No wonder it only needs one pilot, the plane flies itself.

I assume that's tongue in cheek, because know one who knows aircraft actually believes they fly themselves. The pilot also has to be able to fly the aircraft without autothrottle, or any autopilot function for that matter. So the assumption that any of this is why it can be flown single pilot because it makes it easy, is totally wrong. Certainly the aircraft is simplified, but not all because of autothrottle or autopilot functions. Someday we may get to the point where aircraft fly themselves, and some are already able to do so during certain phases of flight. But it's erroneous to assume pilots no longer need to know how to do all these things, or to assume no longer needing that knowledge is why some aircraft can be flown single pilot.

These modes are great providing you are well ahead of the plane, often too much is just that, too much! If in doubt turn it all off and become a pilot again not a button pusher!

What this is mostly intended for is in single pilot configurations. If your in IFR conditions it would help with your work load.
