Michael Jordan 1987: Vs. Isiah's Detroit Pistons, 33pts

  • Even though Jordan here was in his jumping prime, the Pistons packed the lane with their big bodies to deny him from dunking in this game while forcing him to shoot 11-26, a rather horrific FG% by his standards. With sticky defender Dumars determined to shadow his every move, MJ uncorked his patented, reload-hangtime jumper again and again - which was as satisfying as any dunks. MJ led his young Bulls to the finish line against the elite Pistons with his unique athleticism but the Pistons' big bodies in the paint were too much in the end. Isiah Thomas' incredible clutch plays and buckets also helped out just a bit. The intensity of this game to the finish was just a taste of what was to come in the years ahead.

i think it's rare to see these kind of jumpers in current games now, very refreshing to revisit

Classic MJ. No one has hangtime like that on a jumpshot. He was in the air forever on some of those double pump shots. Unreal.

yea i feel the same. it is also funny that everyone is getting hyped up by iverson crossing jordan. as far as i remember mj got crossed so many times by so many different players and yet no one ever made a big deal out of it.

The block and recovery by young Jordan at 2:49 - 2:51 was amazing. Testament to his greatness on the offensive and defensive end! Hoops you are the man! His whole career is a highlight reel!

Look at the very first shot jordan took at 0:15. That was a hangtime jumper. Ive seen many duplicate his hangtime layups but i dont think any duplicated his hangtime JUMPERS.

Good observation. It's because MJ plays mind games with the refs as much as he does with the players. Look at 3:15 in my other vid (MJ 1987 vs. Nets, 58pts). He smacks the ref really good there.

Boy! I enjoyed that rivalry back then. Especially when Detroit was stomping chicago. It was better than Philly vs the Celtics just a few years earlier.

Look at how packed that paint was. Even when there was illegal D that paint was regularly packed. These days you can't do that. This vid shows the level MJ is and was on over everybody else, including the players today. Don't give me that BS about how athletic players are today because they would be beat up and hurting playing in MJ's era. MJ literally was beat up on his way to the top, and he still played great at BOTH ends of the floor. And look at how $hit MJ's team was.

LOL at 1:01 (after that great block) "But they still got the ball.." haha Bill will be Bill.. its true though no one considered blocks a change of possession until Bill Russel put it down to an exact science..
and w..t..f.. at that intro highlight.. seriously basketball was made for Jordan (btw i coin that.. unless someone else has already)

At 7:00 Jordan smacked the ass of the REFEREE, when he fouled Thomas. Why did he do that?

@timjr5000 True..that's what I've been telling people for awhile. The only shot Iverson could of gotten off after the crossover was that jumpshot even with Jordan @ 34 yrs old. He almost blocked it too. If he was younger, that shot would of been blocked!
