I love that so many of the comments refer to our love of the song/band when we heard them in the early 80's. We really lucked out on music that was at it's peak for a decade.
Early New Order 1980-1982 was when they were at their best! Very ALTERNATIVE sounding, aloof and super cool if you were "in the know". I wish Bernard would still sing low likes he does here. He had that Ian Curtis vibe back then. Plus, I wish Peter Hook was still in the band...oh well dreams never end huh? :)
They reached their peak IMO with Blue Monday and Power, corruptuon and lies. I mean I still love almost everything they did from Low life up to Technique but after 1990 they began to lose any notion of creativity. Republic= crap, Get ready= good but nothing special, WFTSO and Music complete= boring.
Ian was cremated 230580. I was born in 230580. I've listened JD/NO 23 years. Have all albums. Some in LP/CD-format. Singles, remixes, covers... over 70 gig there with other cd's. Some of those I have mastered again & are just 320/s bits. Mp3pro or mp4. Theyre still important to me -Im almost 40. Up, 4,5/5, c 5/5, st 4/5, su4/5, mo 3,5/5; pc&l 3,5/5, ll 3/5, br 4/5, te 5/5 re 4/5 gr 4,5/5 wf 4/5, mc 4,5/5. Thank you NO! Salut for surviving. And that gig -I dreamed 20 years that I'll be there. And i was. That was 2nd time to I know they played Decades. First -1985 live- I have on cd. 2nd. Decades by NO is in my recorder, memorystick, memorycard, computer and in my head. What a moment!
@@jamescasarella8463 I get the impression you REALLY had to see them in the 'heyday', though I could be wrong...I saw that at my first proper 'festival' experience, Coachella in 2005. And even though the atmosphere of being out in the desert with all these wild folks (not to mention the potential chemical enhancements) made the mood very 'forgiving' for the bands on stage (meaning everyone was feeling so good and 'vibed out', you wanted to like everyone before they got on stage), and even though their setlist was great, including several great JD numbers, New Order's performance just fell....so...flat. It was like, you could feel the distance between them on stage, almost outright resentment, and the feeling of "We're here for a good paycheck" came through in everything from the vocals to the actual guitar playing. Oh well, still a great day
In 1984 I was a 16 year old New Order completist in rural PA, buying different single versions by mail order. I could have never imagined the solemn and evocative sleeve from “Movement” being animated like that. But even then, if I did, I’d have said “KILL IT WITH FIRE”. Absolutely fantastic you guys are putting this wonderful old stuff out here.
I like this version! Big up! Up, down, turn around Please don't let me hit the ground Tonight, I think I'll walk alone I'll find my soul as I go home Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo
the chorus practically sounds like modest mouse or of montreal but 10-20 years earlier. mindblowing, don't know why this version isn't talked about more
Not my favourite NO song (in my top 5 though) but by fuck, this is THE ONE that gets everyone involved at gigs - what an anthem ! And so glad Movement is getting the recognition it deserves ...my favourite NO album, always has been, always will be.
Had hoped to get a ticket to see them doing one of their first gigs post Joy Division - band I was in was offered support slot so that was rather wonderful. Feb ’82 in SFX, great venue, sadly no more...
Not to mention official uploads of the other 12" material (both A-sides and B-sides) that got reissues last month. In general, I've noticed that most of New Order's 12" material hasn't gotten that much focus in a while; heck, Substance 1987 has been out-of-print for over a decade. Kind of a shame, really; their 12" singles are fantastic!
@@VinchVolt And I sold 1st. press Substance 2LP for food. Fuck! I had it 16 years. NM... :'( CD Isn't the same. Sound (orig. CD) is flat and songs don't kick same way.
I won a walkman 'like' set in 1982 for breakdancing at the Broady Bluelight and discovered 3RRR and New Order; and we try to see the impossible in the 'big bang'
Here it is also... my friend gave me that when I turned 23y. Now he's intependent artist, plays in two bands and got reputation to make fantastic music solo. We played 7,5y together. In that time people look down us because we played on the street in the middle of the night and always improvisational lo-fi electropunk or surreal odd 15+min. long looping riff songs never written or played twise. We we're stiff, weard and passiveaggressional low-lifers most though. Fun to remember those days.
I love this version a lot, particularly the flourishes right at the beginning (at 0:07 and 0:15). Does anyone know what they are? Guitar? Synthesiser/keyboard? Ocarina?
LYRICS: A heaven, a gateway, a hope Just like a feeling I need, it's no joke And though it hurts me to treat you this way Betrayed by words I've never heard, too hard to say Up, down, turn around Please don't let me hit the ground Tonight, I think I'll walk alone I'll find my soul as I go home Up, down, turn around Please don't let me hit the ground Tonight, I think I'll walk alone I'll find my soul as I go home Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Ooooo Each way I turn I know I'll always try To break this circle that's been placed around me From time to time I find I've lost some need It was urgent to myself, I do believe Up, down, turn around Please don't let me hit the ground Tonight, I think I'll walk alone I'll find my soul as I go home Up, down, turn around Please don't let me hit the ground Tonight, I think I'll walk alone I'll find my soul as I go home Oh, you've got green eyes Oh, you've got blue eyes Oh, you've got grey eyes Oo, you've got green eyes Oh, you've got blue eyes You've got grey eyes And I've never seen anyone quite like you before No, I've never met anyone quite like you before Bolts from above hurt the people down below People in this world, we have no place to go Bolts from above hurt the people down below People in this world, we have no place to go Bolts from above hurt the people down below People in this world, we have no place to go Bolts from above hurt the people down below People in this world, we have no place to go Oh, it's the last time, oh, it's the last time Oh, it's the last time, oh, it's the last time Oh, it's the last time Oh, I've never met anyone quite like you before Oh, no, I've never met anyone quite like you before
The 12" version is best, and every version since has been diminishing returns. They've never nailed it. As this was their first production it's a bit rough round the edges and this 'mix' is questionable. It's a shame Martin didn't get to produce this as it would have had that 'bit extra'.

