Definitely different interpretations of Wonka. Gene Wilder’s Wonka is more subtle and patronizing with his insults while Depp’s is more outright hostile and blunt.
Well except the boat tunnel scene in the original movie, that's proper nightmare fuel and certainly seems like he just wants to psychologically torture the children ;P
73 Wonka had way more of a psychotic vibe. That tunnel scene, and the fact that we never see what happened to the kids in the original? Also we know literally nothing about him or his backstory.
I like that they did a NEW movie based on the material and not a remake of the original which was perfectly executed as what it was. And really -- being mentally damaged, OCD and weird makes more sense with Johnny Depp's take than "secretly wise and pleasant" hermit who has no interaction with anyone but Umpa Loompas for 30 years. If you just look at it as its own movie, it's fairly fun. The visual style is pretty cool and it doesn't make much attempt at real moralizing. And I think did a good job with producing a unique and strange character. Plus -- what's up with Charlie's family?
I just noticed for the first time that a lot of Wonka's slights against the kids are directly reflected by their most extruding weaknesses. Willy Wonka is basically a movie about how he tortures kids in his factory and leaves the least annoying one to live.
@thatonekid_nextdoor I said tortures not kill lol
understanding i would do the same
@thatonekid_nextdoor if it wasnt a movie they would, and considering its a kids movie its pretty disturbing
Like battle royal 😂😂😂
Also it's important to say that the kids with worst behavior lasted longer, the fat kid was the first one, and them violet for thinking she is better than everyone, and them veruca for being spoiled and annoying asf, and them mike being a mix between all of them
I like how willy wonka calmly roasts kids and says *heh*

Can we all just agree that Johnny Depp did an amazing job, playing Willy Wonka.
@IAN HEINE Exactly!!!
Johnny Depp does well in any role he is given
I find it hard to believe that Willy Wonka, Mad Hatter and Jack Sparrow are all the same person
That’s how amazed I am at his acting
@@lethumthiyane5245 I know right, I too wonder that sometimes how he can be an irrevent trickster, (Jack Sparrow) an insane man who is obsessed with partying and tea time, (Mad Hatter) and an chocolate-making genius but is a little strange (Willy Wonka)!!!!
What? He’s absolutely terrible compared to Gene Wilder xD
