He is an author, scholar and currently the Convener of the Editorial Board of the World Affairs Journal, a quarterly publication dedicated to international issues. Come discusses the origins of Social Sciences in Europe and its role in Colonization. He also explains the ideologies of some of the prominent sociologists of Europe such as Karl Marx, who believed that India was inferior to Western civilization and that colonization was actually a boon to India.

Scrutinize every perspective. Even Indian.
Hinduism is the most misunderstood major religion - by westerners and by Indians too.
Hindu proposition is simple - you can get over “suffering” by reframing your attachment to things. It can be done through meditation. Yoga prepares you for meditation. The final result is a change in consciousness and perspective that keeps you engaged to the world in a way that doesn’t cause “suffering”. You’ll learn to get off the hedonistic treadmill.
All other aspects of Indian practices are cultural or different meditative techniques.
There’s no theism required and it’ll work with *theism. It’s a sophisticated take on human existence simplified for mass consumption. So it can be and “is” misinterpreted!
Many western philosophers , scientists understood. In public, the church made sure it was misunderstood.
Pagans & Dharmic are - more Evolved, more Inclusive, more Sophisticated & Ahead in approaching the 'Originality of Life' than the Abrahamic Religions.

NEP 2020 should focus on revision of texts on social sciences in Indian perspectives.
I studied all of that in Western universities and cannot agree more with the two speakers. Mind you, a European writer or scholar referred to social science as 'that dismal science' - I always kept it in mind.
'Cyclicity can be helix'. In this one phrase he decimated all those "social pioneers".

Im preparing for UPSC and i have opted sociology as optional subject, though i have read all these thinkers i didnt know they had connection with indian subcontinent or influenced by it.... Though i read them but i do not blindly believe on them.....i always search for balanced approach like i watch NDTV and ZEA NEWS together get information and then i calculate the pros and cons by my own thinking..... I am living in indian society i have seen a lot of changes i know the ground reality, why i should believe on others

"Hindus cyclicity is helical" true and very relevant for modern India, India needs to come out of the perception that westerners are great and we should follow them.
ISM is called as a radical movement. Hinduism was coined in 1830 so as to restrict its scope. Hindutva on the other hand is being in the state of hindu which has existed for thousands of years. So Hinduism isn’t the correct word it’s hindutva. Secondly our people need to understand our philosophy for which knowledge of Gita Mahabharat and Ramayan are a must. Our most ancient civilisation is Ayodhya (if you care to read Valmiki Ramayan) and not the Indus Valley. Our social sciences are deeply rooted in spirituality and sanatan dharma is completely immersed in science. It shows in our scriptures our temples or knowledge of Ayurveda metallurgy and astronomy. We had pachang when they didn’t know how to draw up a calendar. Our women like Gargi and Maitreyee had intellectual debates when the west believed that women have no soul. It’s time we learn our social concepts. The borrowed western thought has to be dumped now. Start reading our epics, stop calling it mythology and you will rediscover yourself.

J Krishnamurthy understood what theosophy was, and without much fanfare, dissolved it completely. He understood theosophy's "false" foundations. I never cared for theosophy but the so called Indian intelligentsia, like RM says, have much regard for it. What a shame. Throughout the course of "modern" India, our greatest loss/deficit has been the absence of true leaders in the Intellectual Kshatriya mold, people who deeply understand the Vedic perspective, but applied/reinterpreted for modern life.
But it is time to rebuild it, and the IF is doing fantastic work in this direction.

I read lots of books and listen to scholars. The clarity in Shri Rajiv Malhotra's thoughts is unparalllel.
Hinduism or ancient way of life is aft a much higher pedestal to present secularism being explained. Ancient wisdom is based on pure logic and goes beyond even logic using impeccable logic to explain why logic fails when trying the explain reality and uses a kind of ingenious methods to to explain that which can not be explained through language using the language. All religions could be source of inspiration and can prepare a human being to comprehend the teachings of Vedas.

UPSC is creating a bureaucracy totally disconnected with Indic culture, they are at the forefront of communisation of Indian polity, education, policy making. They are the reasons why we have universities like JNU, DU, JU etc. where communism is everything. I read a lot on Political Science and history, bt none of the books had any information about what the Western social scientists thought about colonization, about India. We are taught everything goodie-goodie about people like Max Muller, William Jones, Hegel, Engel, Max Webber.. a whole lot of these imperialist.

If just 1% of this information becomes available in the form of Bollywood movie it might change the masses and their though process much quicker than the education system. Indic wing should take over Bollywood if they want to run quicker in to dharmic direction.

Good point on cyclical nature of life and life forces. Has the truly Western thought tried to demonstrate omnipotence of human being and overcome the cyclical nature? Those scholars were biased to form their opinion about life in a few years as if people were matters which are more or less static in their properties. Now look back what the Western material linear omnipotent acts have achieved in terms of human suffering despite material luxury? People are suffering more and more with health problems, especially mental health and repercussions on physical health as well as breakdown in relationships, social isolation etc. What is the purpose of social studies? It seems, you're right, to study people as objects and material for narcissistic application of the will of people in power. Where is true liberation and enlightenment of life. Fraud of Freud is exposed. Authentic Indian spirituality has a lot to offer, no matter what our goals are, in fact material goals can be better achieved if society has spiritual strength, NOT RELIGIOUS! So called Hinduism is NOT RELIGION. We have been brainwashed to believe it is a religion.

Marxism itself is a religion without God. The comparisons between Christianity, Islam and Marxism are uncanny. One God, One Prophet and one Book. The role of God is played by The father of Jesus in Christianity, by Allah in Islam and by Marx himself in Marxism. The prophet role is played by Jesus in Christianity, Mohammed in Islam and Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro in Marxism. The most telling comparison is the book- The Bible in Christianity, Quron in Islam and Das Capital in Marxism. All three are dogmatic. Either you believe in us or we will kill you. This resulted in killings, genocides and wars conducted by these three dogmas. Christians killed 400 million innocent people, Islam killed close to 350 million people and Marxism killed close to 150 million people over the time they existed. They don't accept other point of view. "My way or high way" philosophy prevails. No room for disagreements. Where as in Sanatan Dharma, there is a library of close to 500000 books many of whom hold their own views. Officially there are six Darshanas but in reality there are many more. Philosophy evolves with varying ideas expressed and followed by people. Example, the Adwaita of Adi Sankara was followed by vigorous Vishshtadwaita of Ramanuja and Dwaita of Madhwa.There are rigorous arguments evolving different ideas. Even today many yogis advance different ideas. That is because Dharma is not deterministic as the other three.

While Rajiv Malhotra is doing a lot of good work, he is a bit too hard on people who give an alternative view. Recently I told him that his view on Nepal-China nexus vis a vis India was alarmist. He asked me to go to sleep and feel happy. It transpired that Nepal kissed the hand of India and wants to build bridges with India. So he is well advised not to think his view is not disputable with arguments

While Western Social Scientists of that time thought India to be knowledgebase, they thought they are the torchbearers for India to be back on track. Some of them thought Indian autonomous Village Economy to be destroyed through British Colonization, so Feudalism, Capitalism and Communism can happen gradually, one step at a time, thinking Communism as the highest level of ideology.
This supremacist attitude lead to so much of what happened till now.
But as Dr.Subramanian Swamy quotes Deen Dayal ji in his book RESET, India and for that matter the world needs Humanism, over Socialism, Capitalism and Communism, for a better and mutual progress.
