    Nice video. I need to do some tree clearing and this helped me decide to rent one and do it myself

    I’ve been debating this exact idea recently, the video was a lot of help since I’ve never operated one before.

      I know a guy who did it, dug his own foundation for an addition. He’s the most fearless DIYer I’ve ever met.

    Definitely rent it for a week, I agree. You’re already saving a ton by doing it yourself, spend the money to give yourself the time to familiarize yourself with a new piece of equipment.

    Great video. I like that you said even after 5 hours, you're still not all that good.
    As a beginner I know I'm going to do the all day rental and not just 4 hours. Thanks.

      Each year I get a little better. It takes me 1-2 hrs to get back to where I was the previous year. Time and experience!

      It takes hundreds of hours of practice to get really good with one of those.
      Although most people can learn the basic functions after a few hours.

    I just rented one for the first time here in CT and for a week with pick up and delivery it costs almost $2000. Different states different rates 🙄

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  4 года назад

      Absolutely! Delivery can be a large portion of the cost. Recent inquired about renting a piece of equipment, week rental price was $265, delivery and pick up was $595. However, the amount of work you can get done with something like a mini excavator is amazing if it is all planned out.

      Which rental company did you use. I am in ct and have a pond project to do and thinking about renting one too.

    Most machines of that size and type that I know of use the joysticks to control electric switches that control hydraulic valves, and that lockout turns off the electric part, not the hydraulic part. (Electric over hydraulic pilots controls)
    The hydraulic pump is directly connected to the engine and runs continuously with the engine.
    But you probably figured this out long before now. 😁

    Thanks for posting this video a huge help and a confidence builder lol I am pretty sure that I will make the plunge in the fall because right now here in northeast Ohio the weather is not cooperating with all my plans way too much rain! Thank God I am not a farmer as they are in real trouble

      On a side note I am picking up my 455 tomorrow I found one with 1400 hours,one owner, stored in a climate controlled building since purchased and all service since bought in 1994 done by the JD dealer
      60” deck and no cracks in any of the panels but the seat is in typical john deere seat shape hehehe

      Thanks! We were in the same boat with the rain until a few weeks ago.... I almost canceled the excavator reservation because it was so wet. How did the 455 turn out?

      mmrbeef bought it and got it home and as much as I like my 425 I just can’t believe how much more I like this one.I almost feel like I am driving my 2038r when I’m using it only lower to the ground lol

      I’m considering it after talking to local builders about putting an addition on my house. For $250/sf they can **** themselves, I’ll learn how to do it myself.

    what licenses or certifications do you need to rent these?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  2 года назад

      Generally just a drivers license for ID when you rent one. If you are unsure, ask the rental place for a demo. If you are a novice user I would highly recommend the drop off and pick up option if your rental place offers it. Loading and unloading can be a challenge. Most places will ensure you are loading and towing the machine with the proper trailer and truck. Specifically on this size unit (3.5 ton) you will want an 8,000lb rated trailer and newer 1/2 ton or any 3/4 ton truck.
