I also remember going to the theatre at the mall with friends to see this back in 1985. In the UK, the movie was released a week after "The Goonies" in december. I was not disappointed by both. The 80s were a great time for teen movies. Have you read James King's " Fast Times and Excellent Adventures: The Surprising History of the '80s Teen Movie"? A must and easy-read for Gen Xers, full of anecdotes on movies, actors and how, as teens, we were relentlessly targetted by Hollywood in that wonderful decade....

Spike Lee also expressed his aggravation with Marty McFly influencing Chuck Berry, along with Forrest Gump being the influence for Elvis.

This is my favorite movie of all time and yet I learned a lot about this movie I didn't know. And yeah, there's a lot of thematic/context stuff in the later part of this vid that I didn't really think about until now. Great job making me think a lot about a movie I thought I'd raked over the coals by now!

Wow really good analysis there at the end on the 30/40-year idealization loop. It's been interesting seeing that also fluorish in the rise of synthwave/retrowave, which follows a very particular type of 80s music.Even if the music and artists are new, it still draws on that kind of comfort.

Been listening to Synthwave for over 9 years now. Honestly can't get enough of it. Stuff goes in so many different directions (AOR rock, funk, vaporwave, cyberpunk, saxwave (smooth jazz), sweat wave (80's aerobic dance/training montage style music) and I love it all.

I’ve watched a few of your videos Morgan. I grew up during the 80s and watched all of these movies. Your analysis is really great and I think it’s neat that you name the actors and refer to other related events relative to the film either in the 80s or present time. Thank you for the effort! I enjoy your videos!

Also...Wall Street? It inspired too many of my generation - as in my older sibling and his friends to become Wall Street money guys...

Strickland doesn't call Marty a 'loser' he famously calls him a 'slacker' - C'mon now, that's like quoting Arnie's T800 as saying "I shall return!" 😎
    - For anyone interested here's a classic (fabulously) 1970s episode of *Taxi* - with Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown in BttF) as the drug addled 'priest' Reverend Jim 🤣
ruclips.net/video/-89FbcLgnfc/видео.html (Also Andy Kaufman puts in a good ep with his mechanic 'Latka' in this one too)

There is a fun nostalgia to the 80s for aging genXers like myself, but I've been finding lately just how much good cinema there is when you keep going further back in time.

Great Job!! I really enjoyed your analysis of this film in particular. I do have one suggestion for you for your next one...The Wall... It is so much better to watch when when you are fried. So assuming that you have legal recreational pot...my suggestion is that you relax and enjoy...then watch again and when in your normal state of mine... Just a suggestion.

its not problematic that Marty "invented" rock and roll, because Marty didn't invent it. he played a song that someone else wrote therefore creating an infinite time loop paradox.
its just a joke, lighten up.

Some people really need to "lighten up".
Obviously there's no reason to bring up politics and incorporate 45 into this review, some just can't help themselves. TDS in full effect 😜
