The vessel shall avoid crossing ahead of a vessel following tss, so tanker should have not attempted this in the first place.
I am assuming that at this point slowing speed and letting container cross my bow is not an option so to avoid collision I might try to give hard over to port and try to follow the flow of traffic on tanker vessel.
On a container vessel in tss I should be steaming at a safe speed which would allow me to assess and take action in appropriate time to avoid a collision. Since container vessel was following general direction of traffic me on container vessel to avoid collision might have to reduce speed and hard over stbd and leave the tss.

Very poor decision to cross so close ahead of a fast-moving vessel, one mile only allows just over two minutes margin. I should have planned to cross close behind the other vessel by turning 3 minutes later.
Now I should either turn back onto my original course or slow down. Even if I can slow down in time this is risky as the other ship may choose to do the same so reverting to my original course then crossing later is the safe option.
The other vessel should maintain its course and speed but if they believe a collision to be close they might reasonably slow down.
I think it would also have been sensible to speak to the other vessel before executing the manoeuvre to clarify my intentions.

First I'll not try to pass ahead of the container vsl I'll pass astern of container vsl
And if close quarters situation container vsl must take appropriate action like reducing speed or astern propulsion and as own vsl also must take appropriate action like increasing the speed or wheel to hard stbd....

Stop engine and let container vessel get clear or reduce speed and alter course to stbd then port.

Very unlikely in second mate orals. The surveyor wants you to be able to call Master or Chief Officer.

sir, 23 knots in TSS? aren't we expected to be in safe speed?

Good question but how do you decide what is safe speed? Its different for different ships. Also, it depends on the scenario in TSS, and other factors like traffic congestion, etc.
