- In the 1960's dozens of the top musical acts did radio commercials for Coca Cola and their "Things Go Better With Coke" campaign. Often they did more than one song. The ads were produced by McCann-Erickson, the real agency who were the primary competition to the fictional agency in Mad Men. This radio spot was taken directly from an original 1/4" reel to reel. The video is made of clips from a 1963 concert which was broadcast in Brazil.
What caught my ear was that very brief 3 note choir chorus (the third note sounded like a flat) starting at 00:54. I would love to hear a whole choir song based on those 3 notes. Reminiscent of Bernstein's 'One hand, one heart' from West Side Story.
Hi,
Thank you very much for uploading this - I've never heard a version this long, nor that shout in the beginning. Does that tape carry a date?
It would be marvelous if you'd add the second Ray Charles commercial ["I'm So Tired (It's Been A Long Journey]" or whatever else is on that reel!
+Bob Stumpel Yes the tape has a copyright date of 1967. It also has a catalog/index number of AT-129. And yes I will be adding the :90 version of the second spot as well, hopefully soon.
He would switch to Diet Pepsi in the 80s...
