This is a great example for all music journalists/ DJs for how to conduct a successful interview. Do your research, know your subject well, and offer your guests a chance to talk about what is most interesting to them. Terrific interview. Well done!
She was well educated on the topic and asked good questions. I liked it, however did notice that she wouldn't say OK or all right or I see or anything that you would say in a conversation to show understanding and close a topic after the other persons intervention. Also no follow ups from her on things they said, she just stuck to her list of questions. Those things seemed pretty strict and forced to me, I felt the flow was not natural but a race against her clock. Still good information came out.
John's impersonation of Nick min 17:54 is sublime. I love how they can make fun of each other and don't take offense for it. They've been friends for over 40 years and know each other so well enough to do that. They are all so lucky to have one another for 4 decades. Cheers to that!
This was a really strong interview. She did do her homework. She was smart and engaged Simon and John are brilliant. I think Simon's voice is better than ever and they look great. I'm their age and I always find something to love with each album. This was a smart, entertaining interview. Love it.
I always remember the night he walked in front of me at the concert in NY city and I could not say anything. I was so shocked and felt in awl!!!! The band was AMAZING as usual and LOVED the entire show and went again many times to see them in the US! I had to go all the way there from Italy to see them in concert in the US where dreams come true!!
I love this interview. I love listening to them talking about their work. This is a nice chance to see Simon and John exchange some looks while listening back to a track too :)
@3:06 John's red face and giggles are priceless "To play with her...To perform with her" I even like his head shake- I like everything about this man...BIG sigh..drooling. =)... Side note: he still has beautiful hands and forearms- nice and wrinkle-spot free . They haven't aged one bit.
And John's impersonation of Nick @17.53 was so cute, it got the interviewer laughing for while . Johnny is simply irresistible and sweet. Love him to bits- sighs....
Very well done interview! She posed alot of questions I would have asked them. I always like hearing about how songs get inspired and created. I think it's great that the DD guys strive to deliver a special experience for the fans every time they play a show. Brilliant artistic talent they are blessed with :)
I’ve been a huge Duran fan for several years and have loved many of their early albums and even some that others didn’t (Liberty & Medazzaland) but I had doubts about this album. I bought a few tracks and kept wanting more and finally bought the entire album (bonus tracks included) and I have really come to love this album and a lot and it is truly a classic Duran album
would y'all stfu and appreciate that they're still kicking it and are even around,, their old sound won't come back but there isn't anything wrong with this new age polish sound either it's beautifully done and i adore them just as much now as i ever have before.
John still has his beautiful smile as ever. Man, does he look HOT here or what? Ohhh Lord, have mercy on me, how I adore this man. Big sigh.................
What a fabulous interviewer! She really is exceptional. I have been a Duran Duran fan since 1984, and love having the pleasure of watching this. And when you have someone doing such an exceptional interview, it makes it all the better.
This is such a great interview. A real journalistic example of someone who knows her subject and let’s the subjects speak. Love it. Both Simon and John’s brief impressions of Nick are hilarious.
I like how Simon said about Kieza etc , That the resurgence terms of fashion of 80's + 90's that they chose the better segments + aspects of the fashion It is like with any decade- Some of fashion was alright and others were just crazy
Man this lady is on point! I mean this is a band that lives on point but you can really tell that she studied for this assignment. She was more fascinating than the dynamic duo!
Great interview, love Paper Gods it's in my top 3 favourite Duran albums, really looking forward to Future Past which is shaping up to be a corker going by the songs so far, please give us an interview for it too 👍
The future past songs I'm really loving, I hope they cut down on the guests, i'd rather hear them play than whoever they dragged in that had a hit that week.
It's funny how punk was considered anti-style (to quote JT), but it actually brought a crazy-awesome look that I exploited for years. It was extremely actualized and identifiable...I consider it the most so of our time.
