My '21 G310GS is my 11th bike in 52 years of riding. It is my daily rider. No issues with side stand, battery, ANYTHING. Light, frugal, cheap to insure and gets me anywhere on highway or off-road. Great presence on the road, looks like a much bigger bike.
Hi there, thanks for the video. I have my 310GS for about 6 months now and just did over 2000km. Ride both on and off road and also flat out on the freeway with fully loaded top and side boxes. This bike is super impressive for a 310. The vibrations at about 4000rpm in 1st and 2nd seem to damper down as the mileage increases…. Oh, and we definitely have fly by wire on the 310. Keep the videos going …. Rajan. South Africa
I've seen those going around, they arnt perfect, but for new riders they do a good job I think don't they. I hope I meet you sometime. I saw your lot down bridge today👍
I bought the gs this summer and love it. They had an r that I sat on but I definitely like the upright seating and ground clearance my gs has. I think this bike has looks and quality build over the ktm 390 adv. The ktm has more power but costs more and doesn’t look nearly as good. I’m very happy with my 310gs. Excellent review.
I bought a used G310GS because it is really cheap, most people initially bought this bike as a newbie then they felt that they want a bigger bike. I had use many bike over my 45 years of riding and this is my 4th BMW, the last one is the R1200GSA LC One thing for sure this is such a light and fun bike to ride. Pick one up for about 1/2 the current new price with low mileage.
Exhaust coming out of the back.. pretty cool idea!! Very true, most bikes don't have adjustable brake and clutch levers. Novice adventure riders will probably love that bike. Good video Exeter!!
Great video as always. I haven't commented in quite some time, still enjoying the channel very much, though. Still have my 2018 g310gs I bought new. Mine is mostly stock still, still really enjoy it. Best part about 2018 is being able to switch off abs. Anyway, I may finally part with it this next April...we will see. Be well, ER.
neither bike is made in the country that have their hq , honda is not perfect but is way better than any bmw of any price , if you don't believe me follow the warranty trail ;;; but people have to buy something , and as the british bike builders just want to strike these two offerings seem fair game , glad to see you are up and running again and sounding happier .
I'm happy mate, I guess it just how tired I am or how the weeks work on the day job has gone lol Yes Hondas are very good for reliability. The best I think.
It's a really interesting bike, reviews from Nathan Millward are saying the new one is a big improvement over the old. This has been used by wildlens by Abrar to go all over the world, from Germany to Pakistan, toured Pakistan now he's in the middle East. Performed very well, my take is it's the servicing and parts where you pay the premium for the badge. I think they charged him 50-70? Dollars for lubing the chain in the service in Saudi Arabia...but all dealers are like that I suppose. Really interesting, if I was an A2 I'd definitely have it on the list! Thanks again and take care mate! ☺️🖖🏼
Brilliant size bike fits the market it’s after. Not a land yacht. Perfect adventure bike that is very manageable on all counts. I think my next bike may be this one if not Hondas dual sport CRF300LS. I’m 5’1” so both seat heights are manageable for my stature. This is a very capable back roads discovery bike. Love the look of it as well.
1:00 - The LED headlight doesn't have an incandescent filament and doesn't need to be shock mounted. I replaced the halogen headlight in my 2019 G310GS with a very bright LED headlight and I removed the rubber mounts at the same time, replacing them with stainless fender washers to rigidly mount the LED headlight so it doesn't have that very annoying (and potentially dangerous) flicker. 6:15 - I agree that BMW marketing considers the G310GS as a beginner bike to get new riders on the upgrade path to a more expensive BMW bike, and that's a shame. Many older riders don't want a big behemoth bike., and older riders usually have more discretionary income. BMW should make a lightweight but full featured premium ADV bike, but the BMW Motorrad marketing department is focused on selling young people their first motorcycle and they aren't interested in selling pensioners their last motorcycle. 