- These are approximately 4 week old feral kittens, maybe 4.5 weeks. They were rescued from a bush outside of a restaurant. Their feral mom will be trapped, fixed and released. This is a good guide to what 4 week olds usually look like. These kittens were extra hissy. Most at this age are not this hissy. It is ideal to take feral kittens from mom at 4.5-6 weeks old so they can be more easily tamed. They can still be tamed after that but it get significantly harder as they age. And of course always fix mom cat, even the ferals can be trapped and fixed!

@@loribarnett8769 I was bitten by an adult cat on my leg. Not fun. The initial bite is whatever, but the pain after as it swells and gets 'angry' is pretty annoying.
@@catpoke9557 yeah be careful with those things. Cats' fangs have a notoriously high chance of inflicting infections that become real dangerous once they penetrate the secondary layer of flesh. This is because the wound closes up quickly but the infection festers underneath and has a good chance of reaching the blood stream while growing. Recommended to get rabies and tetanus shots as well as have the wound opened, then cleaned to prevent further spread.
People have lost pieces of flesh and even limbs for this. Thankfully, a deep bite usually occurs only when the cat feels it's really endangered and will instinctively seek a spot they can puncture deep. The wound area will sting, swell and feels like it wants to burst a few days later(this is how you know it's badly infected in there)

No it's not, it's literally how mother cats pick them up, they freeze so that the mother has an easier time carrying them, it doesn't work on older cats which is how you know it's not a defense mechanism
@@bendingdemon6483 The mother cat does not carry them like that. The mother cat picks the babies up with her teeth usually on the back of the neck which paralyzes them. When you pick them up without scruffing them and they go limp is because they are scared 100%

This is probably around the 50th time I've watched this. Yes, I do have a life. But this is just so scary. Update: Just watched it again. This is the most absolutely adorable thing ever. I want to just snuggle those little hissy babies and help tame them. I have a wonderful cat that's just about to turn 3 years old. And he was a hissy feral that looked about the size of these babies. It took a lot of extra care and feedings to bring him back. He had been dumped and had starved for who knows how long before I caught him. The first time I picked him up, he started hissing at me and I was so captivated by his precious little self. I scooped him up and snuggled him close to me and just held him. Next came the beginning of a wonderful friendship. Today, he clings to me hard. And he's the loudest purrer I've ever had. These little ones can make the very best fur babies ever. It's like they always know that you saved them. And yes, I was cowering in the corner when he made his teeny attempt to scare me away with his little hisses. But I was able to overcome my fear and am alive today.
When my kittens hissed at me, I just had to kiss them on top of their tiny heads. I especially love when newborns hiss and spit. Like, what are you going to do to me, little blind, precious one? Oh, now I want a kitten.

I'm working with 8 ferals right now, all adults, and its taken several weeks to get 4 of them hand tame, one is starting to trust me enough to sit about ten feet from me, and the other 3 wont immediately run and hide if im in the room, but they will get right next to the hiding spot and watch me.

I found a couple of those hissing furballs about 2 years ago, after 24 hours, they were curling up next to me purring. THEY STILL DO.
I "found" 4. Mama cat begs me for food every day. Now she is teaching babies to beg. She is socializing them. Mama cat is odd, feral but extremely friendly. You'd never know she isn't a pet. I think of her as my neighbor.

I had a feral mama calico. Gorgeous rush coloring and beautiful green eyes, had two litters before I finally caught her.
We were expecting some bad weather so I bright her in in the cage and got her food n water n litter and whatnot set up so she'd be alright overnight til I could call AC in the morning.
Turns out she wasn't feral, she was lost or dumped and just scared...the moment I was able to touch her it's like BOOM all the memories of petting and scritches and loving are there.
She became sooooo friendly and begging for attention.
Animal control found her a good home with a lonely and lovely elderly guy and last I heard he spoiled her silly

I adopted a feral cat once. She was 8 months old or so by the time we decided to take her in. She was already pregnant so we had her litter too. You would never guess she was feral, she's such a loving and gentle cat.
Pregnant feral cats or cat moms sometimes even seek out human help. If they didn't have any bad experiences with humans they can become very trusting.
If you could "take her in," she probably wasn't feral, more likely a stray, abandoned or community cat.

When they are very young, their hisses sound like that. Mine did that at that age (and she was smaller in size than these kittens) and it was hilarious. It was like that 300 grams kitten believed was a ferocious lion or something lol.

Awwww. They're so cute when they're so tiny and hissy. I found a whole litter in my patio once. They were all hissy. I just put out food and sat out there, and within a day or two, they were coming up to me and climbing all over my feet. I still have one, and she's the greatest cat.

I'm sure Catville TNR knows very well that it is ideal for cats to be with a mom until they're weaned. The problem is, feral cats are a different situation. The longer they're with mom, the less chance they'll have to lead the life they were bred for. These are domesticated animals and actually do not do well in the wild. For adult cats, they're usually beyond the ability to become tame, but they get fixed (to stop the problem), treated for sicknesses, given vaccinations and returned to the wild where they were caught (usually in colonies) to live the best case scenario for them. For the kittens, they need to be given a better chance at life, so even though it isn't ideal, when feral kittens are found they are usually taken from momma cat early so they can be put into a foster home where they can be tamed, fixed, vaccinated, etc and, when the time is right, put into great homes where they can live great lives. If left the full time with momma, it gets progressively harder to help them become tame. Feral cat rescue is hard, but in the end, makes the world a better place and gives these kittens a chance at a great life. I should also mention that this is a practice supported by the majority of animal rescue groups and is considered the most humane way to help with the feral cat situation. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is a huge supporter of this program.

@@nonusbusinissus5632 I didn't mean that anyone associated with her is breeding cats, I just meant that cats were bred all those years back to be domesticated and they actually don't do well out in the wild.
Domestic cats can do just fine in the wild, hence the need to TNR to control their numbers.

I've caught and tamed many feral kittens, from just a couple days old to several weeks. Young ones are the easiest. Once they get used to you feeding them every 2 hours (usually in a day or less) they calm down instantly. You add bathing and caressing them and you have an amazing gentle creature that will give you a tremendous amount of affection.
Why do all american cat owners seem so incredibly fond of bathing their cats? I never understood this. They're perfectly capable of cleaning themselves.

If those don't work a one-time bath may be a last resort, but I see plenty of people who bathe their cats regularly, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

you need to keep in mind that cats can like water, that cats can be fine with baths. your argument makes negative amounts of sense.
@@whatonearth1688 Some cats may like water, but on average, they really don't. And yeah, you can technically get them used to it, but again - what on earth would be the goddamn point? I've had multiple cats over the years and not ONCE did one of them get even remotely dirty enough to warrant a bath.
And yeah, unless you get them used to it from early on (which, again, is absolutely ludicrous, why would you even do that?)`, having to give a grown cat a bath can indeed be traumatizing to them, I have first-hand experience with this.
