monster types so this could satisfy that itch for a reasonable cost.
I like the potential durability but I would agree with the general concerns regarding damaging the mini's during removal.
Just as a random thought as well how recyclable is acrylic plastics? I like the idea of greater durability but what's the associated cost?
The paint came off in the plastic wrap....nope.
Love them!
Can they be used with skinny mini bases?
oof that is a shame about the paint i was curious about these guys but 14 bucks for gfigures that he pain peels THAT easily on is a pass
Skinny Minis are waaaaaay better!
It could be that Skinny Minis has some copyrights or something involved with the two layers of acrylic and why the paint on the wizkids minis is straight up on the outside
I would prefer something like Pathfinder pawns. I wish they made some for Dee n Dee. The only problem with pawns is if you have moisture in your home the material splits. Lost all my Rise of the Runelord pawns & they don't sell those anymore. Total loss.
Terrible product design with the paint ripping off. Make this ok Gale Force 9.
idk if its my headphone but the audio is a little strange
Not worth it. You can find 2d printable and you can make your own.
A knife would of work better to cut around the minis.
Kinda crap
Pathfinder Pawns are better
Instead of making a statement of opinion, why don’t you list why.
Then the rest of us actually get some value from your statement.
@@gohantanaka wild guess: the paint doesn't peel off and you get 300 pawns for almost the price of two of these sets xp
@@syd4890 see, you’ve given me reasons. Thank you.
Did you really need a reason for why 2d minis that have paint peel off from unpackaging are worse than another 2d mini brand? :l
