Podcast was so good I had to watch the video series as well. You’re making me proud of being a Chicagoland area Catholic and reconsidering ideas about moving out to Steubenville…
This is a really good series! It needs to be commented upon so that it will appear on more "suggestion" lists. Remembering what the different Judaisms were in the first century is very important when trying to understand Christianity today.
Thank you for a great and informative video. I enjoy your back & forth format and often need to "rewind" the video to ensure full comprehension. There is a lot of data you guys pack in a few minutes and it is wonderful. Far be it from me to point out an error, very minor in this case, but the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered shortly after WW2, in the 1946/47 and some more in the '50s, and not in the 60s. :-) Thank you again for the wonderful work and I look forward to many many more!
Was John's Father a Sadducee since he served at the temple? It make me wonder how John became influenced by Essene thinking. Also, Zechariah doesn't strike me as much of a Sadducee. There must have been some Pharisee priests.
Sorry if we gave you the impression that only Sadducees served in the Temple, that’s not the case at all. The Sadducees were merely preoccupied with the Temple cult. Pharisees were Temple *and* synagogue. So yes, the Temple had hosts of men serving as priests who were of the Pharisaic party.
It almost sounds like Judaism was "denominational," in a sense, with the Pharisees, Saducees and Essenes all representing factions of the same religion. Why then wouldn't Christianity be factional or denominational? Why does it need to be one Catholic Church?
@@sarahstice3544 no, because it’s a better covenant built on better promises, and the Church is not merely an institution but is the Bride and Body of Christ. And the Body of Christ cannot be divided, nor can Christ have more than one Bride.

Thanks for tuning in Peter and for the feedback!
First time both have better microphones. It helps.
