Marcionism and the Rule of Faith
In this installment of the First 500 Years series, the brothers take a journey through the life and thought of the church’s first major Heresiarch: Marcion of Pontus. Along the way, they propose fresh ways of understanding the origins of his doctrine and explain why he proved a formidable enemy for the earliest apologists as they began their struggle to preserve apostolic tradition.

Why God Became Man and What It Did to Demons
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Why did God become a man? We’re used to hearing what Christ’s incarnation/death/resurrection did for us, but we don’t often hear what His work did to the demonic powers. We’re used to answering the question solely with reference to matters of substitution, satisfaction, debts (of honor, wrath, or obedience?), so we can lose sight of the ancient Christian worldview and the entire cosmic drama at...

In Part One of this episode, we flip the table a bit and try to understand Rome’s relationship to her gods *from the inside out* so that we can paint a fuller picture of the religious landscape of Christianity’s rise in Late Antiquity. Heretofore, many scholars have argued that early Christianity was able to spread so rapidly because the religion(s) of the Roman Empire had increasingly lost vit...

Women Priests in the Early Church ???

Lila Rose did a great video (June 2024) on S*xual Ethics from Rome to Christianity, where Christianity really brought a s*xual revolution to Roman society. Christianity must have been a huge relief especially to women and children. As I understand it, churches (the widows perhaps) were even adopting discarded children from Roman brothels(!?)

The traditional method of receiving Holy Communion in the Orthodox West is to kneel before the priest, placing the houseling cloth below the communicants mouth as the priest intones Corpus Domini Nostri Jesu Christi Custodiat Animam tuam in vitam aeternam. Amen, and then places the Body directly on to the persons tongue. He goes down the line giving the Body to each person and then returns to the Altar to bring the Chalice, the faithful remaining kneeling. The priest approaches the communicants again, this time with the Chalice & fistula (a metal straw lined with gold or silver which the faithful use drink the Precious Blood without touching the Chalice). The cloth is again placed under the mouth with the fistula placed in the mouth as the priest says Corpus et Sanguis Domini nostri Iesu Christi te perducat in vitam aeternam. Amen. The communicant takes a sip via the straw, makes a reverence to God’s very Body & Blood and goes back to their place in the nave.

I am very thankful for your immediate response. Much appreciated. Ok, but still development. I don't want to be like it must be against God, but I believe, that Israel had too normal cultic development. But God called it idolatry. It's not like, I cannot understand, that God would reveal himself even through icons. On the other hand. I am with Ortlund about this, what he mainly said was, that we shouldn't under considerate (I am not native speaker), that with Israel it seemed like the same and that church is still tempted by the devil into idolatry. Church in our eyes isn't something, that can't do anything wrong. Which can be seen in medieval sentences against anyone, who said that church isn't infallible. So the question is, when it has developed is it possible, it was wrong?

I am thinking, maybe in a too logical way: the Catholic Church respects the Orthodox Church, recognized the validity of their Sacraments, and in a recent statement Pope Francis even said that it is a grave sin for a Catholic to even try to evangelize an Orthodox. On the other hand, in different degrees, the Orthodox Church maybe respects, but does not acknowledge the Catholic Church as such. Their sacraments are not valid, and it is a counterfeit Church. Isn't it logical to become Orthodox? Would this not enhance the possibility of Salvation? I would like an answer to this thought, there must be something wrong about it.

The guy Ybarra is a meatball. He switches faiths quite a bit seems like and doesn’t know what he is just like many of his cohorts. Will switch again I’m sure. Not sure why anyone would consider him an authority on anything? We can all read the history of the church and read off facts and write books. Remember, his opinions are objective and biased and misleading. He also complains about the direction of the Roman church and basically describes the Orthodox Church as what most disgruntled Romans are looking for. We all know that if the majority of Roman’s knew about Orthodoxy they would switch in a minute. I’m doing my best to make that happen. Former Roman here and the truth is Orthodoxy.
