- Wow, check out the 80's hair and clothes on those excited groupies waiting to meet the band at the 2:34 mark!
Backstage raw video from 3/4" master tape by TV cameraman Rick Sanderford, (WGGT & WLXI). Thanks Rick! Видеоклипы
Feathered hair, crying teenage girls, drop ceilings and...Duran freakin' Duran. God, this is priceless.
And gum chewers
Excuse me for saying this but I'm a 51 year old Black man who likes DD and have been a fan since the early 80s and beyond! I grew up with MTV and watched all their videos , including the spin offs of Duran Duran ! Long live the80s and DD!
Thank you!
Nice to hear! Me too! I'm a 54 year old White woman who was crazy about DD in high school - long live the 80's!
Ahhh, well I’m a 53 year old white male who’s been in love with this band since 1982…. and btw, what relevance is our color and gender in loving a band??????
@@scottritshie105it doesn’t matter what skin we’re in lol! We just appreciate good music 🎵! Take care my friend!
Hello fellow Duranie
Remember when the world dressed like this? Great times to be young.
Yes....yes....yes..... and yes !!!!! Wonderful times the 80´s. We have everything in music. What we do call real genuine creative music. No techno and Gaga. There were plenty of choices for each and every taste on TRUE MUSIC. The 80´s were THE BEST !!!!!! Yes, sir
This is so totally 1984. I was 14 at the time and man this brings back a lot of good memories!!! 1984 at its best!!!
Good God, Simon is stunning here. He's got such a strong presence. I'm a John Taylor fan but Simon carries the torch on this one.
was just thinking the same thing! he's so tall and striking... best word to describe him.
When you talk to him it's almost like you hang on his every word & he seems generally interested in what you're saying. It's a little bit intimidating.....to me it is anyway.
and he looks at least surprised if not in shock,. maybe angry in a "we need to do this ,? "look on his face. Body language tells all. Great Band!!!!
Stage make up.
OMG, did you meet him? I think I would die, I love that man!
In 1984 I would have the been the red-headed friend of the girl in the fedora. Quietly FREAKING OUT. You can feel the nervous excitement of these fans. Amazing footage.
Did anyone notice how awesome and cool Roger looked as he strode in like a winner.
I met Simon, John and Nick in person once. Simon and John are incredibly tall, you can see it here!
Lucky you ☺️. For me it would still be a dream. Hope it will come true someday
Whaou, exactly that impression, they are very tall!
@@marialeadamayanti1254 I know right! So lucky! If it were me, I'd faint!
I would have fainted just at the sight of Nick and his adorable smile.
First impression....Simon: a little annoyed and exasperated; Roger: tired and sort of over it, Andy: just over it; John: too good for this; Nick: ok, I'll just go with it & smiling. Still LOVE them ALL❣️
Just exactly how they were in 1993 and the rest of the times they played in my country -Argentina- ... actually I remember last time they didnt even said hi to fans - all over 40 y o people waiting outside their hotel - ...but to be honest I dont blame them much for that ...
Yeah. At around 0:46. The close up of Simon's face and his expression. By this time they were probably all tired after 5-6 months of touring and just wanted to to go home and rest. Unfortunately for us after their hiatus and side projects we lost Andy and Roger. But years we got them back ( Andy for a little while anyways).
That is pretty much the way they were most times personality-wise back then. Not just this one specific event.
John seemed like he was really engaged in conversation with the fans near him. The rest of them seem pretty exhausted. Simon seemed congenial but pooped.
Oh, is that your first impression
And is that good enough for you?
THIS is how 1984 looked.
Some of it. My mother made me take my little sister to the Pittsburgh, Pa. concert in 1984. I didn't want to go, but my sister had their posters all over her wall, and played their music incessantly, it meant everything to her. So, we went, and I have to say, it was a fantastic concert. It's not that I didn't like their music, because I did, but I was always more into classic rock . I'm glad I went, plus, I love my lil Sis!
I was 21 in 84. What a trip back in time.
Exactly! I almost felt like I was in school again.
Wow, John Taylor and Simon Le Bon are so tal!!!
Simon has an Elvis vibe about him and John could be a calvin klein model as a side job.
it's funny how that girl with the hat is using every ounce of will she can summon from going completely bat-shit crazy being just a few feet and seconds away from meeting DD.
The girl wearing the Trilby and chewing gum is a true Duranie! Adorable!
Speed freak
I went to the 1984 Seattle Superdome concert. It was a sea of girls. To this day it was the most exciting concert I've been to. I'm still a Duranie today. Great music from this band.
I have to agree with you my best concert ever! I will always remember this ❤️
omg the HEIGHT !!! lovely so lovely
Those guys have been class acts since day 1, so kind to their fans, I remember stories of how people would meet them randomly in public, and any of them would take the time to stop and greet them. Duranie '85-present!
Those fans are so lucky! I was 9 back in 84’
Greensboro NC 1984... This was my first of MANY Duran Duran concerts. Wish I was at this meet and great. I did get to meet them finally in 2016. These guys are amazing and still put on a great show.
kimmiekimB I'm still waiting to meet them!! 😩🙏oneday
Lesa Purvis same! Apparently you can get a VIP TICKET at their upcoming Kaaboo show for only $17,000 lol. Guaranteed to meet them though!
