Drill of the Week #3. Low register exercise to promote MAXIMUM tone production in the low register. Specifically helps with overcoming resistance in the 'valves'.
One disclaimer, beautiful tone is not the goal. Not quite. Maximum dynamic is. However, if you can get to this point and then back off 10-15% then the sound WILL be beautiful and EFFORTLESS. Hope that clarifies things for you all.
I really want to do this exercise, but I've only got a three valve BBb. I can manage the fake tones, but is it even worth it to try and complete this bad boy? I'll eventually have a tuba with enough valves (four, so B natural no), but otherwise, yeah...Suggestions?
Hey Chris! I have an idea for a drill of the week. Could you make a low register study that focuses on tone and air control in the low/pedal register? I know us tuba players have snedecors and bordogni's down an octave, but any exercises you do that helps with this would I think greatly benefit us players who don't have a naturally great low register.

Chris, your spot on as I do something very similar. These will really help in developing control, this is my favorite video you have. Nice job.
It cracked me up when you casually called Gene Pokorny by his first name only. I don’t know why but I found it very amusing.
He does it all the time lmao
Nice video Chris
this is a very good exercise thanks for sharing
very good friend you can help me, what mouthpiece I choose to play in the low register, I have a tuba 4/4 4 pistons bb?