I love this album and song Paper gods and which way Simon is singing this song. Simon is very sexy, harismatic and talented singer. I love his voice. John Taylor is very talented person and bas-gitarist.
Continuam gatos gosto quando eu banda permanece e mantem os integrantes embora as vezes alguns prefiram segui carrera solo por um motivo ou outro mas a questao é eles são lindos cantam e tocam muito
Great interview- respect what DD are doing now. Should be stated that this is an entirely different band concept than the original 5 (and, presumably, Andy being the catalyst/hindrance) to the point where I'd say these guys have morphed collectively into a "production machine". While I think that was the case with Red Carpet Massacre, I'm not entirely convinced it's the case with Paper Gods. That said, I have yet to purchase Paper Gods due to seeing that there were collaborations and my feelings toward Red Carpet Massacre to having such and not caring for several songs because of it. I think it is possible to "stay fresh" by pushing your boundaries as musicians rather than collaborating. Also, finding a producer who understands the band and is willing to push them some can do wonders.
I found the interview mostly interesting. John is very eloquent and I think anyone would enjoy his company. I think The Universe Alone is DD's best song. Ever. In my opinion. I am glad they recognize the evils of money, which is a false paper God that goes beyond such rediculousness in this world. We have a God given right to be on this earth and to live in peace and freely. So money is a paper God for sure!
Simon left the studio early? John himself said once the bass tracks were laid down first, he had nothing else to do, so he spent all his time at the bars wherever they were recording while the others finished up. But must say he looks good for all the years. And what about Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan's record, Paper Monsters from years ago? Now its DD Paper Gods? But I guess its OK, they always were in the midst of things, so I guess they can create a cultural commentary.
I assumed that 'paper gods' was a reference to Simon's agnostic or atheistic perspective, and I just learned that 'paper' in this sense is a reference to money, rather than a flimsy or non-existent God..never knew..
His perspective is still the same. They just can't fathom the idea of God, the Creator of all that is seen as a real, personal entity. It just doesn't click with entertainers.
Kind of feel like this is DD lite, they seem to have a history of putting the band on autopilot, then letting someone else show up and take over for awhile. I think they should stick to Nicks instance at getting the production right, instead of whoever they said, oh just let it go its alright.
Shari'a law has no place in non-islamic countries. Al'lah and Muham'mad are as much a sick joke as the Q'uran... 👎👎👎 What normal person would embrace genocide-promoting political ideologue that wears a religious mask?
The facts are AT is gone from DD. He chose to leave for a second time in 2007 and never looked back. They have moved to new material and moved on while AT still has no career without them. What do you want? For them to quit? Remember it's John's band, always has been. He has been back since 2003 after a few years of doing his own thing and finding out how much he wanted to be back with them. Sadly Andy is not a team player. He's so full of himself he thinks he's better off without them. Move on. They have!
I love Duran Duran but let's be honest.. Pretty much everything they've done since Andy left the 2nd time around 2004 has been absolutely awful.. Simon's voice changed and not for the better, there's too much of Nick's influence without any strong guitarist to counter, and Roger's drumming has gotten much slower with age. Also the constant name-dropping and collaborating with artists less talented and half their age is embarrassing.. They need to get into the studio, preferably with Andy back and make an album similar to Seven & Ragged Tiger which was their best album to date (34yrs ago!)
Really?! Duran Duran have adapted to the times without selling out! And they have NOT rested on the laurels of their previous successes. OK, will "Rio" or "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" mean more to me than their newer material? OF COURSE NOT! I attribute that to how old I was and what I was going through at that time. But, I do NOT discount their current effort. I ADORE "Pressure Off" and "Last Night in the City"! I saw them in July of 2016 and was absolutely thrilled and mesmerized by their performance. Simon's voice was awesome! John's bass playing was superb. And Roger's drumming was flawless. Plus, seeing Nile Rodgers play with them for "The Reflex" was a dream come true.
