    This is an El Niño year, which it probably why you haven't had frost yet.
    Your carrot cake looked delicious! Have you thought about making morning glory muffins? You might like them too! I've been procrastinating baking after my zucchini bread marathon 😅.
    Also, my son got very excited to see your cat! Thank you for including her!
    And congratulations on your cool vest find! Have fun with it!

    I like the simple design of the compost area. Sometime I see examples that look difficult to access and are too complicated. I think I'll try to mimic that.

    A lady this morning on a show showed how important it is to sanitize your pruner after use. She used 10 parts water to 1 part bleach. After cutting up your tomato plants it would be good to do that. Lorraine

    • @kichigai548
      @kichigai548 11 месяцев назад

      Best thing to use is 3% hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle that you can get at CVS or any general store. I’d use bleach and as an alternative. Clean your pruners before every plant you prune as to not cross contaminate any possible fungus or diseases

    This video is exactly what I needed. I want to start composting (first yr gardening) So you just did a layer of plant matter then leaves and dirt? Do you add scraps too?
    Also I want to plant garlic for the first time. I know you said you were going to buy bags of compost for your garlic bed. Do you add anything else to amend the soil before planting? Fertilizers? I was going to plant the last weekend in oct. So you want to get it in the ground before the first frost? Or wait til first frost? Sorry i know this is a lot of questions. Thank you for the video.

    • @itsbreellis
      @itsbreellis  11 месяцев назад +1

      Ive been pretty hands off with my composting and its always worked. Dont over think it but yes. I do scraps all the time! Those would act as your "greens- aka anything alive" Your browns would be dead plants, tree leaves, card board etc. As long as you layer the 2 and mix every so ofter you should be good to go! Theres a lot more science behind everything so defiantly look into some stuff before getting started! As far as garlic goes I test my soil on occasion. I will put compost down and some worm castings maybe some other amendments but I typically start adding more once we get into next years growing season such as blood meal and bone meal. Planting is up to you, I try to wait until after our first frost because we always warm back up. But I may be planting before hand still havnt fully made up my mind. The beauty of gardening lol Hope that helps!

      I did thank you!! and yes I had all isa and golden comets. My older ladies went to our friends to have 5 acres and all their chickens have access to free range fully. I needed to break up my girls, they wouldn't get along no matter what I tired for the last 6 months. The update from our friends is they have been doing great! I unfortunately can only have up to 12 in my city, so trying to break up my flock would have been tough with my current space. I addressed it in one video but I should probably touch on it again. I cant wait to have more space to keep older hens with me/ allow them more space so issues like that don't become a problem. Until then its nice to have friends who will gladly take them as they get older.

      Some people use flat hair irons, or even regular clothes irons with a wooden block underneath to seal mylar. Just make sure it melts enough to make a proper seal, but that impulse seal probably works faster and is easier to use.

      That's so wonderful that you had a friend willing to take them who can send you updates! Sounds like a dreamy place for your chickens. Here in wichita I had to give away three roosters (all were sexed as hens) and I cried each time not knowing what would become of them lol. It's tough. I also hope to have lots of land someday so I can keep all my chickens and they can free range on acres and acres as well.
