    "Sometimes all this hard work makes me feel so alive." Christine - that is a secret you have discovered, many of us middle class westerners never learn it - things that take us to our edge - also take us deeper into life. As to the tears - all good, tears are an evolutionary advantage - humans who don't cry are LESS evolved. I cry from time to time (105kg, 183cm, shaved head, long red beard ...) and I feel GOOD about that, I feel strong to be connected easily to my emotional truth. I don't cry and quit - I cry, learn something, feel a bit of 'release' and then keep going. It sounds like you do the same - that is a strong thing, be proud of it.

At first it's like when when when, then we had a boy and then it was like 'oh are you going to try for a girl??' then we had a second baby, and she is a girl, and since then it's been like 'so, are you done now? Are you dine now?' No, we had another... 'but now you're done right? Don't you have your hands full? Oh but you really must have your hands full, you're done now, right?' Ugh lol. Funny logbook entries from airplanes and how maintainance reacted: Problem: _Mouse on board._ Written solution suggested by mechanics: _Install. Cat._
      (I think in reality the mouse was removed and quickly. Not only would it freak out the passengers, a rodent could be a hazard. If it gets to the innards of the plane and eats at cables. There is a backup for everyting that is crucial ... but in reality sometimes unexpected things coincide.
      Maybe you could get a local cat - that might be trained by the mother not to stray or it will be eaten by wildlife.

    Being snowed in here in the California Sierras 13.6" (34.5 cm) of new snow today Tuesday have been watching all your videos. We love living off grid (solar, wood stove) and the stillness the snow creates,
    Had to smile when you were talking about things that annoy each of you, because as a widow, I can tell you, I miss those little annoying things so much.
    As for whether someone will have children, I never ask, simply because so many couples have a hard time conceiving or have miscarried, had a stillbirth etc that its to personal of a question for me to ever ask.

  • @BarradaleFarm
    @BarradaleFarm 3 года назад +1

    Oh I totally understand the challenges your facing. Especially you Christina.
    Two years ago our family of now 6 moved totally off-grid to our farm 2000kms from friends and family. We literally camped in an old vintage caravan and tents until we built a 30ft modern yurt. It is comfortable now but very cozy. Mostly it’s great, but sometimes I long for my own space.
    We have done a lot now and life is getting easier but, but we have a long way to go. I distinctly remember a couple of times bursting into tears when the gravity fed water tank was empty, the fire had gone out, the animals had broken through fencing, I was washing our clothes by hand, our solar had broken and we had no money to fix it and everything just seemed too bloody hard. But constant small changes and steps forward and things get easier. You learn to adapt, be innovative to create solutions and make do. And the failures make even the smallest steps forward feel monumental and worth celebrating. While if we lived a typical life they would be taken for granted.
    Life will get easier, and like you guys, even when things feel impossibly hard, we remain drawn to this beautiful nature filled life.
    Xx

    Christine, I totally understand your frustration about the children question. Even if you do want kids, there is so much pressure on women to start a family and do it as soon as possible, and it can be really overwhelming and make you feel like you lose value as an individual person. I'm 35 and just a few weeks away from having my first baby, and I have been asked those questions for years and years. When I got married, the first thing people asked was "when are you having kids?" And even when we decided to have a baby, we struggled with infertility for three years before we got pregnant, and that question really hurt because I didn't know the answer. I really wish people would just stop asking at all. If it happens, it happens, and if you decide you don't want kids, that's fine too! It's nobody's business but yours and Kalle's.

    • @Lisboooa
      @Lisboooa 3 года назад +2

      It's brutal. I don't think people understand how rude and hurtful it can be. Specially if you are dealing with infertility problems. They just add unnecessary pressure. And if your choice is just not having children... it's even more brutal.

    • @Lisboooa
      @Lisboooa 3 года назад

      @Säker tagning have heard of infertility? .... Distracted? Trolling?

    • @Lisboooa
      @Lisboooa 3 года назад

      @Säker tagning yes. It's very hard and you don't necessarily have to tell everyone that asks your medical troubles, so people should have discernment and stop with the questioning. If someone choses not to have children should be respected too. Only they know their reasons. We are not on this world to judge eachother. I sure know a lot of people that had children and have zero patience, that provide food and a roof but lack on the emotional side. We live in a very selfish society and more than ever the meaning of family is disintegrating and being attacked and people are none the wiser.
      A new life is a miracle.

    Me and my family moved to a little cabin in Finnland and we have luxurious running hot water in the kitchen, but no bathroom "just" a sauna. And it can SO hard!!!!! Getting fires going everywhere in the mornings and evenings, showeling tons of snow, frozen waterpipe...but we love it!!! We would never go back to Germany and live in a apartment!!
    About the mice...we have a very skilled cat taking care of them. Maybe you think about getting one?
    And with having kids...we have two of them and we love them so much and they have so much fun in our garden and look at the all the catterpillars, help my wife in the garden planting veggies and they climb every tree. And your right Kalle it's a team effort. Don't be afraid Christine, you maybe give something up for maybe sometime but you will gain so much by becoming a mom! The children taught me what was really important for me personally. Because even with kids you will make space and time for the important things!
    And thanks for doing great videos!

    When i moved to my forever home, The first 4 years was freezing and the curtains used to freeze in a thick sheet of ice. So we used to use 1 room and keep it warm as much as possible. Then i got double glazing, Oh wow what a difference. Q Do you or will you grow your own food. I save ton's of money by growing my own and storing for the winter. Take care good VL.

    Regarding the question about having kids - would you raise them in the cabin? Is there a school nearby? What about social interaction (since you mentioned there's nobody living around you!)? Lots to think about!

    I switched to a slow lifestyle three years ago. I would like to know how you find balance for your social life in this way? I have noticed, for example, that my social behavior has changed by living more rural and being more reserved.

      Thank you for writing in English, I was working on a French answer but it was a bit tricky 😅 My behavior have changed as well 😊 Maybe we can talk about it on a future live stream? To big of a topic to answer in a single comment 😊

    I am happy you talked about the mice situation, it was something i was curious about for a long time. I had the chance to live in a cabin this summer for a while and i had the same problem, once it started raining the mice would use the house as their shelter and they would roam everywhere, especially in the kitchen. How do you deal with it? Did you just get used to them or you have a plan for how to keep them away in the future? Thanks for another great video

    Greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing your life and thoughts with the world in such a realistic and honest way- not an easy thing to do!
    Someone else may had already piped up to note that the item Christin was referred to is generally called sanitation pad here in the State. Not I expect that you will need to say it often in public!
    It is indeed good to know what one does not need to have in order to build a content rich life. Stay safe and be well. The Chinese written word of crisis is made up of two characters: danger & opportunity. You absolutely have turned every danger you met on the road into opportunity !

    Haha the part about mice in the house... we ever travel with our (tiny) caravan. A few years ago we rented a over 100 years old beautiful house in south sweden for vacation and ever thought there are birds running on the roof... ok, until 2 days before midsommar when we noticed all the walls are full of mice... the day after we left... my wife couldn't sleep with the knowledge of those tiny grey sweet things ;-))) Seems that all swedish houses have them, maybe the well-known Tomte's are based on mice ;-)
