@notthegoodgirl I had to stop the video about a subject I didn't think I was interested in to commend you for the immense amount of work and research this must have taken. I saw the time and thought there would be no way I would sit through this but the opposite is proving true I'm an hour and 20 minutes in. I'm sure you get a lot of compliments, as you should ,but it never hurts imo to show gratitude for someone else's work. You are quickly becoming high on my mental list of favourite RUclipsrs, for what it's worth. Best wishes to you and yours.

It's completely insane that Tom Cruise is out here acting in blockbuster movies and isn't generally considered a canceled or problematic celebrity, when his wife had to arrange an escape to a safehouse while he was overseas in order to divorce him

As a legal editor, I've seen a lot of people who should be cancelled or were attempted to be cancelled survive. It is a simple reason. Once you reach a specific threshold of fame or money, you can only fail up. You can only keep succeeding no matter what illegal things you do. You can actually pay off some sentencing for white collar crimes as well, like legally pay it off and never serve (little known fact to people outside that tax bracket.) Just like some of the multi billionaire CEOs who do unspeakable things, he'll just keep getting away with it because of his fame, money, and power.
And, sadly, (not in Tom's case but in some people's) you can just be born at that level of fame/money. The children of the top 1% do some crazy shit and never get nailed for it.

I genuinely think one day he’s going to get what’s coming to him. Even if it’s going to come out in his 80s, one day it will come out. There’s already too much info out there for him and the church to get off completely scot-free. Especially the fact that Shelly may be imprisoned or even more likely, unalived. I also get the feeling that there’s A LOT more to Tom’s involvement with the church. Tom has this look in his eyes that just always seemed off to me. He always felt disingenuous to me. I can’t even imagine what he’s hiding 😮‍💨

The reason why tom cruise isn't cancelled yet, is probably because so many other rich and powerfull people in holywood are scientologists as well.
And those people who like to cancel everyone for using a wrong pronoun or tweeting that people who menstruate are women, are never going to cancel themselves aren't they?

Correction Tom cruise is not acting in blockbuster movies, the movies are becoming blockbusters because of his acting.
Frankly speaking there is nothing wrong with having a religion, every single religion has done some questionable ish, in the name of purity.
Tom appears to me, as an intelligent individual who respects and loves his art. Which stands to reason that it is more than likely, Tom has not experienced the church as the rest of the members have.
It appears to me, that Tom is more of an ambassador, so much so that, he thinks/believes the treatment he is receiving is similar to the treatment other members are receiving, but just not as high profile given his status .
And again he appears to be at the very top, emphasis on the word appears, however his position only allows him access to the type of servitude he can have.
Aside from being in control of his service executors (slavez from the church, I can't think of the word but you get the idea) , moving on..... he doesn't have the authority to know the inner workings of the church, because his only role in the church is to be an ambassador. Basically it's glitters masquerading as gold .
Ambassadors don't have power, their job is to attract traffic, by advertising that they are a part of this establishment. Therefore, the treatment an ambassador gets is very different from the treatment a consumer will get...
To put it simply Tom is just the advertisement aiming to bring more money (people) to the church.
At the end of the day who says no to free stuff. 😅

It's difficult to distinguish a cult from a religion - they exist on a spectrum. The more controlling a religion is the more culty it becomes. There's also a bias against new religions. It's easier to recognize a culty new age religion than an culty Christian organisation. As such I don't think that "cults" should be illegal. Criminal organisations - that's a completly different story
There're many Churches which should be considered criminal and persecuted. Any organisation which hides and protects s predators is evil. So many Churches do it but goverment is afraid of a backlash if they tried to do anything about that

It isn't seen as scientology "holding people against thier will", in the "church." Once a person gets indoctrinated they see the RPF as necessary to fix the problem (ruin) inside them.
I believe that the only legal aspect of the situation is the Non Disclosure Agreement itself. It is a legal document signed in exchange for thier freedom. What is illegal is the Fee they charge Sea Org members to leave to "pay back for the free lessons they received."
Also, the fact scientology has tax exempt status and is defined as a religion make it legally difficult to take action against them on a federal level.

Legal editor here. You can sue for anything, but that doesn't mean the lawsuit will not get thrown out for being invalid. NDA's cannot legally protect a company/person from sharing information on acts that are federally illegal. That doesn't mean someone will not sue. Typically, they will sue hoping you'll cave because you can't afford representation. If that doesn't work they keep refiling or appealing until dismissed WITH prejudice. And, even in those cases, they often just sue for something new. It is called a slap suit. It is meant to drive someone's funds to zero so they'll give up and be forced into silence or compliance. Few states have laws that protect against slap suits. Companies use them often against people, even for things as simple as posting honest reviews on products. Working in class action, I see companies try to keep flying appeals until a judge refuses the allowance of appeals, as a way of doing slap appeals, which is the countersuit version.