11:20 - The first G310GS model year was 2017, so it's been around for seven years, not ten years. Also, the scrolling specs earlier in the video claimed a 12L fuel capacity and it's actually 11 liters. It's interesting that you complain about the fork dive from the soft suspension but repeatedly praise the G310GS for the soft suspension that eats up bumps on the road. I love the soft and fairly long travel suspension. If I was younger and rode hard off road, I'd have a proper dual sport with longer and stiffer suspension, but the G310GS suspension is great for road riding and mild off road. It's possible to ride over logs and ruts off road but not at high speed. I love the baby GS. Based on the number I'm seeing and the fact that BMW doesn't seem to be promoting it at all lately, I conclude that the G310GS is a big seller for BMW Motorrad. I wish they'd introduce an upscale G310GS Adventure with a 5 gallon fuel tank, aluminum bash plate, engine protection bars, larger and more aggressive off road foot pegs, tubeless spoke wheels, and maybe some common add-ons such as a dual high current USB charging port, windshield, folding mirrors, hand protecting brush guards, heated grips, larger foot on the kickstand, etc. Of all of my wish list, the larger fuel tank was the only thing I was unable to find in the after market, although I kept the original alloy wheels which are fine for the old man riding that I do.
Thanks for your views, just so you know as I understand it, BMW started selling/importing these in 2012 but they were withdrawn due to quality issues with the bike manufacturers, So there was a slow time for 2 years while that was ironed out. Then slow drip fed back in again but still wasn't sorted until about 2016 ish but then only gave them a push from 2018 or so onwards. It was a messy start, then of course we had the side stand recalls along the way. Thanks for watching.
@@exeterrider - Soon after posting, I read on Wikipedia that the TVS early prototype version of the G310GS was the K03 in 2013, and the bike went into early production in Brazil as the G310GS Stunt, but I'm not sure if either of those are what you are referring to as a 2012 version that was withdrawn. It's also not unusual for Wikipedia to be wrong. However you slice it, the G310GS had a rocky start for sure. I got a good deal on my 2019 G310GS because it was one of the new bikes that was recalled for the kickstand issue as well as possibly a stator issue. It was returned to the dealer late in 2020 a few months before the 2021 models were to be released with some improvements such as LED lighting and a slipper clutch, but also full time ABS that can't be turned off so I'm glad to have the 2019, and doubly glad to have gotten $1400 knocked off the price. My three year factory warranty only has a couple of more months left on it and it's been 100% trouble free. After the rocky start, the G310GS seems to be a big hit for BMW. It's an affordable Do It All bike that's fun and confidence inspiring. It's not my perfect bike, but it suits my needs and wants better than any other bike I've seen. On the few occasions I've ridden on the interstate it would be nice if it was a 400 or 450 cc bike, but mostly I just wish it had a 5 gallon fuel tank. Everything else I wanted was fairly easy to upgrade with after market parts.
Good to hear you had no issues. They are good bikes, under marketed though....over here BMW don't really get out to us youTubers which they are missing a trick I think. Thanks
@@exeterrider - In the US, BMW Motorrad doesn't seem to market the G310GS at all. I assume that's because it's selling itself and doesn't need any marketing, or they don't want G310GS sales to compete with their larger ADV bikes. Their marketing efforts are aimed at moving the R18 freight train and their electric scooters. We're told the new CE02 isn't a scooter. "It's an eParkourer." I guess marketing research indicated that most people aren't going to pay US$10,000 for a scooter, but at least it's thousands of dollars less than the more capable CE04. I love BMW design and manufacturing but I hate their marketing. Their ads barely show a quick glimpse of the bike. The lifestyle ads focus on sexy fun young people dancing and inline skating through edgy urban architecture. My other issue with BMW marketing is their ADV focus. They see the G310GS as a beginner bike in western countries. Their goal is to get beginning riders onto the baby GS so they can up sell them on an 850GS in a couple of years and a 1300GS as soon as the last payment is made on the 850GS. Small lightweight adventure bikes are ideal for older riders who typically have more disposable income, but BMW Motorrad's marketing department doesn't want to sell me the last bike I'll ever buy regardless of the profit margin. They're too busy marketing to young riders who can be exploited for future sales. This isn't exclusively a BMW problem. It seems that all motorcycle manufacturers see their small ADV bikes as a way to leverage customers into a proper full size adventure bike, even though the G310GS is easier to ride off road where most of us dream of adventure. At least we finally have small ADV bikes as of the last decade. I've been wanting a lightweight ADV bike since the mid 1970s. I wish BMW made a G310GS Adventure, with a 5 gallon (19 liter) fuel tank, aluminum bash plate, engine protection bars, fully adjustable front and rear suspension and tubeless spoke wheels. That would probably add less than $400 to their cost and I'd pay $1500 more for that bike... and maybe $2000 more.