@@TheDonnaTB THATS ridiculous! 😭 at that rate I'll NEVER meet them!! 🤣🤣
Back to being 14 all over again. This is when I started liking Duran Duran. It was new Moon and Monday off of seven and the ragged tiger!!!
John is so tall, lord
I think 6’3
i wish i was there to meet Duran Drran. it wouldve been unbelievable to meet a legend band and the best band of the 80s.
John is a very gentleman!!
Además de bello es un gran caballero. 2:59 qué mirada!!!
I saw them at their Cleveland show in '84... drove through a blizzard to get there, was senior in high school, and got in trouble over it but It was worth it! I taught myself to play the bass because of John (loved his style - my hair was like his and I wore a fedora hat, too), and loved singing along with Simon whenever I was in my car. My wife was a huge fan of Nicks. If you want the most in depth look at them possible, read In the Pleasure Groove: Love, Death, and Duran Duran, by John Taylor. Just finished it and it was great! Rock on, DD.
BreezyHawk I read that book. I think John left alot of stuff out.
Canadiana71 I plan on buying the book. What did he leave out?
+nymike06 that The thing Andy 's book ( a must read - just for the rant against the music industry st the end) has some fights & arguments with Nick and covers a bit more 'fun' in the early days. With JT still inDD it's not going to be 'warts & all' except a case of crabs.
He wasn't being forward with alot of things. He held back. Andy revealed things John didn't mention in the book.
My wife got us tickets for a show this September. Going to be fun seeing them live again!
ahhh I wanted to see that girl's reaction to meeting them, lol. the one chewing the gum. we saw her anticipation & now I wanna see her reaction with them!!
This is proper fashion! Especially the hair
I second that
THE NUMBER ONE BAND OF ALL TIME DURAN DURAN
Agree 200%
This looks like a John Hughes movie
John and Simon look like Rock Gods seriously!!!!
I was 16 In 1984 and these guys were huge in Australia , Great memories.
I was a young fan in 1984 (about 7). I wish I was at this meet and greet. I still follow Duran Duran to this day.
I wonder if any of those fans seen this upload...?
And Simon thinks "Are any of them old enough to see the ceiling of my hotel room?"
They are so lucky to meet n greet them!
DD in NC...life is good..getting chills watching them walk to the meet and greet.
This was the same time as the Sing Blue Silver documentary (Duran Durans 1984 American tour) was being recorded, if any DD fans are unaware of it I'd definitely recommend checking it out; it's a fantastic snapshot of Duran Duran at their height
My sister got me into Duran Duran. She was a teenager at the absolute peak of their fame, so her walls were COVERED floor-to-ceiling in all Duran Duran posters, and that’s all she played on her record player. I was just a toddler, but because of her, I grew up listening to all of their music throughout my childhood and I love them more than her to this day!!!!!!❤❤❤
Ha Ha, the girl starting at 2:20 is the epitome of the 80s..She looks like she can't decide if she wants to be Madonna, Debbie Gibson or Boy George....but She's gonna have fresh breath when She gets there!
Dead ringer for Debbie Gibson...
Simon so tall and handsome
VERY Very gorgeous 🥰!!!!!!
THIS is HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Simon looks utterly STUNNNNNING I must say., absolutely beautiful! And the way Nick stands, OMG!!!!!!!!! The fans are SOOOOOO cute!!!! Love the girl with the hat and badges, WOW!!!
Simón Le Bon es lindo oooo alto ojos hermosooioooo
JT 💜
I know if it was me I would have been week in the knees standing next to Simon Lebon for a picture. He looked so gorgeous!
Wow! I was 4 years old. Today's celebrities don't have this kind of star power. All they did was stand there but still, times are different.
They are all young & gorgeous :)
I feel sorry for John especially now that we know how shy he was and now to be thrust into the spotlight and crazy fandom. It must have been scary!
Wonderful!! Oh, to have a time machine & relive it all at least once more. Thanks for uploading this, a superb & charismatic band and people, then & now.
holy john taylor is soooo good looking omg
simon n john are so handsome holy cow
OMG! That is great footage!!!!
I'm 52 years old now and have loved Duran Duran since I was 14. If I was there I would've climbed Simon like a tree :) He is soooo hot here!
Gawd, I've never seen Simon look so sizzling. Better even than my old hearthrob JT.
OMG I'm 14 again! I would have given anything to be in that room, I was in love with them especially Simon! Saw them that year back in Chicago and loved them and still do since 1982 ❤️
simon is a god!he's perfect!!
Back when people had genuine excitement.
? people still have genuine excitement. what do u mean?
AWESOME FOOTAGE !!!! Thanks for uploading! - This is actually March 30, 1984 - Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, NC, USA acording to duran tour timeline- and the last USA show was April 17, 1984 - San Diego Sports Arena, San Diego.