Best version. Best production

What was that electronic duo Sumner had in the early '90s? Were they any good??
I was 16, now im 58! Still love x
My fav version of this song! Brings back memories of seeing New Order at the I-Beam in San Francisco in June of 1983.
Wow! I would love to see them live. Greatest band every - I remember listening to them on a portable cassette player in 1985 in Massachusetts!

This is the one that drives the crowd crazy. Full of life!

Best song in the whole damn universe.
"Ceremony", Perfect Kiss" and "Temptation" are songs I listen to every day, and sometimes multiple times a day.
Peter Hook is a Genius
every version of this song is great, all unique
It's the vocals for me. Raw and punchy
My favorite New Order song!
My favourite song ever.
Squilliam - respect!! From a friend of Spongebob.
I like this version! Big up!

Gotta love how foward in the mix the sequencers are on this.
I was fashionably late to the party, but this song got me through my freshman year '85-86.
Same here.. except years later got me through a split with my wife in my 40s. We finally made up and went and saw Peter Hook and the Light

best thing New Order ever did ... CLAAAAAAAASSSSSSIIIIIICCCCCC !!!!!!!!
Just danced to this at 3 a.m.

mycriminoftogist hopefully to original video, which is a classic!

They did upload them.
They just blocked them out in every country, I believe.

12” above all else although this is also fabulous. Goosebumps.
My fav version simply joy division always in my heart
The best version of this song.

Time to blow the woofs out of my speakers!
Love the way the F and the L move ,this version was a lot closer than the original 12inch to their live sound I think.
The Chalk is Movement, the cheese is Temptation. There's nothing like this on Movement. This and Everything's Gone Green are when New Order start.
Wow que excelente Versión!!!
Brings me back.
First time iwas hearing this version. Yes this great Eighties-sound.
My brother had the original 7" version played at 33 rpm...only new order would do that!
Here it is also... my friend gave me that when I turned 23y.

This doesn’t exist without the pulsing sequencer’s on “I Feel Love”, (1977) by Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder.
Esta canción es grandiosa
The big difference is the texture of his voice.
I love this version a lot, particularly the flourishes right at the beginning (at 0:07 and 0:15). Does anyone know what they are? Guitar? Synthesiser/keyboard? Ocarina?
sounds like guitar + delay
with the delay itself having more effects applied to it
Amo!!
Fuckin EPIC Tune!!!!!!
LOVE
LYRICS:
A heaven, a gateway, a hope
Just like a feeling I need, it's no joke
And though it hurts me to treat you this way
Betrayed by words I've never heard, too hard to say
Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home

Ooooo
Ooooo
Each way I turn I know I'll always try
To break this circle that's been placed around me
From time to time I find I've lost some need
It was urgent to myself, I do believe
Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Oh, you've got green eyes
Oh, you've got blue eyes
Oh, you've got grey eyes
Oo, you've got green eyes
Oh, you've got blue eyes
You've got grey eyes
And I've never seen anyone quite like you before
No, I've never met anyone quite like you before
Bolts from above hurt the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Bolts from above hurt the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Bolts from above hurt the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Bolts from above hurt the people down below
People in this world, we have no place to go
Oh, it's the last time, oh, it's the last time
Oh, it's the last time, oh, it's the last time
Oh, it's the last time
Oh, I've never met anyone quite like you before
Oh, no, I've never met anyone quite like you before
Nice.
Ps. I could listen to the sequencers run by themselves for hours.

This version reminds me a lot of Poesie Noire's Pity for the Self
i had 7 inch and 12 inch. both stolen. That's my definition of sin
Yeah no the 12” version in 1982 will always be the classic
