Loved the China videos! I went back to look at all the negative comments on the first video though, and I couldn't actually find any? Lots of people suggesting using VPN if you're ever back there and want to access your socials, but they seemed to be trying to be helpful and didn't sound negative to me. Maybe I didn't scroll through enough of them? Either way, you are an amazing drummer and I look forward to your next videos!

Good commentary, great sense of humor, great drumming, amazing showmanship/antics. I've played drums for decades and it's interesting to learn from other musicians. I've never seen showmanship, moves, stick tricks, or antics done the unique exciting way you have. The other drummer you mention Daniel Glass put out an excellent and informative documentary on the history and evolution of the drum set from individual percussion on separate pieces to combined versatile modern kits. Thanks to both of you for expanding percussion in new innovative ways !!!

About the food situation, I can so relate to this. I'm an extremely picky eater as well, and it's one of the reasons that made me give up pursuing a music carreer. When I was in a band, every time I would play a gig in a different location, I'd be dead anxious not knowing if I could eat at all, and even when I could eat, I would be facing the judgement of my peers, something like "how could that grown man eat like an 8yr old?".
Major kudos to you, and it's a relief to know I'm not alone in this situation.
In my experience most people are quite the same around the world they have pride in their country, love their children and are curious about us. It seems its mostly our governments that cant get along. Thank you for posting. Loved the videos and I think you are a great ambassador.

Most people on my channel are GREAT. Seriously, nearly all of them are just fantastic. But the China Videos hit a nerve, and I just couldn't NOT say something it. I just felt it was completely uncalled for. So it' finally out of my system now. :-)

I use to be a professional motorcycle stunt rider. I was a hero, people looked up to me. I signed autographs. I got old and had to stop. And slowly started feeling like a fat POS, has been. You have inspired me to start stunting some symbols, murdering some drums. Learning basics now but i want to mimic your style slowly. My goal is to eventually get back into the spotlight.
I could never understand people, who put negative comments. It is you choice, if you want to use VPN or anything else, like also what you eat and what you take with you to eat. Even if it legal to use, and there is a restaurant with food you love, on each corner. It ist your personal choise what you take with you and how you use Internet and social media.And you do not have to explain your choices to anyone. I really enjoyed both videos from China. Keep doing your things, and don´t care if anyone is ok with it or not. This is your life, and as long as you do things, you are ok with, everything is perfect.

Being a bass player for 35 years and I've enjoyed your playing on RUclips videos over the years. I feel you and Mr. Beast opening the doors to China's social media sites might be risky. That said I was a charter member of MADD, musicians against drunk drummers. 😂 I hope the kids in China can one day enjoy real freedom to enjoy music, the only real universal language.
People for the most part who comment online are mentally disturbed negative hateful ignorant people. The internet is their home and think they can say anything they feel like and its ok. It's not neither are these people. Might as well turn off comments if you don't want to read negative comments. It's best for everyone.

I toured China in 91. Our lead guitarist and the sound man both ate peanut butter for days and days because the food is quite different. The taste and smell is very different. International travel when it comes to food varies wildly and for some there's just no way around it. We did get taken to Pizza Hut in Beijing and had my first Hawaiian pizza. Last day before leaving the country, on the way out we hit a McD's in Hong Kong and we all ate like double what we normally would eat because it's McDonald's and we just went bonkers. I'm sorry you felt the need to explain yourself to the internet. For me, I had to ask "what's in this" a LOT because of food allergies. Almost ate coconut ice cream which would have caused a rainbow ejection in public had I not and just went with "i better just be polite and eat what I'm given to be polite".

I can't give you more than one thumbs up but if I could, I"d mash on the button for a while. 1. You did NOT apologize as you should not. You have ABSOLUTELY nothing to apologize for and doing so would make you look weak, fake, and have the opposite intended effect of only emboldening the idiots who criticized you in the two videos. 2. You are a class act. You did NOT owe anyone any explanations because you were clear enough in the first two videos as to why you did and said what you did. Here, you've gone above and beyond arguably needlessly to try to help your detractors understand. 3. I feel you were honest about your opinions and perspectives in your videos while also remaining gracious. Anytime you give an opinion on social media, you will get hate, but you know this already. The answer is to never change yourself to please anyone unless you feel you are/were in the wrong. 4. Your junk food diet will kill you prematurely. I completely respect your desire and free choice to eat how you want, and I enjoy and love junk food too, but moderation would serve you well and keep you alive longer for those who you love and care about. Just something to keep in mind. 5. Keep doing videos PLEASE and don't ever cave to the losers and naysayers. Thank you Sir!!! Well done!
I really appreciate that. I "do" eat a lot of junk food. But I don't think it's as bad as some people might think. It's more of a "collective running joke." Everyone (including myself) is able to have a lot of fun with it. Unfortunate most (but not ALL) of the people in China just took it too far. Basically, they don't "get the joke." But I felt the comments to unfair and waaaaay too harsh. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vt I have no idea what this "hypothetical" has to do with anything about this video and does not really give much context, IMO. That said, basic respect is pretty much universal no matter where you are and I feel that Steve understands and demonstrates this as far as I can tell from his videos and stories.
Your China videos were awesome, and it was brilliant that you brought a food bag, just in case. Pity those who had negative comments. You were very clear and candid about your respect for the country and the people who invited you. Keep making videos and don't pay any attention to the negative talkers.

Most of the people on this channel are GREAT. That's the first time I really was "offended" so to say. I'm completely fine with someone not liking the way I play drums. But to hand me my whole ass... because I was obeying THEIR laws? That was just uncalled for. Other than that though, honestly, I'm very grateful, because most people on the channel are very supportive. 🙏

I love it brotha. This was a great video. I would have done the exact same thing, and I have. I had the pleasure of touring England, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and France for vacation. My wife and I were not sure what to expect, so we did bring snacks and foods we like.

Yep. People who never traveled to another country haven't a clue what any country is like. Some countries, if you order a steak... it comes covered in a sweet sauce. No matter where you go. Cuisine is bizarre in some places. Even hamburg tastes different.