I disagree with some of your points. I found Astronaut rather disappointing even though it was the original 5. All You Need Is Now was probably the best they've sounded in years. I'm mixed on Paper Gods probably due to the over collaborations. I do agree that they need to have strong full time guitarist and put the brakes on all the collaborations. Their first 3 albums were done without the current flavours of the month chiming in - I mean it would have been unheard of to have Madonna or U2 or Michael Jackson jumping in on say 'New Moon on Monday' or ' New Religion' or 'The Reflex'. Now, you could argue that their collaborations started with Seven and The Ragged Tiger (Nile Rodgers was all over that) however I think that Niles Rodgers was the band's George Martin. Niles Rodgers could get the best out of the band, much like George Martin got the best out of the Beatles.
Uh... Simon doesn't sound that much different at all. He sings the songs the same live (or better) than he did in the mid - late 80s, which is remarkable for a singer with such power. As MeBrewMan stated, I'd agree that All You Need Is Now is probably their best in quite some time. They really need to stop with the over reliance on the collabs, and yeah, they need a more restrained Steve Stevens type to fill that guitar role. I honestly don't really know why they don't just go ask Warren to come back. He's a good fit. They could even get a new guy too. I want new material, but I do think its a mistake for them to keep these collabs going, because the songs that heavily rely on that always end up sounding nothing like actual Duran Duran music. They also need to take a look at all the up and coming synth wave artists that they inspired with Seven and the Ragged Tiger especially.
Duran Duran released two good albums..the first two.The right place at the right time. After that Seven and the Ragged tiger was patchy to say the least and apart from one or two moments(ordinary world is one) they have got worse and worse.Le bons voice was always poor and his lyrics pretentious.Compared to their heros Bowie and Roxy their output is fifth rate. They were always less than the sum of there parts but they thought they were great artists due to the early boy band popularity.John taylor talks complete pretentious bollocks here and not for the first time....Sonic architecture! It all sounds so rehearsed..le bon takes a pee and comes out thinking what hes just hummed over a toilet sounds good..They were lucky..looked good for MTV and got swallowed by the rock cliche of cocaine and ego after the second album.Their entire cannon is as empty as the decade that gave them life.
In the world of music good looks or luck never took anyone too far, dear. Since 1978 Duran Duran continues gaining momentum, so have you ever considered the possibility of you being totally unable to recognize brilliant music? Because you definitely seem like you are. See, this band is all about SONIC MAGNIFICENT ARCHITECTURE, therefore, allow me to feel deeply sorry for your obvious deafness. As for your words about Simon's voice and especially about his GREAT, absolutely AMAZING talent as a lyricist... oh LOL!! honestly, I found them hilarious! That's all I have to comment reading your cute delirium of nonsense. Cheers.
I disagree. I think they get better and better as the years go by. They are my favorite band ever. Simon's voice soothes my soul. I hope they continue forever and come out with more and more music. My favorite albums are Big Thing and Liberty and I also love Pop Trash. Each album has its own sound. When I'm at work and listening to that voice, it is like liquid velvet.
I know you wrote this two years ago, but I have to comment on your stupidity. Duran could easily ride the nostalgia wave and play eighties shows forever, but they do not. They are artists. They never asked for the pinup poster boy thing at the beginning...it was forced on them by the label. All they’ve ever cared about is the music and by that, I mean NEW music. They stay current and don’t live in the past. They are consistently awesome in the live show setting. Every new album of theirs has been a good album in some way. I think you are jealous of their success and therefore you seem to have to try to tear them down. You can try all you want, but they’re not going anywhere and I thank whoever is in charge of such things every day for their talent and what they have shared with the fans.
Good gosh is the host 104? Wow is she terrible. Lost track of all the cliches discussed here. You're talking to DD. A giant pop band from the '80's. What in hell is stopping you from asking questions pertaining to their unique position in pop music. Good lord what a waste of time.
This is a great example for all music journalists/ DJs for how to conduct a successful interview. Do your research, know your subject well, and offer your guests a chance to talk about what is most interesting to them. Terrific interview. Well done!

