I think I found a candidate for most useless item - Broken Pole. It's only use is as a hint on the Mountain Daughter quest. Which means that even though it's technically a quest item, it is not meant to be used in the quest.
I absolutely love this type of content! Magnet isn't useless. a magnet is actually used in three quests - Witch's house, fremmy trials and recruitment drive.
The magnets in both Trials and Recruitment Drive are two separate items that are both useless distractions, while the magnet in Witch's House is a separate third item needed to progress.
I can't bring myself to sell them for something cheaper with lower stats. I have full Masori (f) with Zaryte vambraces, and if I was wearing blessed d'hide, my OCD would be like "your BIS setup is missing something. You're wearing cheap gear" So a one-time purchase to take away that nagging voice in my head is definitely worth it 😂
@Mr_Spaghetti I'm not a guy, but I also didn't know that was actually a thing. I play RuneScape a lot but I don't always interact with the community, so I'm not aware of the memes. I only found out about "Angler Gloves" last night, even though I've been playing the game for 20 years.
I think the Golden Hammer, Golden Tinderbox, Golden pot, and the 3 other golden items from Priest in Peril deserve a mention. They serve no purpose, aren't tradable, can't be used like the normal version, aren't relevant to the quest they are obtained during, aren't acknowledged during the quest, and can't be re-obtained after the quest is over. At best, they're an interesting easter egg.

I only just figured this out not too long ago, but with the rats in dave's basement there are 4 different type of large rats that drop the specific color you want when you defeat it. They're behind the curtains in the room and it's a cut scene fight where you can feed your cat while it's fighting the rat.
After the Evil Dave subquest you can fight the big rats that always give a 4-dose shaker of a specific color of spice. If the skill you need to boost is over like 60 it's usually faster to get the spice.
The flier has a use. It is one of the items that an NPC can ask for on a big list of items for a quest. I forget which one, but I remember grinding for it because it isn't tradeable on the GE.
The extremely low bonus of Pegasian boots is fairly common for items at it's level. There are like, at least a dozen items around that level cap that are barely 2% of an upgrade for 100 times the cost.
The spice drops aren't RNG, you can kill hell rat behemoths in the basement for 4 dose spices of whatever you want. The problem is that the boosts increase or lower your stats randomly, so you can just as easily get -5 as you can get +5 and for some skills that don't have good boosts, its useful.
I mean, kind of - it’s more so should be categorized as - junk: always intended as junk; boot - One/few time use: Liquor bottles - Forgettable: Smithing items that never end up getting used (2h swords/battle axes) - Essentially Useless/Flex items: Peg boots and 3rd age Or something like that
Spices grant 1-5 levels, not 1-4, and if you're trying to make something above 85 in a skill (such as crafting) it's definitely not faster to level the skill 5 times than it is to get one spicy stew boost.
@@MusicalRadiation Irrelevant. It takes at most ~8 stews to get a +5 boost to a skill. I don't have to tell you how much time you can save with using a stew boost to get a +5 with a stew and a +3 with a crystal saw to boost to something like a luxury jewelry box or an occult altar. The amount of time saved is colossal. Leveling 5 times in a skill might not mean much when you're maybe like 65 to 75, but once you get to ~80 skills are incredibly time consuming to level.

@@currentcommerce4774 LOL no it isn't, blessed d'hide boots still way better. You're paying 32M for + 5 ranged accuracy and -1 prayer from blessed d'hide. Very good for irons, although mostly at high levels for slow skills (crafting at 90+).
