Steve Reich sound walls are so hypnotizing.
Oh, those basses at 10:43 are pure bliss!
Get a shiver every time I hear it . . .
A music piece is powerful when you hear more instruments that are not there. Steve Reich creates sounds that only his brain can conceive. He's simply gifted.
This ensemble plays it well, so the individual parts merges into a whole and those ‘artefact instruments’ you mention come across loud and clear. There are other performances here which are not as tight, and it sounds like 22 people each playing little motifs instead of the dense, emergent piece it should be.

What were the skies like when you were young?
They went on forever and they, when I, we lived in Arizona
And the skies always had little fluffy clouds in them and, er
They were long and clear
I was sweating my fretboard wondering whether the camerathem would incorporate the camera squeaks that Steve included in the original composition but I am ecstatic that they were pulled off exactly as written! Bravx!!!
the beauty and complexity of the camera squeaks is what makes this masterpiece what is it known for, it chills my heart when i hear it

Yeah I noticed that, I thought his hands were shaking and was like poor guy. Then I realised all the sweat on the fretboard, I can understand why though

Yes, it's just the smartphone mic. (Not even a camera...) The condensers were just for live amplification.
Next week "Hallucination City" by Glenn Branca. Seriously though, nice performance.

I borrowed it from MDW-library (University of music/Vienna). Don't know where to get the parts... Good luck!
You'd have to rent the parts from Boosey & Hawkes.

so basically Jonny Greenwood = 22 guitarists
Johnny Greenwood with a loop pedal.
Reich composed it for guitar and tape. The best known performance of it was done by Pat Metheny by himself, with a tape machine. Each of these guitarists can play the piece with just their guitar and a loop pedal too.
