reminds me of when i first started producing music (before I learned to play anything!) and finding out that so many instruments hit WAY lower than even the lowest tuned guitar and are designed to. oboe....tuba... like so many. first time hearing a "new low" is always great, but they should be there by design, not choice. :P this is why the joke goes that modern metal doesn't need a bass player anymore cause the guitarists are taking over the role themselves at this point.

Shadow of Intent, Animals as Leaders, Jason Richardson, Shokran, Capstan, Avenged Sevenfold, Berried Alive, Rings of Saturn, Cane Hill, just a few modern metal bands that are filled to the BRIM with solos ALL the time. Solos are not losing popularity, people just found out they can do other things that have a greater impact than solos all the time.

Ha! I saw the original song, was hilarious but also a genuinely wicked song. Also love seeing the pitchproof plugin popping up in stuff, I've been using it for years, though I actually crank it up to +12 and put in low in the mix, even for playing heavy riffs. It sounds awesome and makes sure you keep clarity of what you're playing, even with loads of distortion.
Collabing with Nik to make incoherent metal noises is something I'd pay to see. Glad to see you and Nik being such good sports about the very obvious joke too. Keep up the hard work man

I loved the video! Do people not get sarcasm anymore...or is the media just that desperate for a story?
On one hand I understand when people don't understand sarcasm through the internet, but on the other hand there are clear signs that it's satire. Not only that but it stands to reason that if you criticize something, you don't do a killer job at using it to prove a point - that's advertising. How does this escape the understanding of so many people?
I dunno. I thought the song was just such obvious satire. I wanted to headbang but I was laughing too hard the first time I saw the video.

Modern metal is traaaaaaaash..
Metal hasn't been good since the 90s.. It had potential in the late 00s.. But then quickly got worse again..
Just growl vocals, guitars tuned to low.. Uninteresting shredding with no real melody.. No personality in the album recordings... Still suffering loudness war levels on records as well ruining the sound quality further.
I've just lost interest with Metal because there's just nothing for anyone that is a fan of the genre up to the early 00s.. The last 2 decades have been awful outside of a handful of legacy bands.. Megadeth for example are still kicking ass.. But its a sad state of things when we are having to rely on older bands like Megadeth to deliver what we want and that the genre itself is off in the weeds making this increasingly uninspired and uninteresting crap.
I don't know the original video, but I tend to agree. Tune down to the bottom of the pits of hell and then just go 0 0 0 00 0 0 0 00 0. You are now a rockstar. 🤣

Remember, some of the heaviest tracks EVER recorded have been in Standard tuning. Iron Maidan, Judas Priest, Ozzy, and the list goes on. Back then, just dropping your low E to a D was the lowest you ever went. Then guys like Dimebag went to C+ and the train was rolling. I personally don't give a shit about the actual tuning, it's what's done with it is what matters.

I must admit that I do not solo. However, that is mostly because I suck at them 🤦🏻♂️....currently. Also, as I previously stated, most bands have killed the solo for me. VERY few people/bands keep it interesting or even listenable. But hey, that's me. Honestly, though, if I had Bernth's skill set I would solo all the time.
I like both you and Nik Nocturnal. I'm not a natural musician. My background is as a "hard rock" vocalist. But I've recently started learning to play bass to help with writing and I've been expanding my knowledge of music theory and tone to help when writing with other musicians and recording. I wanted to say thank you for creating your channel. Both you and Nik have been very helpful in teaching me things (intentionally or not) that I might never have learned without you doing what you do.

To be fair though, its on a 30" baritone and not a 8/9/10 string guitar and I also play in multiple other tunings. Mostly in drop C and drop A, but I also play in plain old normal E standard and multiple alternative tuning. I ADORE MinAdd9 tunings.
I love both equal, but not one over the other. Too much modern low AF 0-0-0-1-0-0-0 riffs are boring, and also too mucho senseless shredding is boring too. So the perfect match betweeen both of them is perfect. I'd love to see a collab between you and Nik... just saying...

I've personally never been drawn to shred. I've always liked really groovy riffs. Shred is always impressive, but it's never connected for me.
I don't know why, but it seems like more and more people are becoming allergic to the term "shredding." Even when I checked out some Polyphia interviews, they were afraid to use the word. But... they do shred. The musical term 'shred' has nothing to do with whether or not something is tasteful or melodic or whatever. I think more people are thinking that this term automatically refers to something soulless and mechanical. While there are many examples of such, there are also many examples of good musical shredding. I'm sorry but there's some feelings that simply cannot be conveyed at a slow pace. Give me the energy. Give me the passion. But I do still want it to be tasteful and meaningful. And my opinion is that those like BERNTH are doing a fine job of keeping true shredding alive and enjoyable. I also recommend checking out Extreme's latest songs. They aren't flat out metal, but their guitarist Nuno Bettencourt throws it down with tasty high caliber skill and speed, and even goes to show that shredding is capable of thriving in other genres.

Define modern metal? Most ppl will answer tht modern metal is metal tht’s modern, but tht’s a very bland way of defining what modern metal even is if the ppl defining it do not already know tht death metal came from the late 80’s and became more popular during the early 90’s. When u know tht, u can’t say tht “zoo noises” is a modern metal thing, bc bands hve been doing tht since the 1980’s.

Well, I know how this is gonna sound, but I can go both ways with a collab not because I don't like nik, I do, I just don't really have enough of a preference on collabs 😆 but, I got the joke of the video, and whether it was a joke or not, it was badass. And, that's coming from someone who is trying to shred, but also keeps tuning low, but that's rare, I usually stay in D standard tuning.

I got the joke, but there's a point to be made that many modern metal guitarists revolve around the lowest detuned notes and it becomes redundant Dimebag Darrell once thought a 7-string was pointless when you could accomplish much with just a 6-string. He saw that bands like Korn just focused mostly on the bottom strings while ignoring the others.