You seem well impressed with the small GS, ER. I suppose like most manufactured items you can get the Friday night or Monday morning product. An acquaintance bought a 310 GS which spent most of its time at the dealers. When he did manage to venture out on it it fell over onto a grassy verge and, believe it or not, twisted the forks. @@exeterrider I recall he mentioned fuelling issues, a warped clutch basket, rear wheel bearing, and of course the twisted forks. I don't think he had any coolant or battery issues. He only had the bike for 10 months before selling it on. The faults were all rectified under warranty apart from the twisted forks which the dealer said was down to the owner's negligence.
I love the look of this bike.....but the KTM 390 is just more capable and punchy....and looks pretty good itself. I feel like BMW isn't even trying to make it competitive with the KTM 390.
A lovely review. Was tempted years ago. Wonder how difficult to get hold of. Still can't get up close and personal to a Honda NC 750x. I can order one, with no promises of an actual delivery date. But maybe take another look at the 22 model of this

Ironicly, everytime I find time to ride one , the loan bike has been sold, but it is on the list to be done next! It's just the wheather situation for filming to contend with now. I like the look of them and I'm a fan of the 500 engine. I will see what I can do.

Rally raid make a kit for it... I think the Enfeild stuff would still win though...I also would prefer a himy or scram now, but the 310 has its place for many other new riders.
@@exeterrider it would be a few grand to get it near where the CFR is stock, spend that on top of a stock CRF and it's almost Ideal for off road and long distance travel. Check out mad TV CRF build, really something special
Yes, very true, the crf does feel more off road biast though where as the 310 works better as a 50/50 in my opinion. I wouldn't like riding a crf on road as much as I would a 310gs. Thanks mate
I have ridden all three...I own a 2014 G 650 GS and test rode the 2023 G 310 GS yesterday and the 310 R the day before. The 650 GS is a much more powerful bike, and it's noticeably heavier than the other two. Granted the 2023 has a slipper clutch and ride-by-wire throttle, so it's smoother and easier in terms of throttle and clutch control. Both the 310 R and the 310 GS have the same engine, but the bikes handle differently. The R is so fun - so nimble and just a blast. The 310 GS is taller and has a more upright seating position, with longer suspension travel and noticeable diving at the front when braking. The gearing is different between the 310 and 650, obviously. I'm a newer rider and I bought the 650 as my first bike,....it's a lot of bike, which is why I'm likely selling it and getting the smaller 310 (still deciding between the R and the GS). The 310 GS is 5.3" shorter in length than the 650, about 8 inches shorter in height, about 40 pounds lighter (but feels even lighter), has half the fuel tank capacity (also makes it lighter), and has a wheelbase that's about 2.5 inches shorter. The 310 R has even smaller dimensions than the 310 GS. I ended up buying a Yamaha XT250 to do dirt stuff, and am getting a street bike for the road - just need to choose between the GS and the R.
I just bought a 2023 model. I have been riding for 45 years and I am mainly a BMW rider. This bike is very much fun to ride. I am going to be finishing the TransAmerica Trail on this bike.

I see where your coming from but they are more reliable than the KTM and the dealership service from BMW is second to none. KTMs are getting to be more risky buys year on year.
Yes agreed mate, I'm probably not coming across correctly....My view on it is its a 50/50 split. What I mean is that its good on road and not bad at offroad as well. Although like the 900XR , the engine does lack that "something", but for a newbie, they dont have anything to compare it too.
TVS Motor Company's Hosur manufacturing plant is responsible for producing 10% of BMW Motorrad's volumes globally. Exports of the BMW G 310 R and BMW 310 GS motorcycles commenced in December 2016 from TVS's Hosur plant. About as BMW as a curry! 🇮🇳

