  • Wildlife rescue. Saying goodbye to Maka. It may hurt now, it may be hard now for everyone including Maka herself, but it is for the best. It is so that Maka could be integrated with other monkeys and will one day be released back into the wild, where she really belongs.
    HISTORY: Maka is a long-tailed macaque (aka Java macaque aka crab-eating macaque aka Macaca Fascicularis). Her mother and half of her troop were captured by a group of jungle people for food. Maka was saved by someone who then sent her to a cats & dogs shelter. The shelter didn't have extra staff nor the money to continue taking care of her. She stayed in the shelter for a couple of weeks before I adopted her and brought her home.
    Location: Malaysia.

    Outstanding video & excellent info on Malaysian gov't resources. In a comment below, the channel goes into detail, "It's not a private org, it's a government agency (department of wildlife and national parks) which is under ministry of energy and natural resources, which means she won't be sold to a lab. worse case scenario, she'd probably stay in a sanctuary and wouldn't be released, but at least she'll be with other monkeys instead of being alone." Thought I'd put that where the [idiot] commenters who say IT'S A DEATH SENTENCE TO RELEASE THE MONKEY! could see it.

    I know it's not in her best interest to live in a home as a pet, but I can't help but wonder if the multiple changes of environment could possibly have affected her emotionally. First taken to an animal shelter that was only for cats and dogs, then 'adopted' to a human home and lastly taken to another place from the human home. I hope she's doing good and is settled now.

      That persona wasnt with her long enough for this to be damaging to her, really. She was a wild monkey to begin with, and she was already probably almost if not a year old in the first videos of her? I can't imagine they kept her for more than a month or two. They absolutely did the right thing. The wildlife department would have sent her to a rehab facility where she would be integrated into a troop in a protected area.

    • @kucingtenten
      @kucingtenten  4 года назад +1

      @@ezraoberheim1081 You are correct. The monkey was already a year old when we brought her home. She was only at the cats/dogs shelter for less than a month. She didn't act like the pet monkeys you usually see on RUclips, she already knew social ranks and a lot of other things that she learned from her original troop.

    You should have taken her to the rescue right away instead of keeping her while she's little and cute, getting her used to living with humans, and then giving her away when she became too much to handle.

    • @kucingtenten
      @kucingtenten  4 года назад +1

      She was not too much to handle at all. A lot was put into consideration into the final decision, but one crucial factor that I never revealed before is the licensing. All types of monkeys are protected under wildlife act in my country and can only be kept as pets if you have a license. The government used to allow anybody to get license to keep monkeys as pets, but at the time when I got Maka, they were revising this procedure and only those who already have existing license can renew, no new license will be issued. So we were at a crossroad.
      I discussed this with my family, whether we should just keep Maka without license (up to US$100k fine or jail time if caught), or if we should hand her over to the wildlife department. After a lot of thoughts and discussions, we decided that it's better that we hand her over. One reason is because without license, you can't just bring her to vet clinics and ask the clinics to treat her. What if she's sick? What if she's got diseases that can infect humans? You can only find out if you bring her to a vet clinic. Bottom line is, you can't do a lot of things without license, at least for me. I know there are people that keep protected animals as pets without license but that's on them. If I were to take care of Maka her whole life, I would want to do it the right way, not the sneaky way.

    I think you should have kept her, being as she was a FEMAle._she was assured safety, love, companionship,shelter, food, females stay with their native group, power in numbers. Males are run off from their native group when they become motherhumping juveniles. Being a young female, young males will gang rape her on a constant basis since she does not have her troop to protect her. She will not have mothering skills because they gain these aunting their siblings, cousins and watching mom. She will either be a jungle sex slave for yong males to practice on as they move into a more permanent troop. They know she is alone and will not want to state associated. She will have a rough life either locked in a poorly funded sanctuary. Damn you guys EFFED UP!!! WTF!! I don't believe in monkey pets in general but this was not a general ordinary case or monkey!! You already know this and you're probably kicking yourselves already I better just shut up!

    • @kucingtenten
      @kucingtenten  7 лет назад +6

      Thanks for your concern. But actually, it doesn't work like that. The reason I sent her to the wildlife department is to have her looked after by professionals and for her to be incorporated with other monkeys in their care and to finally be released back into the wild in a troop. This process will take YEARS, but they (the wildlife department) have done it successfully in the past. They are sometimes joined by activists from inside and outside my country. I didn't know this when I took her home. But once she was in my care I had the time to research and make some calls before finally coming to this decision.
      When monkeys are released into the wild they are NEVER released alone. If you look at my other videos, you can see that I, myself, live in the country where lots of wild monkeys roam around, which means if all I want is to "release" her back into the wild, I could just open the cage's door and let her roam free. But I wanted it to be done properly, in the monkey's best interest, considering all factors.
      And in the wild, small monkey like her, alone, wouldn't even be a "sex slave" as you called it. It doesn't work like that. She will easily be killed by bigger monkeys from other troop if she is released ALONE. They won't even let her get away the first time. There is no such thing as "sex slave", they won't even mate with her.
      We took months to come up with this decision, after making lots of calls and researching, don't worry, I believe this is THE best decision for Maka. We loved her and all we wanted is for her to be happy and free.

      +Macaca Fascicularis (Maka) IMHO you made the right decision. Don't know if these factors came to your mind also... Presuming you had Maka when she was very, very young - she could live up to 25 to 30 years. How old will you be 30 years from now? What would happen if you (and your significant other) suddenly pass away? What happens to Maka then? You never assume your relatives would be more than happy to take care of your monkey given the commitment she needs. This is not a common pet like a dog or cat.

      Idk, I'm just trying to paint a picture of what I've seen. Many sanctuary's are poorly run, collect donations then do not go through procedure to reintroduce monkeys. Some do, I'm not denying that. Some people think its worth the risk, I however think that if the monkey is relatively happy and someone is content caring for it then why not leave well enough alone. She seemed happy and you seem knowledgeable and more than capable of caring for and love her. Oh well, its done now. I appreciate your concern and caring for her and respect your decision.

      I was referring to what Jennifer hall found out after she turned "NAIA" over to sanctuary care. You can go to her channel and see if you think I'm bullshitting you. She says she regrets her decision on a daily basis. You may want to check up on maka, from what I've seen reintroduction to the wild is possible in rare cases at best.

      It's not a private org, it's a government agency (department of wildlife and national parks) which is under ministry of energy and natural resources, which means she won't be sold to a lab. worse case scenario, she'd probably stay in a sanctuary and wouldn't be released, but at least she'll be with other monkeys instead of being alone.
