Tamil Nadu is the state with a maximum number of Hindu temples and the average Tamilian is deeply religious yet secular. We don't need the northerners to lecture us on religion and badmouth our leaders.
I would instead advise the North Indian people to focus on real issues that impact their lives on a daily basis so that they can catch up with us in terms of growth and prosperity. Period.

The Print team lacks depth on Tamil Nadu history and politics. Initially I held classic western atheistic views like Periyar in which religiosity is root of most human misery (which is not entirely false), Now I realize that those views are non constructive extremism. of course religion is flawed but taking it away from society will just create vacuum that will be filled by some other "'ism'' like communism or wokeism. human life will still be miserable albeit through different means. While I am personally areligious but I think trying to promote modernity within religion is much better and constructive way to ultimately create an areligious society or at least one that is not weighed down by religion.
