Fire Emblem has a ranking system and you might know it's pretty silly. You might even know the Hector Mode rankings are bugged. But did you know there's a secret set of ranking requirements that might be the intended ones? And that someone did a run getting 5 stars in every rank in Lyn Hard Mode and Hector Hard Mode? Along with training every unpromoted unit to level 20, recruiting every unit, visiting every chapter including 19xx, getting all the treasure, going to the Linus and Jerme route split maps and never using the arena?
That someone is Altissimo, and you can find her uncommentated run in its entirety here: • Fire Emblem 7: Blazing...
But if commentary is what you want, you're in luck, because every Thursday for the next few months we'll be commentating an episode of Altissimo's run, going in-depth on all the crazy strategies employed to make this work.
Spreadsheet with all the ranking data can be found here: docs.google.co...

I might be a rare case, but I really do not mind my units not doubling/one-rounding in GBA Fire Emblem. If units need to combine to deal with enemies, that's when it feels the most like a strategy game to me. Admittedly, it's tough to make Fe7 player-phase focused, but honestly it's fun to use screwed units and pretend the enemies are stronger than they actually are.

It’s part of the appeal of 0% growths for me. If you can, try out easy games like FE7 and FE8 with that setting, as it makes their mid and especially late game feel more like FE6 maps and it makes you appreciate their map design a lot more now that you can’t steamroll everything.

“Most units in this game are usable.”
Very true. This is something that stays true for most games going forward. I personally like it, because I always thought that getting over punished for needing replacements wasn’t really conducive to a positive new player experience.

I recently finished a FE6 playthrough where I used all three shamans/druids. Sophia is the only unit I had to open up lua just so they could hit anything.

    *Chronicles of the switch playalong*
There were two things that kept gnawing at my mind this whole chapter. First one was the steel sword I had to use two longsword uses for in chapter 20. It's being used by Raven again in this chapter, and as the video show, it does get used in combat until it has only one charge left in altissimo's run! I did not know if she was going to use the last charge for a killing blow or weakening an enemy, and if the latter I was going to be in REAL trouble if I couldn't find some way to use up two more charges!
The second thing was of course Wil. Because of chapter 24 he had 3 more hit, 1 more evade, 1 more crit evade and 1 less res. With chapter 17 and 20, I was NOT underestimating those slight alterations to his stats, and hoped with all my might that the rng wasn't going to pull a fast one on me for the third time! He didn't cap this chapter, meaning he's going to be used again.
(Steel sword charges used up at 11:43 - 13:23 - 14:03 Now, imagine if those last two wyverns DIDN'T have javelins!)

12:40 Eliwood faced 58 hit and 2 crit from the Luna shaman. Not bad odds, for ranking

When i try to think about the worst unit in the entire series, i try to put rose collored glasses and see what is still bad. At best, Sophia is a desperate attempt to have a staff user in an iron man(i d'on't count the free guiding ring and the slow down to a crawl strategies) There are very few units i would put in her tier if i'm really trying to be honest here(even Meg is way better for the simple purpose of like 3 shoves and one hawk block in the entire game, which should tell you everything you need to know)