@@jimsadler8704 Thanks for heads up, yes I have reported them and they have been removed......damn spammers!
@@jimsadler8704 jeez, not good!
I've been riding Harley for the last 30 years. Now all I want is a lightweight fun bike that can take me down a dirt road and back home at 100kph.
This is perfect Garth👍🍻
I fill the same I have a fatboy lightweight bike sounds fun picking mine up tomorrow
310GS is Amazing with its Rode quality and some limited but necessary features.
Great first big bike ER,I think it looks amazing, and u get the BMW brand.
Yeap , then move onto the bigger stuff once you have learnt the "craft". Thanks James
Why the bigger stuff?
Nice video buddy 😊
Thanks Sir
@@exeterrider By the way buddy you should watch this you tube video 😎 It's absolute Motorcycling porn 😀

Looks like the BMW r850r can make it off-road as well. Nice review. 👍👍
For sure, yes. Thanks for watching 👍
I love the look of this bike.....but the KTM 390 is just more capable and punchy....and looks pretty good itself. I feel like BMW isn't even trying to make it competitive with the KTM 390.
Your right, it's in its own league really.
Not a bad bike, the KTMs can be hit and miss
A lovely review. Was tempted years ago. Wonder how difficult to get hold of. Still can't get up close and personal to a Honda NC 750x. I can order one, with no promises of an actual delivery date. But maybe take another look at the 22 model of this
They are total different bikes Ian, I think the 850GS would suit you more...much the same power as the NC...worth looking in to.
AHH definitely worth a look, thank you
Mmm, like it. Any chance of a review of the F750 GS some day. The bigger brother of the 310 and smaller brother of the 1250GS.
Derek
Should do mate, I have one waiting but just time to be able to do it .
@@exeterrider Look forward to that when you do it.
if you're not going fast, first or second speed on bumps or uneven roads, does the chain behind you make claps on the pendulum?
No it's fine. Maybe it needs adjustment?
Nice one mate 👍
👍
Another great review. Was looking through your earlier reviews and noticed you haven't done a review on the beneli trk 502 x ? Is there a reason why you haven't ridden one?
Ironicly, everytime I find time to ride one , the loan bike has been sold, but it is on the list to be done next! It's just the wheather situation for filming to contend with now. I like the look of them and I'm a fan of the 500 engine. I will see what I can do.
@@exeterrider theres a theme going on here. I also have been trying to get to ride one , no local dealers have one on demo ,all been sold 🤔🤣.
I know of 3 in my local area. Are you local to me Jim?
@@exeterrider iam derby Nottingham area
Near my mate quinn Peaks Rider..... There are 3 avaliable and a demo down here. Not much help to you but they do send nation wide. Shame you can't come down to try one.
Bro takes us through some tuff terrines so that we can understand better about the GS310.
I quite like it. Perhaps they should do a rally version with more off road spec. I’d like that 👍🏼
Rally raid make a kit for it... I think the Enfeild stuff would still win though...I also would prefer a himy or scram now, but the 310 has its place for many other new riders.
Oh interesting 👍🏼
@@exeterrider it would be a few grand to get it near where the CFR is stock, spend that on top of a stock CRF and it's almost Ideal for off road and long distance travel. Check out mad TV CRF build, really something special
Yes, very true, the crf does feel more off road biast though where as the 310 works better as a 50/50 in my opinion. I wouldn't like riding a crf on road as much as I would a 310gs. Thanks mate
We have a BMW one up at Westpoint 22 plate.
Happen to know what hand guards were added to the bike?
Original BMW ones, as is the bash gaurd and crash bars 👍
How do you think BMW G310GS /r compares to BMW G650GS. In regards to power to weight.
@@Wagongirl01 I ended up with the Aprilia Pegaso Trail 650 2007
I just bought a 2023 model. I have been riding for 45 years and I am mainly a BMW rider. This bike is very much fun to ride. I am going to be finishing the TransAmerica Trail on this bike.
@stevehoward3981 wow that's amazing mate. Good news your enjoying it👍
This is the bike that made me want to start biking again...unfortunately I never did get one..
Its not too late, it never is. It will change your life for the better : )
@@exeterrider well I had a test ride on a RE meteor last week and I think I'll be getting one of them (plus I don't have a local BMW dealer near me)
The Meteor is a good choice mate. If you like lazy ,steady rides and a bike that is stunning to look at then RE wins!
@@exeterrider I sat on the meteor and felt like it was part of me that made my.mind up
Nice little bike that.
Good entry to a 1250 Andy.
How do you think it compares to a CB500X in terms of a good all rounder? Say for Devon Roads?
Chalk and Cheese, This is a good starter bike but overall I think the 500x would win if it was mainly on road work to be done.
@@exeterrider - interesting…. I get the impression are a lot of 350cc coming onto the market. Maybe 500cc hits the mark though… (hark at me with my 1250cc - I’m thinking about the future when I downsize. @@petewebb6952 BSA 650 sounds good, infact , the 310 is a Rotax engine, same as the BSA

