Wow! I've never heard of anyone taking an X5 that fast. Of course I always worry about cars going the other way but I bet it was a blast to experience!
The Fast Lane with Joe Tunney I was shocked because I looked up the top speed online and saw that the ones tested was governed at 130 mph. Once I got it pass 130 when going home around two in the morning I stayed in it and it was accelerating so fast. I got it up to 143 mph and had to slow down because of the bend in the road. I do not have the sport package so I do not know how in the hell it got up to that speed so fast. I was impressed by this beast it was so smooth and quiet at such a fast speed.
from Wikianswers: "Displacement is the amount of space that an object takes up when placed in a fluid. Have you ever noticed how the water level rises in a bathtub when you get into it? The amount of water you are displacing is the volume of your body that is in the water. so by measuring the displacement of an object, you can measure the volume of the object." In the car world, gearheads know that you multiply how many cylinders times the stroke of each cylinder again multiplied by the bore of the cylinder (the actual size of the hole of the individual cylinder) squared and finally multiplied by pi over 4 (which is why a "stroked" motor has greater displacement than its standard counterpart. Though I could have given the second answer, the first answer is easier to grasp.
Engine displacement is the volume swept by all the pistons inside the cylinders of a reciprocating engine in a single movement from top dead centre to bottom dead centre. It is commonly specified in cubic centimetres (cc or cm3), litres (l), or (mainly in North America) cubic inches (CID). Engine displacement does not include the total volume of the combustion chamber.
lol love the science he just made up for displacement. its the volume in the motor thats all . the motor droped in to water that would be a huge displacement.
Pretty soon I will be getting a 2010 BMW X5 48i in midnight blue for $12k! The car has 60k miles! And the prior owner lives in Redmond, so not a very far drive
Looking for 3.0 because this 4.8 could give you more expensive repair for an old car like this. Put it this way, the 4.8 version gives you everything extra out of 3.0, power, fun, expensive repair, road tax, insurance etc.
I might be mistaken but I believe it's been quite some time since BMW used real wood in their cars, or if there is any real wood left it's a thin veneer backed by plastic.
+nick ray Sometimes transmissions will have a metallic click into park. But I can't say it enough...never buy a used car without getting a thorough buyer's inspection at the dealer who sells them new.
+nick ray That strange sound was the rear air suspension trying to level when it squatted down from being in gear. Notice how it moved slightly when he released the brakes?
I have a 2008 x5 4.8 99,000 miles silver clean, smells and look new. Had it for 8months. You want find a better one no where. 3rd row. Will take a offer
You have a great car Archie...it's funny about the quality of X5's - in my newest video which is on the X5 I point out that the engine/transmission combo from the new X5 is what will be used in the upcoming Toyota Supra - that's how high quality the X5 is. Thanks for taking a look and Happy New Year's Day!
It's not a Lexus RX or Acura MDX, but if you buy one with a killer service history that passes an inspection at the BMW dealer before you buy, it can go 200,000 miles without a major overhaul
+nice cars and nice houses on Seattle's Eastside How do those work? And what about getting a warranty? what kind would recommend? bumper to bumper? Also people say maintenance is expensive and vad reliability, so is 2005-06 X5 4.6is better?
I just wish BMW did not have window problems... expansion tank leaks, oil leaks, window washing fluid tank leaks .. they are sure junk for what is supposed to be high quality.
They can be a handful to maintain...however, if you get a buyer's inspection at the BMW dealer before you buy and it passes, you can make a really amazing buy
HOP - I'm in Hawaii...have been for the past few years. I have a new X5 video in fact...take a look if you have a minute - ruclips.net/video/OH-fNqG9Nt8/видео.html
@Everycarseattle, great video & presentation. been looking at several x5's in the 08-2012 year range, with 75k-115 k miles. you mention maintenance is high on these vehicles, how much on average are you talking about, also what do you think of the Acura mdx (as far as maintenance) thank you for your feedback.
These sell cheap, but a person has to consider the overall 'cost' of owning one. You are buying a very costly vehicle, that has several engine issues/leaks and electronic gremlins. So, 10K is fine, but you must budget 5K per year minimum to keep it on the road. Otherwise, it's a great drive.
They are more expensive to deal with Larry, that's for sure...I have a Mercedes GL that I've reviewed over the years featuring true total cost of ownership and even though it's more expensive than other used buys, it's a far better deal than buying something new with no creature comforts whatsoever...over the long haul you'll have something you'll like more that still didn't break the bank overall...that being said, NEVER buy a used X5 without getting a buyer's inspection first at the BMW dealership.
Wow, buddy ! You need to do some research on the meaning of " displacement " ! I can only imagine how some people will look at you when you try to sell them a car, telling them the same nonsense you're trying to tell us here. Do the measurement of the displacement you're talking about..the visualize how tiny it is..and then compare that to the engine and it's size. You will get the joke once you do that, and I will leave it up to you to do the research of this subject yourself
I do, but in it's simplest terms dumping the piston in a tub of water way back when is why the term "displacement" was used as opposed to something else...having an Infiniti race car that was both bored and stroked to go from 3.5 liters to almost 4 liters didn't mean I got a bigger engine, it just meant that there was an increase in "swept" area...it's just not a concept everyone fully understands.
Not quite...it's the size of the piston head multiplied times the amount of travel up and down in the cylinder chamber...boring a cylinder makes the cylinder bigger which increases displacement but also you can make the piston travel further up and down inside of the existing cylinder chamber which also increases displacement by increasing the stroke....technically the bore multiplied by the stroke equals displacement....but it's easier to say how much water is displaced by throwing the thing into the tub.
china quality BMW xD. godawful maintenance nightmare. there is no X5 that cant kick you in the balls for 6000$. even though you take it to the official dealer. :P
I just purchased this vehicle yesterday after watching your video got this beast up to 143 mph and it was purring :-)

I was able to find another test of this car online and they said the top speed is 145 mph.
it was not smart but fun to see a S.U.V that's not a M to do that type of speed.

from Wikianswers: "Displacement is the amount of space that an object takes up when placed in a fluid. Have you ever noticed how the water level rises in a bathtub when you get into it? Spot on! LOLZ, place the engine in water :D
No Bob, try again. Just throw the engine into a bucket of water and that will give u accurate displacement. :D
God, this was painful to watch after hearing that idiotic nonsense