FACTS!
Excellent, so refreshing to hear an educated mind talking about their art.
John's impersonation of Nick min 17:54 is sublime. I love how they can make fun of each other and don't take offense for it. They've been friends for over 40 years and know each other so well enough to do that. They are all so lucky to have one another for 4 decades. Cheers to that!

I’m having a DD evening...Still love them dearly.
I would absolutely love to hear her interview the boys again for their next album in 2020.
Duran fan for 40 years. This is one of if not the best interview I've seen. John...dont worry...play the bass...dont worry about the radio.
I enjoyed that. The interviewer did a very nice job. It flowed very naturally.

Especially the look John gives Simon?
@3:06 John's red face and giggles are priceless "To play with her...To perform with her" I even like his head shake- I like everything about this man...BIG sigh..drooling. =)...
Side note: he still has beautiful hands and forearms- nice and wrinkle-spot free . They haven't aged one bit.
His face was priceless after he said that!
This is the smartest interview I've heard with Duran Duran. It's the questions. Normally the person conducting interviews start with 80's questions
7:25 Simon's impersonation of Nick got me giggling.
them's happy giggles.
Yeah - I've noticed they are all pretty proficient at mimicking each other - ivery funny
And John's impersonation of Nick @17.53 was so cute, it got the interviewer laughing for while . Johnny is simply irresistible and sweet. Love him to bits- sighs....
Best interview EVER. God it's so nice to hear them talk about their work.

Happy to say that I still love Duran Duran !!! 😍❤️
This is a very intelligent and classy interview. Kudos to the host, she really did her homework
What a fabulous interviewer! She really is exceptional. I have been a Duran Duran fan since 1984, and love having the pleasure of watching this. And when you have someone doing such an exceptional interview, it makes it all the better.
✨️✨️✨️ I love this Album ✨️✨️✨️
Wow ! The first really intelligent interview ive ever seen. She is really good. And Simon and John actually appeared engaged.
This is such a great interview. A real journalistic example of someone who knows her subject and let’s the subjects speak. Love it. Both Simon and John’s brief impressions of Nick are hilarious.
GREAT INTERVIEW. The host is great in her quiestions.
What a great interview!! Hostess did an amazing job and had me totally hooked the entire time
“Drive a lad insane…”
Aladdin Sane
Can’t believe it took me years to figure that out.
Great chat. It's lovely to know they're already back in the studio! x
Lovely interview 💖💖💖
almost any given minute of it provides a highlight
Sounds of Thunder one of the best songs from the first album and Secret October
Hope she interviews them for future past 🙏
Rachel Ghiza... (sp?) Great interviewer. I'd like to hear her do more of the show.
Bravissimi e simpaticissimi..... Come sempre.... Grandi Duran!!!!!!
Oh Wow! What an Amazing interview.
I love to listen to this guys. God blessed Simon Le Bon and his band. I love them so much.
I like how Simon said about Kieza etc , That the resurgence terms of fashion of 80's + 90's that they chose the better segments + aspects of the fashion

They are so intelligent!!!
I really enjoyed this interview.

please give us an interview for it too 👍

I love dd sooo much:)
Simon is a real sweetheart .
great interview, very interesting
Mmmhermoso... Con qué ternura mira la entrevistadora a John cuando lo escucha!! 19:12 definitivamente... en su yo lugar estaría igual!!!
I came here for DD, but stayed for Rachel Giese! Loved her work at Xtra, miss it so much. Great interview all around.
This interviewer is extraordinary.
It's funny how punk was considered anti-style (to quote JT), but it actually brought a crazy-awesome look that I exploited for years. It was extremely actualized and identifiable...I consider it the most so of our time.
why is jason bateman talking about duran duran?
OH MY GOd I have ALWAYS thought they looked a like, but people think I am nuts.
😂😂😂
10:01 thanks for the meme, JT.
Iove that song
Siguen igual los amoooo alicia de argentina
I love this album. DD is so smart to bring some FRESH BLOOD into it, but there's no denying that it's exciting Duran.
John has a slight Californian accent and rising inflection when speaking.
He lives in Los Angeles since the 90s
He's an American Citizen since 2013. Dual Citizenship...
Love these guys
Im buying it!! I RARELY do....
Pressure Off wouldn't be anything without Nile Rodgers
It sucked.
I love this album and song Paper gods and which way Simon is singing this song. Simon is very sexy, harismatic and talented singer. I love his voice. John Taylor is very talented person and bas-gitarist.
Just Genius