Mmm I like the wheels ER but I think I would go for the Scram probably not quite as well made but I guess it´s all a matter of taste cheers 👍👌
I think I would too now, but this would be good for a young starter rider bike. in 2018 I nearly bought one but the Scram wasnt about then. Hope your well mate.
@@exeterrider Thanks yeh enjoying the heat 👍
Throttle is indeed "ride by wire"....
👍
I truly this bike and its brother the G300r are 80cc’s short of being a more stylish and best quality alternative to the KTM 390. It’s a shame.
I see where your coming from but they are more reliable than the KTM and the dealership service from BMW is second to none. KTMs are getting to be more risky buys year on year.
A really handsome bike, but not as swift as my KTM 390 Duke. It's a shame the GS isn't a 400/450. I like the dash. The wheels look good.
Good review.
Swift maybe not, but buyers won't be bothered by that, the BMW dealer network is the closer of the deal.
Thanks mate ,Yes its a good bike if off-road is more your thing.
@@johnrocker2986 BMW service ....although you pay for it, is really good.
@@exeterrider I deviate on that issue, I would say the G310GS is more road than trail.
Yes agreed mate, I'm probably not coming across correctly....My view on it is its a 50/50 split. What I mean is that its good on road and not bad at offroad as well. Although like the 900XR , the engine does lack that "something", but for a newbie, they dont have anything to compare it too.
The suspension love it...engine just sufficient...gearshift...absolutely terrible...gives your left toe a nightmare...ans never fond the neutral....😂

It actually started in 2012 but then released in 2014 in the UK due to a few complications....thats for another video😉
@@exeterrider Yes, TVS in India required further investment but supplied units of all variants other markets other than the UK & Ireland. Despite popular belief, the UK is not the most important.

@@exeterrider Could be wrong but I think Bajaj in India will be making the new "small" Triumphs, they already make some Kawasakis that are sold in Asia. When it came out here a few months later the price was nearly £2000 more than my off the cuff conversion!! Ever get the feeling we're being stiffed in this country?

good video, but why don't you take your helmet off when you talk
Hi thanks, it takes a lot of setting up to get the sound right and adds a few minutes to the set up, I had to get the bike back this day and was very tight on time sadly. I agree though 👍
BMW by badge only! 🇮🇳
Yes, but it still works well
nice until i sat on one like sitting in a big hole, and theres bwm serviceing yeah, bmw prices honda cb500x much better, and much longer serviceing gaps.

Huge price difference though
In my opinion, you made the right decision to buy the Honda CB300R over this BMW 310GS.
The BMW is ugly compared to the Honda CB300R.
Thanks John, yes the 300 is actually a really nice looking bike. I also think in hindsight I made the right decision even though the BMW would have opened up new doors fir offroading 👍Thanks 👍🍻🎄
they look cheap from any angle i am sorry...hope they are better when riding.
They are OK mate, I know where your coming from but for 5.5k then they are fine, but yes the 850GS is much better but thats over 10k : /
Accelerator on a bike?? from someone who's supposed to know bikes . It's a throttle
Yes I know , just a mix up of words ,nothing more, no biggy.
The headlight unit is loose "to protect the electronics"...? Seriously?😂 Oh, so the Vstrom, CB500X, Versys, Himalayan, etc. (Which all have fixed, solid headlights) can expect to all have failed headlights and electronics faults eventually then? Because they failed to make them loose and wobbling like the wise people at BMW did? Er... Okaaaay... 😆 😂😂
Yeah I know it's a bit odd.
My point read really is that people used to say it's loose but infact it's meant to move 👍🍻
How do you think BMW G310GS /r compares to BMW G650GS. In regards to power to weight.
Never ridden the 650 but I did have the Voge 650ds for a month.
For me the engine ruined what could have been a good bike. It was more bulky than the 310.
If you can reached the price range then go for a 850gs. They are really good bikes 👍