And I was at the San Diego show!! 😁😍 I still have my program... I was bat-shit crazy for JT, I went to the show by myself...my mom drove me 90 miles there and 90 miles back. Thanks Mom!! 🥰
@@TigergirlM amazing! I was but 10 years old and was a huge duran fan living in midwest USA wishing I could get that same cool duran hair to impress the ladies haha thats how my mind worked then
Most of the young fans in this video were winners of a contest at WKZL, the radio station I worked for in Winston-Salem, NC. I was asked to be their chaperone. I had been a Durany fan since I bought their first album on import before they were known in the USA. Needless to say, I accepted the chaperone task.
@@TigergirlMCecilia?
@@deaconlightwould be amazing of they saw this post also and commented..
Excelente!!... Me parece genial que compartan este tipo de "rarezas" del ambiente y la escena de la música de los años 80's. Saludos 🖐🏻 👍🏻 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
80s is so much fun, love duran duran!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🎶💕🎶💕💕🎶💕🎶💕🎶💕🎶🎶💕🎶🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The humidity in that room sky rocketed 😅
This is #1 on my bucket list of things to do before I hit 50 in 2023 so guys, if anyone can help me get a Meet and Greet with my heroes then please please help me. I've had so much trauma in my life that this one thing would make my whole life being a fan for over 40 years. ❤❤❤❤❤
I was so in love with them 🥰
3:33. The jean jacket with the puffed sleeves. Classic!
Happy 60th Birthday Simon!!!!
I would have literally crapped myself if I was stood next to SLB!!!
I still have a "Triad's Video Music Channel - TV 61" sticker on a speaker in my basement. I LOVED that Channel. It was great for those of us who lived outside the city limits where cable had not reached yet.
This is Priceless! lol
Wow, I would love to have a meet and greet with the Duran boys!!
But I must say they don't look very pleased to be there.
And why aren't any of the girls trying to jump on them???
I know they would have been tearing me off them if I had met them in the 80's they were gorgeous :) and still are
Love me some Duran Duran song's
LORD! 40 YEARS AGO!
My goodness I would have been in seven heaven meeting DuranDuran. Im alife long fan off DuranDuran from 1980 I heard them first on the radio and loved there music always loved Simon from I first seen him on top of the pops not only talented but incredibly good looking. I thought Simon was the most handsome man on earth he's gorgeous and extremely very tall there still going 40plus years there brilliant I knew back then they had something unquic and special DuranDuran are very underrated.
watching this on 1 May 2020 - THIRTY-SIX years later....
Wow Simon and John were bloody tall!
6'2" both
Not to make comparisons...but what the Beatles were to the 60s...Duran Duran is/was to the 80s. Both were Brit bands that helped define
a generation and an era. Proving twice in pop culture history the British beat us Americans at our own musical game. Even though "rock n roll" music was born here in the good ole USA, the British did us one better (at least a couple of times). Of which the likes we will never hear and see again!
I totally agree with you 💯!!!!!
Lordy, Simon is gorgeous.
GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS GUYS 😍❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!!!!!!
Wow! Didn't know John was so tall!
He is 6'2''
This is awesome. Simon is amazingly gorgeous and tall. I would have been all over him.

Super video.. just fascinating~ TY for posting~
This is such a fantastic, magical video!
Saw them at Radio City Music HaLL in NYC! They didn't disappoint! 🎤 📀 🎧
Awesome video. Thanks Rick!
omg simon is so tall!
There was a time I would have sold my soul to the devil a million times over to be in that room.
Me too, they really dont know how privileged they are meeting one of the best groups in the world I love Simon i first seen him on tv in 1980 I thought I had died and went to heaven, he's so handsome here also. Simon has agreat personality and presence when he comes into a room.
Classic video! Good Lord, I was in 7th grade.....
WoW this is 7th and the ragged tiger tour I saw them I was around 10 saw them at the Capitol center in Maryland
The girl with the hat... you can tell she spent HOURS perfecting her look, lol.
My sister got to see them in concert spring 1984 in Atlanta
Interesting how much Andy Taylor's image/persona changed from say 1984 to 1986. By 86, he was LA pop metal with torn jeans.
Love Them! Awesome! THX ;->
Wow that's awesome
Ah, my lovelies
Simón Le Bon que alto y preciodo es 💋💋💋💋💋❤❤❤❤❤
Suddenly I feel like putting mousse in my hair
Avrei dato un anno di vita x avere una camicia come quella di john con lui dentro magari ke tempi con loro i ricordi più belli della età più bella grazie duran vi amo
jt is so fine
I would have been the girl in the raglan sleeve t and the hat. Covered in band swag and about to have an anxiety attack.
violetsnotviolence same!!!!!
I still have that blue sweatshirt and my concert baseball shirt from 84
This is an excerpt from the documentary Sing Blue Silver of DD's 1984 Seven and the Regard Tiger tour. Yes, great memories of those early 80s years and our youth. 😋
🎶They lay back laughing at naivety's star🎶
Greatest band ever Nick Nick 👀🤩🐾🐈⬛🎹🎹
3:42 She parts her hair in the back
my gosh I was 12 years old when this was filmed and my cousin 11. We were such big fan then. Ive got to send this to her....