Ive listened to Leah Remini talk about it and what shocked me the most is that members (anyone lower than Tom Cruise's status which is a lot of people), have to work for free for the church to like..pay their dues. Even if theyre famous with the worlds strictest schedule, they have to make up their hours of work in the church, no excuses, and they have to pay to do it.
Those rules apply for children too, which are seen as 'little adults' by the church and treated as such. The rules start early on, and no one (apart from the top top levels) are immune to mistreatment.
Apparently Tom Cruise is so deep into it that he acts like hes some sort of Royalty. Hes reached the level where he has pretty much total control. Youre not allowed to just go up and talk to him, even if youre his friend, if youre in Scientology and you rank lower than him. You have to address him as authority. Its so...bizzare.
I feel like hes purely in it to tickle his ever hungry ego. Hes rich, he put in his work, hes at the top, he gets power, adoration, everything. I can see how a man like him would be drawn to that and not wanna leave.
I also understand why a lot of the members are celebrities or high up people. Rich people will pay billions just to feel something, they are the only people stupid enough to pay to be a part of this mess created by a f*cking science fiction writer. 😭

Do you remember when she had some higher ranking people who left organization and they talked about how David would threaten to bring Tom in to beat people for him because he knew jujitsu? I don’t know what our societies obsession with Tom Cruise is, but we really need to look at him as an individual and come to the conclusion that he’s not that great, and that any film that he’s in probably has ties financially to Scientology. He doesn’t do any film without it being read by Scientology members, and he always surrounded by them. If we see his movies, you’re paying Scientology.

A real church would not come between a marriage, in fact they try to encourage people to stay together. I think Tom had a crush on Mimi when he was just starting in acting, she introduced him unfortunately to Scientology. Once Tom made it as a big star, then Scientology gave Tom whatever he wanted without many rules. It is hypocritical. If Tom wanted Nicole, he got her, except he cannot keep a woman, he is too flaky. They treat him with kid gloves while the rest of the cult are being extorted for money. It is about exploiting people in return for nothing. As a bit of back story, I'd gone to a fundamentalist church in my childhood, mostly because it was the closest church to where we lived. My parents were moral people, but not religious. I soon figured out that church was full of hypocrites, teaching a bunch of stuff that didn't make a lot of sense, but kept going mostly because they had a fantastic summer camp, lol.
Anyway, these gals sounded so much like that church, alarm bells were ringing. I made an excuse as to why I couldn't go in that day but said I'd stop by in the next day or so. I got away from there and never walked on that block again.

For example the church I grew up going to would help members pay their bills to avoid shut offs of electricity or gas for sick or elderly members. They provided clothes and food to the homeless. But also Scientology is the only "religion" I know of that charges for the services which is the main reason I don't think they deserve tax exempt status. That would be like church charging a cover charge in order to get in to hear the sermon. Tax exempt status is given to churches and non profit organizations because they provide a service to the community according to the qualifications for tax exempt status.

Even though I have seen endless hours of content covering Scientology, this was really engaging from start to finish. Thank you for speaking out about them and the abuse they perpetuate. What really gets to me about them is the lack of humanity, the lack of empathy and compassion. In "going clear" you have to lose your willingness and ability to empathize with other people, and I think that's really sad. One of the best things about humanity is our ability to empathize and show kindness- it is a strength, not a weakness. It makes our relationships, our spirit, our society better.

Honestly what really kills me is that the very bare bones basic idea behind Dianetics - that something from your past is making you act or feel this way - is not necessarily wrong, but then everything ends they do after that pretty much is wrong. It makes sense that maybe some people would experience some relief by exploring and working through their past traumas, and that's probably how they first get pulled in. Then, from there, it all just gets more and more wild.

    • @shalalala4875
      @shalalala4875 4 месяца назад +6

Right? Like if therapy was less stigmatized, more widespread and accessible, a lot of people would be safer, healthier and happier. Less likely to get wrapped up into stuff like this. Because you're right, dianetics does offer people the practice of self reflection and to look at their own thoughts and feelings- there is a nugget of truth in that that is important for growth as a person. But the way they weaponize that and use it to keep the followers complicit and as blackmail later on is really sad. All those people drawn in by the desire for understanding and growth really would have benefited from some therapy. We are all looking for something. Thankfully therapy in this generation is a lot less stigmatized than it was when I was growing up, and a ton different than my parent's generation.

damn... The more I learn about Tom Cruise's relationship with Scientology, the more I feel like he was manipulated and abused for decades by the Church. Not abused in the sense that he was treated badly, but his life is controlled so tightly by the people in charge that he really has no idea what reality actually is beyond what they feed him. I used to joke that Tom Cruise, as his career progresses, seemed to get more and more into his own head and how wonderful and awesome he was. But it's no wonder he would be like that when he hasn't actually experienced the reality since he was probably in his 20s. Not that he isn't problematic in his behaviour or responsible for the way he's treated most of the women in his life, but damn... A few years back I watched a program on RUclips explaining how that happened. Basically, scientology sent their people into the IRS (as employees) and worked it from there.

I read Jenna Miscavige's (david miscavige's niece) book about her escape and it was truly horrifying & very detailed on how kids grow up there working like adults and having no childhoods or autonomy. And much more. Excited to listen to this video. I cannot believe this cult is allowed to just operate freely and ruin lives

What a masterpiece! I've been following the Scientology world since Going Clear the book came out, and you have done such a good job of collating a TON of information without muddling the story - which frequently happens. It's obvious you did a TON of research and worked really hard on this. Brava, Josie, this is your best video yet. 🎉

Real pious of them

I think Shelley's dead. David killed her many years ago in one of his fits of rage. That's my theory. If she was alive, they could produce her. We may never know the truth though.

Yes, it is either that or they're confining her permanently in "the hole" or some other place of incarceration. Those are the only plausible explanations, but I suspect it is indeed death (murder).

    Great documentary!
So this cult was invented by a cruel narcissist, is now lead by another cruel narcissist and enables abusers by degrading victims and blaming them for what happened. Great, that seem to be really nice people!
So happy for Leah that she managed to find her way out and her family stood with her! She is a really though and strong person.
