  • "Make Them Hear You" from Ford's Theatre "Ragtime" featuring Kevin S. McAllister.
Based on E.L. Doctorow’s celebrated novel, this epic Tony-winning musical depicts three families striving for the American dream at the turn of the 20th century. As the country balances on the cusp of social change, the lives of a wealthy white family, a daring Harlem musician and a determined Jewish immigrant intersect-and their fates are inextricably bound and profoundly changed. With an expansive musical score, striking relevancy and a who’s who of 20th-century historical characters, “Ragtime” confronts both the unbridled optimism and the stark reality of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

this is such a powerful song! "and say to those who blame us for the way we chose to fight, that some times there are battles that are more than black and white" POWERFUL. "AND i could not put down my sword when justice was my right"! oh hell I can put almost every line of this song here, but "train each child to raise his voice"and then my brother then... When justice is demanded by 10 million righteous men, make them hear you" With the nasty, hateful climate in America today this song should reverberates throught out the nation

I haven't seen a rendition nearly as powerful as Brian Stokes Mitchell! Brilliant.

This production was every bit equal to Broadway. We saw it and were moved deeply sitting on the front row at Ford's.

Took my choir to see this last Spring, and wow. Just an amazing production. This song, Wheels of a Dream, Sarah Brown Eyes, and Your Daddy's Son were all breathtaking.

Yes, Rayshun LaMarr Purefoy from NBC's The Voice is one of the local Washington, D.C. talents that performed in Ford's Theatre's production of "Ragtime" and "Freedom's Song: Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War." We were elated to see him share his talents on The Voice!

    COALHOUSE
Go out and tell our story.
Let it echo far and wide.
    Make them hear you,
    Make them hear you.
    How justice was our battle
    And how justice was denied.
    Make them hear you,
    Make them hear you.
And say to those who blame us
For the way we chose to fight
    That sometimes there are battles
That are more than black or white...
And I could not put down my sword
    When justice was my right.
    Make them hear you.
Go out and tell our story
To your daughters and your sons.
    Make them hear you,
    Make them hear you.
And tell them, in our struggle,
We were no the only ones.
    Make them hear you,
    Make them hear you.
Your sword can be a sermon
Or the power of the pen.
Teach every child to raise his voice
    And then, my brothers, then
    Will justice be demanded
    By ten million righteous men.
    Make them hear you.
    When they hear you,
    I'll be near you
    Again.