Simon thought of the melody for Paper Gods while in the loo??? Hmm... I can't hear this song and not think of "paper roll"...
Great interview- respect what DD are doing now. Should be stated that this is an entirely different band concept than the original 5 (and, presumably, Andy being the catalyst/hindrance) to the point where I'd say these guys have morphed collectively into a "production machine". I can't say this is Duran Duran- that ship has sailed. They have evolved to something else and jumped that shark.
How awkward was them sitting around listening to the track? This was a great interview by the wy, thank you to poster, appreciated.
I replied below regarding collaborations before I even listened to the interview. Let me clarify. I think collaborations can work, but you must be careful as to why and how you are using them. Seria bueno la traducción de las entrevistas no todos sabemos ingles
Paper Gods is a pop masterpiece, second only to the first album. So proud of these wild boys.
I found the interview mostly interesting. John is very eloquent and I think anyone would enjoy his company.
I think The Universe Alone is DD's best song. Ever. In my opinion.
I enjoy many different forms of art but why do most come off so pretentious? Is there some "secret book" they share amongst one another? There are moments of that behavior here.
Still I am a fan.
The Universe Alone is the strongest track on the album
No its not. Face for Today is the best song on the album
I agree. I'm not a great fan of the album but that tack is incredible. I wondered if it was metaphoric - starting with "Planet Earth" and ending wing "The Universe Alone"
I think they both seem like lovely people. Simon seems really sweet, actully.
My favorite on Paper Gods is What Are The Chances?. Simon's voice in that song is out of this world!
"and Nick," says it all about what Simon Le Bon has had to endure with Nick Rhodes. LOL!
plz play save a prayer on the regular ::)

"Its a mixed bag" It sure is JT.

Q? That's still on? Whatever happened to that Gomeshi freak?

durian durian? is it a tropical fruit?
they have to go back to thier root as Depeche mode .... For duran . new romantic sound is unique not retro its Avangard
Ok, I wish Simon was my husband, said.
Ben Hudson - what a no mark.
under sharia law they couldn't even say paper gods. which is why we need to maintain our secular freedoms
Shari'a law has no place in non-islamic countries. Al'lah and Muham'mad are as much a sick joke as the Q'uran... 👎👎👎

OMG they are so old..😩
What do you expect, they are 56 ;
PJ hei..they are old because of drugs and alchool and parties they have done .,,i know guys older than them and they look much younger..
We all will be one day. No one is spared.
The Cool One i don't agree. all depends on your lifestyle..
Mimi mami Remember your comment when you are fifty years old, mm. It'll come sooner than you can imagine...seem like the blink of an eye. :-)
Paper Gods is horrible. I bet Reportage kicks ass. Release it.
Paper Gods is awesome! I'll tell you what's crap -- biting into a soggy, mushy apple. That's the worst!!
You dont know music. Idiot
Paper God's is a terrible album one of the worst Duran Duran albums ever need to stop collaborating with other artist and just be Duran Duran
Red Carpet Massacre
That one actually has some good songs. Paper Frauds however...
...and you need to work on your punctuation
I'd say between the two, with a bit of tweaking, there may be a full album worth of worthwhile material there lol
Did you even buy the whole album? If not. You can't say that.

And yet here you are all these years later watching.
Good gosh is the host 104? Wow is she terrible. Lost track of all the cliches discussed here. You're talking to DD. A giant pop band from the '80's. What in hell is stopping you from asking questions pertaining to their unique position in pop music. Good lord what a waste of time.
You’ve got to be kidding...this is a great interview and she’s obviously done her homework.
